Sorry if I offend anybody but this weekend the cry babies were out in full force. Just logged on and going through St Denis. Guy shoots me for no reason and kills me..Ok... found him and shot back clean kill. Now the guy wants to bitch and moan for the next 15 minutes as he is trying to get revenge. All chat is laughing at him as he is swearing up a storm because he cant get his revenge. Each time he got near me...shotgun to the face. He followed me all the way to Strawberry bitching and moaning.

I had another guy later in the day joined in a shoot up in Valentine. Mind you all of us were playing around killing each other. This guy joined in and started an argument because we all had shotguns and he didn't. To him it wasn't fair and we are griefing him. Umm WTF you joined in.

Yesterday I forgot I had a treasure map. I popped it and went up northeast for it. Went past a guy and I didn't have a gun drawn. He sent a warning shot past my head so I stopped. Again he shot and it hit my horse. I ignored the second shot and trotted along. Stopped to check my map and blam I am dead. Re spawn and turned on voice chat and tell the guy I was traveling to my marker. He responds "you stopped to kill me".  Umm you fired first and I had no gun drawn. He finds me and kills me again. Ok now it's on. I find him and kill him. I find him again and shot gun to the face this time I kill the horse. This goes on for 4-5 kills of him as he cant get his revenge. Now the dude is raging in chat about how he lost all his hides now. Again I tell him you started it and I finished it. Now I get the blah blah..I am reporting you.... I am an ahole....I am being called every bad name in the book. I tell him don't start something you cant finish. I grabbed my treasure and left the lobby.

Word to the wise and its plain and simple you want to act like a hard ass in game just make sure you can back it up. Don't get all triggered because somebody actually shoots back at you and takes you down.

There is nothing funnier than when someone gets destroyed by the person they wouldn't leave alone, then has the nerve to complain. I love that his revenge was denied, and he was in his feelings about it. Leave people alone and you won't get embarrassed by them. Or in this case embarrassed and killed by you. 😂

But there are other thins to do in online, if i wanted to shoot people all the time i'd load up battlefield.

was browsing catalog yesterday, guy comes up lassos me, i break free, kill the wimp and get on, here he comes again, bam ,bye, switch session, get jumped by a 7 man posse, lost the pelts, shoot 3 of those, ride to town nearby: another lasso, wait untill he puts me on the horse, break free, and killed him. switch session.

i was trying to buy a hat ffs. had to kill at least 14 #mustkillallthetime wankers to even get it. so no, if you want killing, then at least have the balls to search someone who puts up a fight instead of all these lame tactics.

Yup, that's what I say... asshats that shoot ya just to ruin a hunt, when yer in the menus or afk for a few moments are wussies. I'm pretty sure there's a PVP mode for those looking for a gun fight no? I tend to run with a posse so it generally ends badly for em anyway. We were having a fists-only bar brawl the other day and some dumb nuts decided to use his repeater on us. We explained what we were doing, but he just kept killing us. Sooooooo... we grabbed our weapons and started to punish him a handful of times. Of course he then tried to run... we had none of that and kept chasing him down. When he switched sessions we took his body and went to feed it to an alligator. Sadly the gator didn't want the body, just tried to eat us instead. But hey... it was good fun.

Our posse is called "No Grief"... we do missions, hunt and other activities. If we see a couple of griefers, we tend to track em down and try to make their life hell.

Two times I’ve been hunting and I get kinda lost and focused so no clue whose aground me. Next thing I know bullets whiz by me I turn to find the moron attacking me kill them. Cont to kill them they left. I don’t get what they get out of it XP? I guess. I’ve been doing gang hideouts solo and guys have killed me.That I get we are competing for the loot. To me that’s justified. I will say maybe I’m lucky but I have had some cool peaceful experiences with players. I just don’t get what people get out of just randomly killing players. They can’t loot you. When I wanna fight I go to the pvp modes which are cool. Great game either way

As best I can, I also give other players plenty of space.

