I can't think of why his voice would even be in the game, unless they plan on releasing RDR1 as DLC. I hope thats the case.

Maybe there will be a dlc with jack after the events of red dead 1. I really hope not.

Yeah, and that glitch also just happens to have you referring to a man as "ma'am" and said man responding with the voice of a woman. Not to mention the wood and door creeks not matching up at the right times. Or the acoustics of the woman's voice not matching the acoustics of the train station. Yeah nah. Fake.

I don't think so. Somebody else posted XBox DVR clips, several of them, showing off the same glitch.  It seems very likely that 1) this is real, and 2) when it gets into this state, the audio starts having all kinds of problems - referencing files from the wrong directory or something - so that John sounds like Jack, and NPCs are saying the wrong things as well, possibly.  (I also don't see why someone would go to the trouble to create a fake like this and intentionally replace a male NPC's dialogue with female audio. That would be... a weird thing to do.)

Here are the other clips, from a different player on a different platform:

https://xboxdvr.com/gamer/metallicpanda87/video/65050790

https://xboxdvr.com/gamer/metallicpanda87/video/65045206

https://xboxdvr.com/gamer/metallicpanda87/video/65043098

Also noteworthy - in at least one of the above clips, dude has subtitles on, and these recordings of Jack a) have paired subtitles, and b) don't match anything I can remember John saying, at least not word for word.

So I think this is real.  I see three possibilities of what this is:

1. Some kind of cut content (but what kind? Would be really weird if adult Jack somehow featured in the epilogue and then they removed it; we all know where the epilogue ends and Jack is not a playable adult (or an adult, period) at that time)

2. RDR1 remake DLC.  If so, there's got to be some other stuff buried in the code and waiting to be found.

3. Other DLC (like post-RDR1 DLC) where you play as Jack? This seems bizarre to me, and about the least likely option.

Another remote 4th possibility: that isn't Jack's voice.  I don't know whose voice it is or why it's coming out of the main character though.  And it sure sounds like Jack - reference:

It does sound like it could be intended as Jack, but it's not same voice actor, methinks. I doubt Rockstar would go through the trouble of a remake at that level, when all they really have to do is remaster it for the current consoles. Even so, I'm sure they have the original master recordings for Jack lying around somewhere, so they don't need to hire a whole new crew of VAs for a remaster.

If they intended to do a full RDR1 remake (not just remaster) in the style of RDR2, they probably would need to record a bunch of new audio - which might mean recasting certain roles and replacing ALL the audio for them, perhaps.  We know with John they've got the same guy, so presumably they could use all of what they've already got and just add more (in fact they already did a lot of additions for RDR2, obviously).  With Jack... well he would need to be able to interact with NPCs to the same extent that Arthur and John do, so that would mean a lot of new audio required.

I'm not sure if this is a different voice actor or not, TBH.  Would need to listen to both clips a few more times.  Even if it's the same guy, it could be that doing the recordings many years apart has resulted in something slightly different.  But it definitely at least sounds like someone doing Jack.

Only two people out of millions posted in that one Reddit thread.  It's quite possible that others have run into it and just thought "Huh, that was weird," without understanding what it even was - or maybe not even noticed it was happening because they didn't interact with NPCs.  We also don't seem to have the slightest clue what causes it, if it is a glitch; it could be really weird and hard to reproduce.

I'm not totally decided but several things about this make me think it's real.  If it's a hoax, it's an incredibly weird one.

My underlying point was moreso the money. It would be a total sunk cost to recast for a remake because it simply wouldn't make the profit they'd ve looking for. At that level of production, it might even put them upsidedown.

The reddit post also includes the same scene recorded on cellphone, so it's not a hoax or voice-over.   Definitely an audio glitch, and the female voice for the male NPC reinforces that.   But I see no reason to believe the voice we're hearing is Jack Marston.   The only thing Tongue-Tied John says is "mornin', pardner" and "ma'am."   Those greets could come from any NPC....a very vague resemblance to Jack Marston is pure coincidence, in a world full of characters with very similar Western accents and dialogue.

It's a funny glitch, but I don't think this has anything to do with Jack Marston at all.  Just a random mix-up in random dialogue from random NPCs.

I doubt it would be as intensive as that- I think only Jack would need more audio lines on top of his existing ones- the other characters can reuse their existing uncompressed audio files (on top of some trickery as preventing said characters from appearing in free-roam), and some of the generic NPC voices can be pulled from RDRII.

