If it doesn't work I think there is currently a free saddle, if you're on PS4, put that on your 2nd horse, you'll definitely have the option to swap them over. LooseCanon
My first horse was a white Arabian, it died and I was given a scrawny nag so I thought I’m not having that so I bought a second white Arabian. omg I forgot how bad they are at the start, throws me off if a slight breeze hits us, runs away because I’m trying to put a croc skin on it for a mission..... Also, yes, you can only discard horses, I assume that R* wanted to prevent horse duping and didn't consider pike and cougar dupes lol. I'm sure each horse has its own temperament as others swear by the turkoman I've had the most trusty companion with the Turkoman in story mode. Arthur's Turkoman didn't bother with any threats and never flinched for a second at all. I haven't had the chance to ride one in Online yet, since I lack the ranks to get it, but I sure hope it's the same or nearing it almost perfectly. But, I'm afraid it won't be. Not only by reading some of the comments on the Online Turkoman, but also from experience with other Online horses. My Thoroughbred is a complete idiot and probably more of an inbred than a thoroughbred, which wasn't the case in story mode. It gallops off of high cliffs as if there is an alternate universe where horses can fly at the other end of it, plummeting both itself and my character to an untimely and unpleasant death. It should have a "YOLO" brand on its ass. I renamed it "Urgh" recently. I also have a black American Standardbred in my stables. This one is of the "Dude, where's my Horse?" kind. Bonded level 4, it rides fine, but when you dismount to skin an animal it runs off to Limbo. Whistling it will return it fast, but it's annoying and sadly, also the only one all black and good size. I'm now using a Piebald Tobiano Hungarian Halfbred. It can't be bothered with wolves, alligators or snakes at all and has decent stamina and speed and I like it very much, though would prefer it to be all black. Can't have it all, I guess Edited June 6, 2019 by Leftover Pizza Master Tyrus and -LN-
Van_Hellsing
With the Nacogdoches saddle and high end stirrups, no horse that I own will run out of stamina. The top speed may vary. South of Saint Denis there is a bridge with gators on both sides. I use this location to test the courage of my horses. The gifted Perlino horse is the most courageous, although it will buckle you off on the sight of a puma. It didn't throw me off when faced with a pack of wolves. The pinkish skin gets dirty really quick. It is followed by the MFT. The Turkoman is a coward. Once nervous it will remain so, until you bring it to a stable. The gifted Arabic will run off to the next state if there's an enemy on the horizon. Edited June 6, 2019 by Van_Hellsing Leftover Pizza

Lol, your post made me laugh, but I can totally relate; my main horse is the Black Chestnut Thoroughbred from the Ultimate Edition. It's as big as a tank and fast as f*ck, but it's afraid of its own shadow and never seems to come when I whistle and need it most. I love the thing, but my god, it certainly has a mind of its own; like yours, it will run off cliffs, straight into trees or random objects, and it won't stand still for a moment if I'm on its back and trying to take down a flock of egrets or spoonbills. If it sees an alligator a few metres away; forget about it, I'm instantly thrown off and left in the mud for dead. The same situation applies with most snakes and it's especially worse when wolves, cougars, or bears are in the equation. I have all of the free horses; the Arabian and the latest one they offered are my other two. I've yet to actually buy a horse! What would you all recommend? I'd like something about as fast as the Thoroughbred, but perhaps a little more calm and courageous. Leftover Pizza

yeezy203
I'll keep saying it. Tiger Striped Bay Mustang is the most balanced horse in the game when you factor in courage. Probably my favorite horse both in SP and online. Calm temperament, courageous, smart, strong. Just not the best acceleration. Stamina for days though it will never get tired travelling long distances. I've been using it online but now I'm bored and don't know which else to get. I really like Turkomans but they are so whiney. Stopped using Arabians for the obvious complaints. Foxtrotter was nice, but I feel like everyone has them its like the Bugatti in GTA. I like Thoroughbreds (thought of getting the brindle) but they are so stupid. I always run into trees and stuff. I'll just stick with mustang but I hope they give us a new horse breed or coat soon. I still believe that horse temperaments can be random based on owning multiple horses of the same breeds, but can't recommend the Amber MFT highly enough. It's never let me down, it's fast as hell and can run for days, even without a Nacogdoches saddle, but with one you can pretty much forget about using L3 on all but the longest sprints. It'll still buck you, but it'll be your mistake or blind misfortune when it does, as long as you don't let a predator get behind you you're safe most of the time. It's also my quietest horse by far. Leftover Pizza
If only they'd allow us to pick a color for the horse, instead of the standard ones they have now. I love to have all black horses for my character, but don't want it to be a race horse. The Hungarian Halfbred works fine for me now (due to level brackets and all), but it would be much more majestic full black (matter of opinion, of course, but my opinion happens to be just that). Also, the size of the horse is a thing to me. It needs to be taller than the Arabian pony, but not as bulky as an Ardennes. Size wise, Thoroughbreds, American Standardbreds are exactly the size bracket I like the horse to be in. To me a horse is 70% cosmetics and 30% performance. -LN-
Looks like I may try the Fox Trotter next; thank you for the feedback and suggestions. If temperament is indeed random, with my luck I'll end up with the cowardly Fox Trotter. My other question is this: let's say that I discard one of my free horses; will that nullify my option of ever obtaining it again? I'd hate to give up something and never have it available as an option again, but at the same time, a fourth stable is rather expensive; not to mention the cost of the horse itself! Thanks!
