After the money R* got, I'm not so keen on excuses. If and when other lobbies come, and more content because this really is bare bones, especially compared to old gen's GTA:O, we're only gonna be going through more beta testing.

GTA:O on current gen has basically been that for a couple of years or more now. They know how to make a game, but RDR is niche. So they bottled it.

I get your point, truly. But I feel it is an excuse. Sorry. I just want a full gaming experience is all.

The online map is a different map than the single player one, showing that they are capable of making changes to suit the mode. However, things like the gaming tables and Trapper stands till exist. Clive states "you'll be able to bring horses to us, once we are all set up". Content that is all in the game, just not unlocked yet. Which further enforces my idea that we are being funneled for purposes of testing. Plus Rockstar released this today: https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/60726/Red-Dead-Online-Beta-Status-Update

I know. Their track record is uninspiring. We'll see. :)

How does PvP slow down progression? I've played for hours undisturbed by others. PvE lobbies would simply take away the stress of constantly being on lookout. This would allow me to enjoy the game and take my time, rather then hunting and running to the butcher as quick as possible. If anything, I would make less in PvE lobby.

If you played GTA Online you'd know how it works.

There will be a lot more missions that involve you transporting goods across the map, there already is actually but the payout on them suck, that will change.

You become a target while you're transporting these goods and if you are successfully attacked, you lose that progress, thereby slowing your progression, it doesn't happen every time and it doesn't happen to  everyone but overall it slows down progression of the playerbase.

I have played GTA, but this isn't GTA so I'm not sure why you'd bring that up. In fact you can glitch a public session into a private lobby in GTAO. Something R* has never even fixed and can still be done to this day.

Why would you think there are going to be more transporting missions? These already make up pretty much all the missions in freeroam.

It's well known fishing and hunting is where the money is at in this game. Like I already said. You can do these activites for hours while not being disturbed. And if you are you can easily join a new session. Even the transporting missions I have done countless of, I did them without being attacked because I do them in low pop areas. My progress is not being slowed by PvP. It's only ruining my enjoyment of the game.

It's pretty naive to think GTA Online has no place in a conversation about RDR Online. Rockstar said themselves that they would be combining various aspects of GTA Online and the original RDR to make RDR Online and there are obvious similarities between the two.

There will obviously be more transporting missions as they are the easiest way to increase the grind and they all follow a basic formula of "Transport x to y and don't die" you're talking about the game like it's a finished product, Rockstar haven't even begun to add content yet, we will probably get some bunker type update reskinned as a ranch or something that will involve a trek from Tumbleweed to Roanoke Ridge for a resupply of chicken feed.

If you've ever been killed while hunting/fishing that is slowing your progression, even if only by a small amount. If you've ever had a mission sabotaged that's unquestionably slowing your progression. If you've never been killed it doesn't mean that it never happens which is why I said it slows overall progression of the playerbase, not you.

Presenting your anecdote of how it never happens to you is just that, an anecdote, and it doesn't change the fact that it happens to others.

Pass. I don't want to be excluded because I play a way R* does appeal to also. Please, don't give them this idea.

ex·clude

/ikˈsklo͞od/

verb

deny (someone) access to or bar (someone) from a place, group, or privilege

I'm not talking about excluding anyone from anything, simply changing the rewards progress for being in a PvE lobby instead of a PvP lobby. Clearly the point of PvP only lobbies is that R* wants to slow progress and encourage people to buy whatever micro transaction currency they will be selling. They can do the same thing by having different reward levels for PvE and PvP lobbies. It them becomes a personal decision to join a high risk, high reward lobby, or a low risk, low reward lobby. The choice is the players, but eventually everyone can purchase the same goodies.

Na bollocks to that. Just makes it more of a grind than fun. Pass.

(And I know what exclude means dude, no need to be petty, thanks).

You brought up GTA to prove a point that R* tries to slow progression by having public only sessions. When in fact that's not the case, making your point invalid. So if R* really was planning to copy and paste their GTAO to RDR (Like you seem to think they will) they would allow players to have solo sessions again. But I don't think they'll do that, they've already come up with new ways to make money in this game, they will likely keep coming up with new ideas. This ain't GTA ;)

I was just using myself as an example, I'm sure I'm not the only person who has came up with the idea to find a low pop area to make money from hunting/fishing.

Wasn't that the point of GTA V. Rival gangs slowing down rival gangs? If you solo play and expected to gun run in GTA you always lost your shipment (unless on a dead server nobody is on)

Actually it is the case, There are no PvE lobbies in GTA Online and almost everything that earns money in regular free roam can not be done in private lobbies so that is pretty obviously demonstrating my point.

You can get into empty public lobbies by changing network settings, that's a work around created by the players, it's not a feature implemented by Rockstar.

There are still many ways to play GTA without any PvP, including being able to make money and earn xp that is still supported by R*. Which currently is non existent in RDR. Even if R* sees no PvE lobbies as a way to slow progression, it nearly slices their playerbase which would also be their profits. I don't see how this makes any sense in R*'s eyes

Yeah, they will probably make their way to RDR Online eventually.

I don't know what Rockstar has against PvE lobbies but it seems that they think they can make more money off PvP lobbies. That's the only reason I can think of why they would ignore a very vocal portion of their playerbase.

Yes, it will stay in beta but the only reason for that is so they wont have to send in every new "version" (update) thru Sony Playstations quality control scheme, and they dont have to wait for Sony's approval to release it live.

So by keeping it in "beta" they can make changes whenever they want without the hassle, cause thats the normal route for games with so called "finished versions/updates" of there game.

You quoted someone that spoke of it and urself said it, "online is in open beta"

I just pointed out that it will stay that way "beta", well i think so, and the reason for that is what i pointed out (Sony Playstation)

I even think that the stage RDO is in now we can even call aplha stage.
