I think it's just me. But one of my favorite things in the GTA series is when we use tools to do criminal activities in missions I think we need more of this. The cool factor comes from well we aren't shooting at someone or driving away we're interacting with items and the environment at least that's what makes it interesting for me anyway. The main problem is trying to make it not feel boring.

Take a look at the opening scene of Thief

All that he's doing is using a drill to open up the safe. That would make a great side activity in free roam.

We used a lot of tools in V's missions and heist setups but they felt a bit too over the top. I think RDR2 did the best job at this like when you had to run the wire when you were planting a lot of Dynamite.

I'd like to use more tools in missions and in free roam. Like using a crowbar to steal cars.

I don't want things that just lengthen the size of gameplay with no fun or meaning. As much as I loved RDR2 one of my criticisms towards it was some of the long mission scripted animations like running the wire. But I would welcome anything that adds to the gameplay and is fun. I liked the hacking minigames in V. They were pretty small but fun.

I would like to have a lockpick with enjoyable minigames during Burglary missions. If you mess up you break it=FAILED

Or small minigames for heists. But minigames should be unique and used properly without being repetitive(A bad example is Mafia III)

I thought this thread was going to be more characters like CJ and Trevor when I saw the thread title. Well that's a relief.

CTW had some pretty good minigames for breaking into cars I would like to see adapted like using a screwdriver to turn on the ignition for example.

But would you really want to do that whenever you steal a car!!!???

If I remember in CTW you didn't need to do it every time.

I'd just be fine with an animation of the protagonist taking out a crowbar if he has one in his inventory and jacking the car that way. No minigame or anything just an animation.

Yes, seeing how personal vehicles are a thing.

Be cool to have more tools when we steal cars. Like screwdriver, slims and more. Be cool if we could steal the tires, rims and leave the remaining car on bricks example. Like the tread maker say it would be awesome if we can interact more.

I tend to like the "tool missions". They can help mix things up and keep the game feeling fresh. My only problem with them is that they often end up feeling like tutorial missions for a gameplay mechanic you're never able to use again.

Well, I can't reply to a topic like this without mentioning Watch_Dogs. In that game you use your phone to literally interact with the entire environment. Traffic lights, security systems, stealing cars etc.

It would be cool to see the hacking part for security systems in GTA VI. Perhaps use a phone app to unlock newer cars, while you need to use a screwdriver (etc.) for older cars.
Mafia 3 gave us the option to break into cars, break doors with a crowbar or take medicine from a medicine cabinet.

This would be my list for (a personal) best experience:

- Use phone app to hack (into) security systems

- Use shears to cut fences / cut electricity

- Use phone to unlock newer cars

- Use phone for Spotify with earphones

- Use phone for navigation, perhaps instead of minimap?

- Screwdriver / lock pick / other tool to unlock older cars

- Break doors with crowbar (loud)

- Pick locks with lock pick, including safes (silent)

- Take medicines/adrenaline from medicine cabinet

- Use trunk of car to store larger weapons (assault rifles, rocket launchers etc.)

- Use trunk of car to hide a body

- Use closets and other larger locations to hide bodies

- Loot items from dead/unconscious npc's

- For f*ck sake, make weapons and tools shown on our characters.
- Give us the option to take people hostage and/or threaten them

- Give us the option to stop people from calling the law enforcement

- Need gas or petrol for your car. Would especially be cool for chases, since you don't know if a car is full or not.

- Make police go to a crime scene after the crime (as seen in Mafia II), was awesome to see police actually trying to ID the person you just blew to bits...

I like those features, it would definitely give the game some much needed immersion, without becoming much too difficult. By limiting the player to a certain amount of weaponry, missions and free roam will need much more strategy.

It depends if the next GTA is modern day or not. Hacking is interesting and I also love Watch Dogs but I can't see GTA doing it.

I wouldn't mind something like an ATM skimmer though.

I'm disappointed that we couldn't use a lighter in GTA V. I hope they didn't abandon that idea and add it in the next game.

Yes, all the way for the skimmer. Plant it, watch, retrieve.

I don't know RDR. Indeed, the chainsaw was exponential. I remember chopping up cars :)

I dont think i'd like more tools for the base functionality of stealing cars but it'd be cool if the half dozen minigames that online has were available in freeroam? you'd probably have to make all the locks you can get through a design that communicates that they can be picked/hacked, but it'd be neat

Hardware stores should return like Vice city. We should be able to buy drills, chainsaws, nailguns.

I'd like to see bolt cutters.

For those hard to reach places. Say a fence you can't climb over or a lock. Take out your bolt cutters and cut them. Would be helpful if burglaries ever come back.

This is one of those things that doesn't actually enhance gameplay. One out of maybe a few hundred chases might be affected assuming rockstar tuned it to not constantly run out, and every other encounter with it in the game will be "Ugh, I gotta fill up my car again". And sure, the first time you see it, it might genuinely be cool. But then you have to do it again, and again, and again, because it would be a mechanic in the free roam, so you'll keep running into it. Eventually, everyone playing will be absolutely sick of whatever animation there is for getting gas. It's like those scenes in birdemic where you see the guy slowly pulling into traffic over and over again. Sure, it might add additional realism and maybe even immersion, but at a high cost to the overall experience. I don't see how having to stop for gas improves the game when you're not in a chase, and even with chases people are more likely to be frustrated than excited because the mechanic randomly screwed them over. Like, I want to be stopped because the police genuinely outsmarted or overpowered me, not because the RNG gas tank decided to screw me over. This would suck a lot of the fun out of GTA.