I don't shoot anyone unless they appear to be following me or trying to get an easy kill.

But I have, and I will kick the a** of the person(s) who try that. Massacred several dipsh*ts last night who needed to learn that lesson; more <expletive> CoD 12-year-olds.

The game is fun until xxFVkMExx  & xxFVkYUxx show up shooting, dying, and re-shooting to no end. No point to it, just kill-die, kill-die. And waste bullets. Nobody wins anything, nobody gains anything. I finally turn away to mind my own business in the snowy mountains to hunt & fish...and xxKILLDIExx starts stalking me. Really?

Other times though -- usually in the middle of the night -- I find a lobby full of happier, friendlier people out there minding their own business. You can tell the difference by how much slower the dots are moving around the map lol.

Only entity that wins is Rockstar; which is precisely why R* pushes griefing so much in-game. It slows money making to a "grinding" halt. Pun intended.

Players waste their time, money, ammo and use up looted items replenishing lost health, horse health, collecting their horse from the stable again, etc. just trying to keep these blockheads off their back and kick their butts in the process.

That’s fine if that’s your playstyle. Why not go shoot it out with others playing the same way? Killing a guy that’s fishing or hunting doesn’t take skill and doesn’t prove you’re good, it shows you’re a coward and not hunting people looking for a fight. “Get better” when you shoot them in the back while they fish? 🙄

Why not to play the showdown series if you’re so good? You get money and gold for that... you get nothing by shooting a guy with a fishing pole.

I'm not convinced he was being totally serious.

But eitherway, trolls gonna troll.

You're asking 'why troll?' and expecting a sensible answer.  That ain't gonna end well.  Might as well ask 'Why did you vandalise those toilets?' or 'Why you bully the little kid?'

You bully the little kid because the bully is personally deficient and unable to feel agency without inflicting their internal feelings upon an external subject. Little Joey, or 25 year old Joey, is stuck in life and doesn't like the knowledge.  Classic DSM IV stuff.

You DO realize that Johnny Cash song is from the POV of an outlaw stuck in prison who's about to be hanged for murder.

Now ya understand.

You feel like you're being "real Wild West" going around shooting up towns, Billy Badass?  Fine, let's get REAL Wild West.  Give us lawmen, give us bounty hunters, and give us a salary for hunting down griefers and stringing them up.

Wasn't Billy the Kid who tamed the West:   it was Wyatt Earp.  I'll be your huckleberry

I can't believe people are crying that players are killing them in Red Dead Online...it's amazing to me.

I'm sorry, but Red Dead Online is not a shopping & fishing simulator! You're supposed to be engaging with other players! I don't shoot every player that passes me & not every player I pass tries shooting me, but when that happens it's a blast...you know it is too!

The only real problem with Online is the community...you guys are way too passive. I slammed my horse into a guy, destroyed all his exotic pelts, tackled him & choked him to death & he took off when he respawned! WHAT'S THAT?!!?

Why is Fortnite more aggressive than Red Dead Online?!!?

I tried selling to a butcher the other day & was killed as soon as I got off my horse. Instead of running away, switching sessions, or filing a complaint through the player menu (which happened to me!), I stuck around & what started off as a gunfight between myself & two others lead to 4 different posses fighting each other in & around Blackwater for like 20 minutes.

Why & how could you not have fun with that or better yet, why would you NOT want that to happen?!!!?

I mean, I bet when you played GTA Online you killed plenty who were just driving by, minding their own business. However, the people who played GTAO as a car driving game deserved & expected to be killed! SAME HERE!

If you're upset with players being "Outlaws" in Red Dead Redemption you are what's plaguing Online...it's not money or anything else.

I don't think anyone is crying. At least I've not read that anyone has been reduced to tears.

PvP isn't the only way to engage with others. Co-op PvE is just as valid in terms of engagement.

Also, no, I know nothing of the sort. I don't find free roam shootouts fun.

