So I'm thinking of buying a new horse. Right now I have the red Arabian, and I was considering the White Arabian or the Missouri Fox Trotter. Which one should I go for?

Can only recommend what I own, MFT for the win. Even with a female character, the Arabian looks like a pony.

Trotter is by far the best but it’s your choice not ours

I'm not entirely sure about the courage stat. Is it really a noticeable difference once you reach level 4 bonding? That's what's putting me off about the white Arabian.

Got myself the Nacogdoches saddle and safety stirrups (don't like the bucket ones) - kinda sad there wasn't an all black or brown one. But the black and red fits Jackdaws style.

The stamina though!! Holy Moses. I've sprinted all over without even a dip in stamina.

Tbh I tried it and felt it was too clutchy compared to my arabians. However it‘s really nothing that should be of a very big concern.

most horses are pretty useful and you will do well with any one you like.

i‘ve had a lot of horses and if you own a good saddle (the new one is the best in terms of stamina), it doesn‘t really matter which of the ones with high speed you choose. If you‘re into gunfights on horse you mighz think about getting one with higher health like arabian, mft, turkoman. The speed difference isn‘t noticable. (However the arabian is more agile in narrow terrain)

if you only need it for hunting or roaming around you might as well pick a thoroughbred e.g, which has the same stats as the MFT.

I‘ve found myself only using my black spotted appaloosa lately. It does just as well as the others.

just buy the one which you like most.

Well this is annoying. So I bought the white Arabian after all, got it to level 2 bonding, switched sessions and now its back to level 1 bonding! What's worse is that any mission that starts with a loading screen spawns scrawny nag for the mission instead of my white Arabian.

Bring up the quick menu and go to stables and make sure your story missions are set to use your Arabian.

As for the bonding yea it's still a bit buggy.

Yeah I made sure of that the moment I bought the horse. Hopefully its not a persistent bug...

Don’t go by the shown stats it’s the hidden stats that make it the best it’s the temperament of the horse pretty much similar for Turk as well there both the best horse

Yeah already bought the white Arabian after all. For the time I bond with it, it will spook pretty easy, but if its like my red Arabian by level 4, then I shouldn't have any problems handling the skittishness.

I sadly opted for the blue/black version and the only way to change that decision is to buy the saddle again. 512 bucks or 21 gold bars to get satisfaction about a colour....., it should be customisable, like mains and tails. Bags can be changed to what you've purchased previously. Why not saddles? :(

I guess this is where money glitches come in handy... ;)

I disagree. Worse even, Rockstar won't make an effort to fix things like this at all, since many glitched money and can buy their way out. Those who play fair won't see a fix anytime soon.

So, I caved in and bought me an Amber MFT for my freeroam activities, because of the positive comments of people on these forums.

What an absolute disaster of a horse I've got for the $950 spent. It runs into trees while there is room for 8 horses to pass it. Used it all evening, got flung off at least 10 times, because the damn idiot horse ran into trees and rocks. Maybe it's because it's not bonded 4/4 yet, but even at 3/4 bonding, it is apparently as blind as my neighbour's front door.

The stats of the horse are good and it somewhat fits a native American look, but it lacks eyesight. "Blind as a horse" = explained.

I feed it all the time and keep it clean too. It loves me, but it also loves running into trees.

Every time it gets up after smashing into one, I swear I can see that "Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! That was FUN!" face on him.

From time to time, yes, but I mainly keep it on to steer the horse but not pushing it forwards. I have 4 horses and only 2 give me real trouble. The Thoroughbred runs off cliffs like they aren't there and the Amber MFT runs into trees like it's the gateway to platform 9 3/4. I've cursed my American Standardbred on several occasions too, but it is performing great since I bought a Nagocdoches for it. I was hoping for an even better performing horse with the Amber MFT, but so far I'm not lucky. Maybe it will improve at 4/4 bonding. Otherwise, I've thrown away a good bunch of cash. I love the turbocharged accelerating of the horse, but scraping myself off a tree trunk is far less fun.

Watch that 4th level of bonding there is a bug in it when you just reach it and go thru a cut scene the horse gets thrown back to level 3, can happen a few times before horse stays level 4 but it will after a free times.

Will keep that in mind, although I think it will bond in the normal open world, with no cutscenes present, unless the skinning one counts as such. I've had more often with other horses that bonding lvl4 alerts occured several times for the same horse. Not a biggy, as long as it will perform as it should. I'll give it a shot after work.