So you didn't watch the other clips I linked to? He also says: "Uh... excuse you" (subtitled) when an NPC won't get out of the way and "Aw c'mon" (when his horse won't come - that's significant because it's a bit of dialogue that only a playable character would have).

And it sounds a lot like Jack, or someone doing a passable impersonation.  I'm open to the possibility that it's not Jack, but it sure sounds like him, and that's sure an odd coincidence given that Jack is the only playable character in either game with a voice that sounds anything like that.  If it's random NPC dialogue, that's strange in a different way - why would they link NPC greetings up to button prompts?  (Maybe as placeholder dialogue, I guess.)

I don't think it would be as intensive as that for the most part, either.  Jack and John would be the two that would need the most new recorded dialogue, as the two playable characters.  We know John's new dialogue could just be added to the old without much incongruity.  If for some reason they couldn't get adult Jack's same actor back, they'd have to recast for at least the new dialogue, and probably would just get him to re-record what little dialogue adult Jack had anyway.

Most RDR NPCs that exist in missions only would recycle their dialogue 100%.  Many random NPCs in the world would probably be re-recorded with new actors, since the new dialogue system is deeper than the old one.  That's a fair bit of time in the studio, but not much money spent - those folks get paid a flat (and not very high) fee to record reams of dialogue in a few days, often recording multiple characters apiece.

Just noticed something - in that clip there is a woman laying on the bench just behind the man it appears he is talking to.  I think he actually focused on her and she is replying, not the man with the mustache (whose mouth doesn't move).

I just went around greeting people as Jack in RDR1, and I can't match anything from that game to the lines said in RDR2 from the clips shown. That's new voice acting. It's just a matter of whether it's real. It could be someone doing a voice-over.

Yeah, Jack's original VA (Josh Blaylock) was 20 in 2010- he would be 28 today if he returned to RDRII- either his voice has changed as he's grown older, or they've tried finding someone who sounds as close as possible.

I wonder if the credits might say anything about possible VA involvement?

Seems identical to Jack's voice to me.

Like some have theorized I think they are gonna do a RDR1 expansion with the PC release. This only furthers my belief that that will happen.

Look at the number of times they can double and triple-dip with RDRII:

You are here now: RDR II release on XBone and PS4- $60 bucks

TBD: RDR II release on PC- $60 bucks

RDR I remake on PC, XBone and PS4 - $50-60 bucks

RDR I + RDRII Enhanced Edition on XBoneTwo and PS5 - $60 bucks

And that's not counting all the versions of the editions, DLC they might release, or even whatever new shiny thing of the month they put in RDO. It'll be silly to focus all their attention on RDO, IMO.

Correction: And a release on Nintendo Switch ("optimized" for perfomance and probably missing New Austin lol). We're moving beyond double dips and triple dips and into seven-layer taco dip territory.

If they were going to do a RDR1 remaster within the RDR 2 engine, where we would eventually play as Jack, then they would need to record new "Greet" and "Antagonize" dialogue for Jack, and this very well could be that.

I also find this interesting; say the PC version does have a RDR 1 remaster, which continues after the RDR 2 Epilogue, then perhaps some of those Stranger missions you can start as Arthur, but finish with John, could perhaps also be finished with Jack, too. They need new dialogue for that, too. I can't wait for us to get access to the game files.

It could be though that the time jump between RDR1 and 2 makes RDR2 stranger missions unavailable. It could also be that RDR1 is accessed via a separate story mode in the main menu, sort of like with DLCs.

There's plenty of ways to avoid needing new dialogue (by limiting access to characters), and IMO dialogue is probably the least of their concerns if they're doing a remake- remaking character models, finishing Mexico/updating New Austin and creating the actual missions would probably be the bulk of their work.

RDR2 was developed on top of RDR, it's easy to imagine there's stray pieces of the previous game used as placeholder or whatever which were not completely cleaned out before release.

Someone verified that those lines of dialogue aren't actually from RDR1. They also have accompanying subtitles in some videos showcasing the glitch, which makes it unlikely that they're all just leftovers.

There was another person on Reddit that suggested the glitched voice actually belonged to someone at the poker table in Saint Denis. A sound-alike NPC.

Either outcome is possible.

If you pay close attention, you'll see that there's a lady sitting behind that old guy. The camera is actually focused on her, so he's talking to her.

It's real fellers. Prepare for epic WW1 DLC prologue mission with Jack as protagonist (I hope).