That's you imposing your play style on someone who didn't appreciate it.

I wouldn't want that to happen because it isn't my idea of fun.

You'd lose that bet, 90% of the time I was in solo public and even when I was in a normal public lobby I very rarely shot first. On those occasions where I did it was more than likely to intervene in another player being griefed.

49 minutes ago, ASMorgan said:

I'm not upset, I don't think anyone is. I would like options that reflect my play style of choice.

I play games to relax and escape. I deal with life and death situations on a daily basis in real life. I don't need a "challenge" when I play games, my work is challenging and rewarding, so was getting my MSc.

Killing some randoms virtual character is neither a challenge or rewarding to me.

There is nothing negative to come from R* giving players options. I'd propose three lobby types, normal - which we have now, hardcore - free aim and no blips, friendly - players can't kill each other.

There would still be plenty of players for you to kill or slam your horse into, the only difference would be that they would all be prepared to, and enjoy, fighting back.

It's as true as ever.

PvE player: Wants PvE servers and PvP servers. win/win

PvP player: Wants only PvP servers. win/lose

If I go to a restaurant and someone orders lobster, but then I order prime-rib - what should happen? Should the chef say, since the other person wants lobster, you can only have what they want.

What would happen to a restaurant if it used that business model? One where only one type of customer was catered for despite it being easy to provide for both paying customers.

And comparing RDO to Fortnite? Really?  FFS, if you can't figure out the difference there, no one can help you.

Shooting other players is NOT the only way to engage other players.

Teamwork. Working together toward a shared goal.  Helping each other.  THAT'S engagement too, and it's very much in keeping with the spirit of the West.

Guys like you have this vision of the West as being some sort of post-apocalyptic wasteland of anarchy.  Nothing could be further from the truth...in history or in Western fiction.

The Western is about taming the wild, in bringing law and order to the frontier, in civilization over anarchy.   Your time is over, bois.

Since I started this trainwreck, I can't help but take this just a little personal.

I'm not crying about it, I started this thread to try and figure out why people would make an effort to ruin my experience. In the real world this behaviour is mainly limited to politicians, you see.

I did not get a notification from Rockstar that said I was supposed to interact with other players. And if I had I would send them a proper thank you note for the Story and I'll see them for the next SP DLC.

RDO is not a shopping & fishing simulator to you. To me, however, it is currently a walking simulator in which I can pretend to be a cowboy and shoot the NPC that looks most like my CEO. I know my limitations, which is why I am not to be found in Fortnite or Battlefield.

Getting into a gunfight with other players outside of a voluntarily joined deathmatch is a thuroughly unpleasant experience for me, as it will almost always occur at a moment that I'm doing something else. If I wanted to be interrupted doing things I enjoy I'd have had kids.

That is someone, maybe even myself, that didn't appreciate you forcing your playstyle on him and undoing an amount of work he was happy with, as @ALifeOfMisery already properly stated.

Imagine yourself sitting at a computer, doing your menial number crunching, slowly trudging through a pile of files when at the end of the day this one jackass comes and pulls the plug just as you think you're gonna save your work and go home to play videogames.

Not only do you now have to do all that number nonsense again if you want to get paid, you probably also respawned in an office three floors down and the elevators aren't working.

17 hours ago, ASMorgan said:

From what I know of Fortnite I think I can say that it isn't. I expect it's equally agressive once your enter a deathmatch. I don't know what Fortnite's lobbies are like though.

I think I might not want that to happen because I wish to buy a hat.

Hats cost money.

Money is earned through hunting, fishing, deathmatches, stranger missions or story missions.

The first four all involve getting shot. In hunting, fishing and stranger missions getting shot means not getting paid and that amounts to not getting a hat. And when I do get the money for my fancy hat, I can't get to the goddamn shop because a bunch of psychopaths are shooting up the town.

That would be my rough estimate on why I would not want that to happen.

