The Outer Worlds (Obsidian)

GOD EXISTS

It looks f*cking sweet! I'm so excited. Looking foward to see more.

In The Outer Worlds, you awake from hibernation on a colonist ship that was lost in transit to Halcyon, the furthest colony from Earth located at the edge of the galaxy, only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy it. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

I haven't been this f*cking excited for a game since Doom Eternal was announced. Can't f*cking wait.

I'm surprised this is coming to PS4 since Microsoft bought out Obsidian. Maybe it's the deal with Private division.

It's definitely the best game reveal of 2018. It just looks incredible.

I hope they'll continue to support modders. Imagine the possibilities.

Bethesda are taking a big L now with Obsidian releasing this. So much for the 85+ Metacritic score and Fallout 76. They must be feeling rather silly now.

The new year looks to be great for RPGs, Cyberpunk 2077 and The Outer Worlds. Just don't hope Obsidian screws it up like with Alpha Protocol because this looks like everything I've wanted from a Bethesda-style Obsidian game and more. We all know what'll will happen if this game is the next Alpha Protocol, Obsidian will inevitably blame Microsoft for their failure like they did with Bethesda and Sega, maybe them being bought out will change that idk.

Either way I'm hopeful of this because it looks awesome and a spititual successir to one of my favourite games of all time P̶i̶l̶l̶a̶r̶s̶ ̶O̶f̶ ̶E̶t̶e̶r̶n̶i̶t̶y̶ Fallout New Vegas.

Go Obsidian! Woooo

I have high hopes for this. New Vegas was the best 3D Fallout and since then I've been eager to see Obsidian do another game in that vein. Outer Worlds looks to be that game.

It sounds really f*cking good man. I dunno how much of a budget it's been developed on (despite them being now owned by MS) so I'm expecting a little bit of jank but it sounds like it's gonna be a proper RPG.

This has been in development way before Microsoft bought Obsidian. I doubt they have much to do with it.

TODD HOWARD ON SUICIDE WATCH

This game is a mix of Tales of the Borderlands and Fallout New Vegas and I like what I'm seeing.

This is it. Bethesda can now realize that they no longer are a top studio.

I dare to say, I'm feeling Cyberpunk levels of hype for this game. FNV is my favorite RPG of all time and Obsidian seems to be confident with this project. It certainly will not be a lackluster RPG.

This game will make the Private Division brand uberpopular to gamers everywhere as sibling publishers Rockstar Games, and 2K. Greatness!

PD works with budget in the indie ranges from 5-10 million more or less. That could be a bit more for this game (i say 15+ million). They (Private Division (PD)) are sure going to rule Triple-I games.

This looks really promising. It's about time that Obsidian releases a spiritual successor to NV. Only thing that bothers me a little is that there is no third person as far as I know. Also I would like to know how freely you can explore the environment and how big is the map. But I have to say that this announcement was a nice surprise.

Sounds and looks like it'll be a great. I really like that they're honest about what the game is and isn't, it's not some full blown AAA open world RPG with a 100+ hours of content and it's good that they're getting that out there. I'm all for the 30-40 hour experience they're suggesting it is, that's a great length for a single player game IMO.

Nihilist.

Well, so the game is delayed by one year, then. Definitely won't install this Chinese spyware piece of filth to play two games (other being Metro Exodus). Bummer, because I was actually excited about Outer Worlds.

I'll wait. Or blast some Alestorm and set the black sails - and let's be honest, Epic's attempts to gain corporate monopoly over the market with these dirty exclusivity tricks will eventually backfire badly, and the most probable scenario is, pirates will re-emerge once more because of that. I'd welcome some fair competition for Steam, forcing it to improve and offer better deals to both customers and devs, but buying off exclusivity deals to force us to use Tencent spyware is not the way. PC launcher war has begun.

I'll probably end up getting it on MS Store. But I sure as sh*t won't be getting it on Epic. I loathe their aggressive exclusivity business practice and I won't be a part of it.

I play almost exclusively first-person games but I'm really starting to tire of this generic, gun-floating-under-your-nose-the-whole-time look! When will a developer come along, brave enough to buck the trend and give us something beside this stale, cliched appearance of the first-person shooter?

I've not played it yet, but the new Metro game appears to have taken a step in the right direction with the simple gesture of allowing you to lower your weapon to a less hostile position, but there's so much more could be done with the genre.

f*ck Epic. Seriously. f*ck them. Their idea of competition is "let's just buy up all the exclusives so people will HAVE to use us!". Even worse are those devs that actively promote their game on Steam... And then remove it because whoops Epic offered boatloads of money for an exclusive deal!

f*ck them. I'll pick this game up when it goes GOTY and is massively discounted at Steam. If that.

I was very excited for this game. Had it on my Steam wishlist along with CONTROL.

This.

Some games leave me feeling bad because I haven't completed them and I've put 30-60hrs in I know there's a huge amount more content left. Don't get me wrong, I love when a game had endless hours but it's rare that I fall in love with a game that much that I need to play it over 100hrs, over 50hrs even. Not saying all games should get shorter but I wouldn't mind seeing a few games unafraid to admit 30-40 hours experience is normal. It seems very achievable.

Yea I'm 100% with you on this. Sony 1st party games have made me really fall in love with that 40 hour (give or take) sweet spot, I've finished games like Spider-Man, God of War and Horizon wanting more but I think that's a good thing. Compared to say Witcher 3 which I sank something like 70 hours into and still had a significant chunk of the story left to do before I burned out, or Fallout 4 where I sank 100 hours into and was maybe half way through the story left at best before the burn out.

There are exceptions to this, like RDR2, but they're rare for me. Some games are just needlessly bloated with content these days when they just don't need to be.
