Makes me cringe everytime I see this thing about "gambling issue", I really can't see the issue if they implement gambling in the same way it works on story mode, with no gold bars involved. The 2 separated currencies it's weird and kinda makes me think it was developed for this purpose, to avoid any backlash. As some said, there's betting with real life money in GTAO; RDO wouldn't even involve real life money.

It’s 2018. The government knows what’s better for you than you do.

^^^obvious sarcasm btw.

Nope. I let my son play most any game really. Not all aspects, like the strip clubs in GTA, but racing and shooting cops, absolutely.

Don't need the governing bodies telling me what to do. I choose my kids limits, simple as that. Same with movies. No 50 shades, but Terminator/Robocop etc. Certainly.

Too many over 18's in game that my son would embarrass with his respectful behaviour too, lol.

Exactly. It’s the parents job to be the parent, not the government and not society (our kids would really be screwed if it were).

My 5 year old plays roblox, and I’ve let her drive around in gta for the hell of it. I’d never let her actually free roam gta until she’s older, but red dead I don’t mind. It isn’t any more shooting than she sees on a regular tv station. It’s our job to teach reality from fictional and separate the differences.

Absolutely no mic or headphones tho lol. If you wanna look at what society has become listen to a game chat for 5 minutes. Yikes.

This is the gambling thread. The dickhead thread is down a couple 😉

But yes I agree with that.

The issue with gambling is that what constitutes gambling is beginning to change, as we've seen with the whole lootbox fiasco. Video game "gambling" is not illegal by the current law but there are groups pushing to see that changed due to how gambling in games basically uses all the same techniques as real world gambling to lure people into gambling with no over sight or regulation. How this may tie into GTAO (and potentially RDO) is that if Rockstar were to add gambling they were put them selves under a very, very bright spotlight and it's possible they don't want that.

That said, as others have said RDO's two currencies helps it a lot here, as long as you can't gamble gold bars/nuggets or convert nuggets into bars then all you're gambling is your time and it's not really an issue outside of the potential PR spotlight from groups looking for a bone to pick. I never thought it'd come to GTAO cause it was a deep, dark rabbit hole of potential problems but I think it'll come to RDO eventually, or at least the minigames with play cash will.

Not that the game's future depends on it in any way shape or form of course, it's probably the last thing they could add that could keep the game's population healthy lol.

Could be why they didn't allow hookers. Try to get seen in a more positive and less taboo light, and by keeping gambling minigames well away from the gold/real cash being key too.

I hope, lol. Do like my poker. :)

How to beat the cheating online poker bully?

Im riding a donkey here but i can't figure out how R* can prevent "rigged" online poker games , when there's party chat involved.

All PS4 & Xbox games have party chat option, it's wired into the console and can't be overridden by developers.

Im new to the game and i have no clue how online poker  worked in RDR 1, when it comes to using party chat.

I think it has to be accepted that if you sit down with a group of randomers at a poker table, especially if they are part of the same posse, then you run the very real risk of them cheating using party chat.

This is not something I consider too much of a problem, though.  Firstly, because I largely want to play poker within my own friendship group and not with randos.  Secondly, because I expect the limit amounts will be small and generally for RPG/social gaming rather than cash farming.  Thirdly, because there's no way to pass money between players, the amount a team of four cheaters will make each off one sucker is minimal, and generally they'll just be passing cash around between themselves.

This minor consideration, imho, shouldn't put the kibosh on gambling in RDO.  That would be an over-reaction to a trivial issue.

I don't think you could guard against party chat, but even if you could, dedicated cheaters would simply text each other or whatever.   Guess the main assumption is that if somebody wants to cheat THAT bad just to win an online poker game that has no cash reward and is essentially just for funsies, then c'est la vie.

Well, YMMV, but you would consider RDO broke if it had poker that didn't find a way to prohibit communication between players?

Fair enough, but wouldn't it be easier to just avoid playing poker with folk you don't know than to abandon the whole game?

I still cant see how it's anything but a minor issue.

I'm now more than convinced it will come now.

The latest GTA:O update just added a 'spin to win' addition to the spectators lounge. Free to access from our new property and at 5k a pop for potential cash/AP points and weapons to interfere in events.

Definitely one day, IMHO.

Still not sure about poker - cheating will be too easy and no way to control it. I’d like if you could just play for fun. You could always play with friend and gamble pelts and carcasses (you’d have to Hunt with a friend and give him a number of pelts etc.) Even without money gambling would be nice to have.

Yeah, definitely a hurdle to clear. Just feel the legal/taboo side of things is avoidable now though. It's a start for sure.

Yes and gambling is a fun activity with friends. Even if it’s just a few dollars in the pot. Five finger fillet is not a problem, because cheating by cooperation is not possible. Dominos has the same problem as poker, just not to the same extent. There really is no way they can handle it unless gambling is limited as a posse activity and it’s up to the players to only play with people they trust.

Its easily done by simply having a third currency that can only be used for gambling and has zero use anywhere else in the game.  Then who would even care if a posse/friends cheated as there is no stopping some of these cats, cheating is just in their blood.

Yea just saw this. This is 100% Rockstar testing the waters for stuff like this for both GTAO and RDO, for better or for worse.

Why a third currency? You will only be able to buy gold, and you can't convert gold to money, so, supposing that you can only bet with money, the current system is already perfect for this purpose.

My thoughts on that is that while you wont be able to use real money to buy poker money in the current system, only gold as you said,  it still could be used to transfer funds between each other.  I wouldnt have an issue with that myself as i could care less if a friend helps a friend buy some guns or whatnot but i can see where some would and it may cause an issue. Im cool with either but just figure a third currency removes any and all possibilities of any type of useful fund transfer.

That last sentence is why gambling will be added eventually. 1. You can’t exchange your winnings for real cash. 2. You can’t purchase in game cash with real money.

Even in a scenario where u r playing a social game with only virtual chips and can't withdraw real cash.

There's a possibility that it constitutes illegal gambling.

RDO's "in-game/third currency could be exchangeable in a secondary/black market of the virtual currency. Provided by external third-party cash-out sites.

I would love gambling to be added. I dont really understand the gambling issue that gets brought up. I mean as long as its in game currency and not the gold bar system I am not sure why it would be an issue. I play a game on Ps4 that is a casino based game and you can actually use real money to tokens to gamble with. I have no idea why anyone would do that, I guess if you spend enough gambling you can unlock certain pets and clothing.

Robbing during poker would have to not feel cheap.

Every time we play we get robbed, no one would play poker.