I fired first exactly twice. When I was playing my driving game in a public lobby I certainly expected to get killed, but I can't say I deserved it. How do you come to that conclusion? I've done some sh*t in my time, but I didn't think that would carry over to one of my favourite videogames.

17 hours ago, ASMorgan said:

I don't believe the money is plaguing Online as of yet. That's a topic for somewhere else anyway. I'm also not upset with players being outlaws. I'm upset with players being dicks and I do believe there is a difference there. Being an outlaw would suggest there are profits to be had by coming down on another player, but as far as I'm aware you don't get my skins, money or fancy hat when you shoot me, so I would surmise that all you get is a sense of achievement in making other people's lives less fun.

Listen, this all sounds a bit like an attack, but I'm in a pissy mood for wholly unrelated reasons. All I was trying to figure out is why people do this in the hope that understanding it will help me accept it, because as long as I'm stuck the world with you people, it's all I can do.

Luckily, the whole of your post pretty much answers that question.

There'll always be griefers, that can't be helped. But I don't think you are one. You just seem to be unaware of the fact that you're ruining my day when you're waitin for me at the butcher shop and that your idea of fun, which you're fully entitled to, I should add, is not my idea of fun.

What's so hilarious about it?

I work for a private healthcare company that specialises in end of life care for terminally ill, expatriate, patients who choose to refuse ongoing treatment.

I can assure you, none of the terminally ill people in our care, the nurses, doctors or myself find it the least bit amusing.

You have shown yourself to be a charming individual though.

I can assure you, none of the terminally ill people in our care, the nurses, doctors or myself find it the least bit amusing.

You have shown yourself to be a charming individual though.

One day karma will hit him in the face so hard..., just ignore, not worth talkin to.

Youre not entirely wrong, but even gta was "fairer",even without passive mode, which is a joke imo. At least cops really tried to kill you and they had helicopters, roadblocks etc. It wasnt hard to escape, but you had to escape or you die at some point. In red dead you can often do what you want for minutes. No consequences, and it was completely different in sp.

Im not having a problem with getting killed,it still sucks atm.

There is being a virtual "outlaw" and then there is taking things too far in my opinion. I do think PvP should be expected on online gaming which is one reason why I dont really campaign for PvE only servers. With that said I am a proponent of healthy PvP.  Myself and my friends got into a fight with three others last night  because they attacked us and we kicked their butts. Two of them left and the one guy who stayed started to cry about it being a 3 v 1. We could have stayed and spawn killed him until he left but I told him that we would back off now and we did, I think he was kinda surprised.  There was no reason to continue to attack one player in my opinion. I find camping at butchers pathetic to be honest, I dont see that as playing the game at all as well as camping on roof tops to shoot people going to stores, like its just kinda immature in my opinion but thats just my opinion. I also dont see the point in bothering someone who is hunting and minding their own business.

Here is an example of a toxic PvP'er last night me and my friend had some guy who was obsessed with us because he attacked us as we rode by his camp. He was trying to desperately camp passive pop but we both killed him anyways  and rode away. He literally stalked us for about 25/30 minutes. We kept killing him over and over and he just got more and more angry. Eventually he rage quit and then sent me a message thanking me for being a toxic player lol. To me that is unhealthy PvP on his part.

Another thing that bothers me about these self proclaimed free roam "outlaws" is that the majority will not fight if they find out they have met an opponent who can match them or is better than them. I cant tell you the amount of times I have been attacked in free mode and as soon as they see I have a level of PvP skill they either run away or they leave the session all together. I loaded in last night and some guy killed me within 2 minutes and ran away. I hunted him down to a saloon and he tried so hard with his diving and running around to kill me but he didnt, I killed him. Here I am gearing up for a good PvP match up but he leaves right after just like all the other toughies. I find most people who like to attack people in free mode only like an easy target. When I want to kill I go to showdown series even though they have been a glitch mess but at least those people actually want to fight.