Should be ok with skinning it’s mainly strangers cut scenes and when you log off and back on next day, but don’t worry not everyone gets affected and it’s easily cured by just riding

You only need to shoo it away from where you are for 20 seconds, But that’s fixed now or at least I’ve not seen it since last update drop

Thought I’d post my thoughts on the topic. By way of background, I’m level 159, UE owner who owns 5 fully bonded horses and uses the Nacogdoches saddle :

Black Arabian, M, (Shadow Moon)

amber Missouri Fox Trotter, M, (Mr. Wednesday)

Reverse Dapple Roan Nakota,F, (Siouxnami)

White Arabian, F, (Hippolyta)

Chestnut Thoroughbred, F, (UE Horse)(Shadowmare)

The Arabians have 9 speed and acceleration with the “Naco” saddle and the others all have 10 speed and 8 acceleration similarly equipped. Then there’s health and stamina, higher for the Arabians and Trotter, tsomewhat less so for the other two.

I’ve ridden and raced (and won and placed) with all of these horses pretty extensively and could be happy with anyone of them as my only horse if needed. I have no experience with the turkoman as it’s speed and acceleration stats are a bit low for my taste, so I can’t speak to it. I’m going to give my take on speed, courage, acceleration and handling. Hopefully it provides some insight to any who have questions about these. Also, to be clear, I’ve not done any time comparisons or other “scientific” studies, I have no data. Everything that follows is just my opinion after spending many hours doing just about everything imaginable in game on each mount.

When it comes to top speed, I’ve not seen a whole lot of difference between the 5 above with the Naco saddle. I’ve heard that things have been “normalized” or essentially that  stats have been damped down(at least in the high end horses) so that the differences between breeds is less noticeable. Again, I can’t speak to how other horses act or perform, these are the only ones I’ve used. What I can say is that in spending hours running around  with posse members with those less expensive horses, I’m often not as far ahead as is I’d have expected to be. Of course, terrain, skill and other factors could contribute to this in any given sprint from A to B, but all in all, it seems like top speed is not a big factor if comparing these five.

As for acceleration, I feel that matters. In my experience, there is a noticeable difference between the Arabians and the others. Maybe it’s placebo, but it just seems that when I use an Arabian for a while and switch to a non Arabian, in notice a difference when hop on and haul ass away. It feels a little sluggish. And not the, “I’ve been stable too long and my core is depleted sluggish”; even when cores are full, it feels like the non Arabians are step behind. This becomes important because we don’t spend a lot of time running in a straight line. My understanding is that even slight inputs on the left joystick will slow a horse requiring it to accelerate if any speed is lost. Thus, i tend to value acceleration over speed.

For those who play GTA, think about the Akuma vs the Batti. The batti has better speed but I almost always had better lap times in races on an akuma because a) it’s able to get back up to speed after a turn and b) the batti never has time or space to bring its top speed advantage to bear on any one section of track.

When it comes to courage, the Trotter clearly has the edge. When wolves attack, he doesn’t really care until all three get right under him and the maybe he bolts, but doesn’t throw me. Still it’s not like the other 4 bolt at the first sign of trouble, only if it gets to close, but they’ll also drop you if you wait too long. So while it might get a little dicey riding through Lagras on those 4, i have to be a little more aware and maybe use a little more Eagle eye keep space between you and the gators, it’s not like it’s impossible.

As for handling, I’m not really even sure what that means, but here’s my take. I feel like the Arabians, with elite handling, feel a little more responsive at times to my inputs, feel like they turn tighter and and navigate rocky ledges better than others and jump over obstacles more easily, with the race handling thoroughbred and nakota performing a little less so and the standard handling Fox Trotter obviously being the “clumsiest” of the five. I will say that the Fox Trotter stood almost straight up on its back legs (likes a bid dog with paws on owners shoulders) with it front hooves on a rock and then jumped up on the rock, while I was riding. It was remarkable. All in all, i feel these differences are slight and may not even exist, maybe it’s in my head.  All of them have run into trees and fallen off of ledges and hills, so IMO, there’s no clear cut advantage one way or the other as with acceleration or courage.

Another thing I consider is horse height. The Arabians and Nakota are shorter than the Trotter and Thoroughbred. While in real life, this could certainly affect handling, I’d guess that’s all baked into the handling stat. But to the extent that height plays into how one sees (a target)or is seen (as a target) this could be a factor in determining utility.

As I said before, I’d be happy with any of the 5 I listed as my main horse.

If asked to pick only one to keep, I’d go with the black Arabian, though the Fox Trotter comes in a close second. For me it comes down to acceleration, size and maybe handling. The white Arabian is pretty much the same as the black one, less health and stamina, but still a great horse. Meanwhile the Nakota and thoroughbred have very similar stats and handling, but the Thoroughbred is a bigger horse. As I said, they’re all great horses as I’m sure others I’ve not mentioned are. This is just my (non-scientific) take on my horses for what it’s worth. I welcome others to offer their takes on their experience as well as what I’ve said above.
