Let's talk horses

I’m patiently waiting to purchase a second horse. Sick and tired of my free red chestnut Arabian but I’m still only lvl 45ish after taking basically the last 9 months off cause of how dead the game was.

I'm about seven pages behind on this, but I'm also playing, so I'm just gonna skip ahead and ask.

What's the top 3 most fearless horses?

Got a second account going and she's an avid hunter, but still riding that dingus horse you get in mission one.

Speed is not an issue for me, but I run into a lot of carnivores for some reason, so...

I'm using each horse in a daily rotation now. Every time I pick another horse it seems to work better than before. Use a horse for several days and I'll start noticing differences. 4 days ago my Criollo was skittish as hell. Today it was performing rock solid again. Same with my Amber MFT. A week ago it performed really bad. Yesterday it was rock solid again.

Tomorrow I'll bring out the all black American Standard Breed again. Then it's the Appaloosa's turn, MFT, Criollo. I have 4 horses now. All have the Nacogdoches, except for the MFT, who uses the Collectors saddle.

Considering the thread title is 'let's talk horses' I am disappointed none of you are neighing or whinnying.

One thing I really like about RDR2 Online over RDR1 Online is the horse variety. In the first game every single player had the same horse. It was lame lol. Now there are so many options, it’s not uncommon for players to ask each other which horse they are using.

Which horse does everyone think is the most common in Online Free Roam?

Let me rephrase the question. Is it displayed anywhere in game which horses are more fearless?

I've never seen a stat indicator for horse courage, but I'd assume the most fearless ones would be in the War category.

Before I sent him off to the Dead Jimmy Glue factory for stable space, my Andalusian was the least skittish of the pair.

Bet he looked mighty courageous going on the conveyor belt. ;o)

There is no stat advertised, but the catalogue does sometimes make mention of the temperment.

I would rather see a stat though. 1/5, 3/5 etc

I don't think they are very stable in temperament. The one day they can step on a snake with no fuzz, the next day the same horse runs a mile from a gator at 50 yards distance from it.

They are, in fact, quite human tempered :D

The mane problem is that we get saddled up with our horses' temperament changing. But hay, one day they don't foal around, the next day they can be real nigh-mares, buck you off and you have to giddyup again.

I'm just gonna horse around some with different makes and models, I guess.

What's the current return policy on legitimately purchesed horses?

Kinda sorta makes sense though. There's probably not alot of coin in a second hand horse. "Belonged to a little old lady who had is ran over by a train and revived only three time. Minor scuff marks on the left rear panel."

actually, it doesn't make sense. There were liveries back in that day, where you could pick up a horse, or stable your own. Not everyone owned a horse, but would need one from time to time. Travellers could also trade in their horse for a 'fresh' one to continue their travels.

I have a top tier Appaloosa, 18 gold bars worth. It would be weird not to get anything back for it when it becomes obsolete for some reason. It's a gold bar only purchase, so getting something in return is reasonable.

This is quite an interesting theory. Do you own the hunting wagon? Because I’d imagine calling that in and then dismissing it might serve the same function without having to rotate your horses.

My MFT has seemed particularly fearless of late, regularly trampling wolves to death in the legendary without ever bucking me, and between your theory and the hunting wagon I could see it making sense.

It makes as much sense as selling a second hand car.

My hungarian halfbred is scared of his own shadow since the update. It makes me really sad. I got bucked once before this update. I could ride straight over gators if I wanted to, not that I did. Now I can't even cross the ridiculous small bridges in Lemoyne without getting bucked off from gators that are in the damn water, and I'm not exaggerating. Sorely disappointed.

It also discourages me from getting another, more expensive horse. In fact, I'm considering getting another Kentucky Saddler and letting my halfbred retire to the stables. I was prepared to drop over 50 gold on horses, I had 3 in mind and was looking forward to all 3. Posted about it earlier. Now it's going to be $50. Good marketing Rockstar.

If there was indeed a nerf to the 'base' horses, it's only going to make me spend less on horses. Screw your ponzi scheme of trying to get people to buy the newest and greatest horse, I feel like that's exactly what's happening. I wish people never learned the word meta. Ruins games.

Old post but my Thoroughbread which I've mained since level 20 is ballsy and affordable.

I was just looking to make a joke. In my defense though, RDO horses usually need more than a little freshening up.

If I turn in mangled carcasses I get a few cents, I agree there should be some compensation for a slightly mangled horse

My Criollo has always been, by far, the best and calmest horse I ever had. It's the only one I own now.

I have a friend who has a Criollo that wasn't as calm but they were always riding around full speed which causes the horse to get a bit temperamental . I rarely go over a trot. Other than that I can't explain why her horse is more skittish than mine.

My Turk has the best temperament, followed by Criollo.

I have a Breton.... he is a massive pussy. He bucked me three times around wolves....wolves.... not even my gorram Arabian bucked me around wolves!!

Also, he is so friggin huge, he slams into every second rock, tree, twig, signpost and the smallest dip in the terrain can topple him and send me flying.

Also as he is so friggin massive, 3 shotgun blasts and he'll die because he's such a massive and easy target to hit.

Probably the WORST horse I've ever had and it's been labelled as the Bounty Hunters best option..... nooooo.... my Criollo was better and my Turk is better than that.

just bought the hunting wagon an hour ago, but haven't tested it yet. Each of my horses have been great at moments and bad on others. Now I switch them around, I do feel they don't get that bad anymore, like they do well with time off.

My white Arabian today.

Grizzly attack. She's fine, didn't even whinny.

2 separate incidents with wolves, no issue, didn't even make a fuss...

Hmmm, and my white Arabian has been stabled for months. Maybe using a horse for too long trashes the temperment.

Something im looking into as well, I have 6 horses and use them all everyday but looking into giving them a little longer rest as my (was very skittish early on) Turk has shown quite a change after being stabled for a long time He also get skittish at the first sign of needing feeding which the others dont

All subjective of course

I settled on a grey Kladruber. Though anything would have been an upgrade from the Kentucky Saddler anyway.

Pleasantly surprised though. The only time he gave me any trouble was when I managed to get caught between two grizzly bears up in Big Valley.

I can forgive getting a tad nervous in that situation.

When my main horse A dies and I whistle, horse B comes in. It's listed before horse C in the stables. But I'd rather see horse C come when A is dead, but I can't find a way to change their order. Is it possible to do somehow?
