Thanks for this link.  👍 I got to the RD Online feedback page and asked for private, invite-only, and PvE  / no friendly fire sessions.  We'll see what happens.

I'm not going back to RD Online until I can free-roam and grind, without getting sniped or shot in the back for a $1.10 pelt (that, incidentally, barely pays for a can of baked beans.  😛

Thanks for the feedback!

Hopefully we all get the changes we need and want!

I have to agree with this.  These online games are good for friends doing co-op.

But I'm anti-social.  Part of it is my play style -- I multitask between the game and real life, so I often pause the single-player game to get real life things done.  That doesn't work in Online co-op.

And that's totally fine, some people have families and jobs or they just don't want to be bothered with other people or they enjoy playing alone. That's all cool, but it is a feature that may or may not make your experiences better.. I would recommend trying it out at least a little to see if it changes things even a tiny bit.

To be honest, it's reasonable to assume that Rockstar designed RDR2 for Online, and spent 8 years doing it, so the basic online world should be pretty good by now.  I assume that RDR2  single player is embellished over top of the online world design.  Plus they've had 5 years experience wiht GTA Online to perfect that part of it.

PS:  I haven't played any other online games except Unreal Tournament, so I don't know anything about the online betas.

That's very reasonable, especially since they planned to launch a Red Dead Online from the get-go, but it still doesn't change that this is one of the best looking Online Betas I have ever played.

You haven't really missed anything these last 20 years.. :) unreal tournament is still about as good as it ever got.

^^ I still have good memories of Quake/Quake Painkeep multiplayer; not to mention Return to Castle Wolfenstein's multiplayer. :)

And I still remember being awed at how cool sniping seemed from buildings in Soldier of Fortune's multiplayer. lol

The terrible, sad irony of GTA Online (and now, RD Online), is that Unreal could bring up a list of thousands of servers / sessions for you to chose from, for matchmaking, and it did it in seconds, with a 33K phone modem.  You could watch the list populate, sorted by ping time, and see how many players were in each session.  We actually had some choice.  This was in 1999-2000.

Such logical, useful, player-friendly functionality is ---well beyond--- the capability of a 2018 multi-billion dollar game developer like Rockstar, unfortunately. 😐  I'm sure they could very carefully explain to us, why it cannot be.

So as of now the only reason I see to play Red Dead online is to get better weapons to grief with

What is the point of this? What incentive is there to play and grind?

It’s mainly the lock on aiming making multiplayer adversial stale and feeling like a lemming fest. With freeaim you would have a lot more dynamic combat, movement and such.

Free aim is fun but not if everyone else is auto-aiming. At least there are variables. If you get caught without deadeye focus your aim is a bit jittery. Or if you're hungry your health core is low. Maybe they could intensify it to make it a little more challenging in auto-aim. But to be honest my aim is all over the place if I'm out of cigars and booze (deadeye and deadeye core).Or if I'm on horseback...I've got the most skittish f*cking horse, can't shoot for sh*t on it.

Freeaim may sound like the hardcore choice, but really it’s not. You’re still going to stand a better chance at surviving in a freeaim setting if you’re not super quick at aiming, simply because you can more easily survive and run away. When faced with another player in lock on aiming both of you can instantly draw and headshot and no movement is going to help. In freeaim as soon as someone draws, you will have time to move and not die instantly. This will perhaps even cool people down a bit and not make them want to shoot first all the time.

But freeaim is not really hardcore, compared to lock on. In lock on the good players will headshot you before you even think about shooting if you’re not a great shot. It’s not easier because even the good shots have the lock on and they will be able to make instant headshots at least 90% of the time at ranges where you may not even see them, while you’re riding or running. So freeaim is not for the hardcore and lock on is not for the bad shots. I think freeaim will in fact be a friendlier environment for the bad shots and especially if they ride with friends.

I hope freeaim lobbies are added soon, and I hope some of you people who like PvP once in a while but don’t like being instakilled over and over by strangers give the lobby a chance.

Why do you need a promise of a prize to play a game? Shouldn't the enjoyment of the game be enough?

Games are supposed to have goals to work towards. That’s why missions have objectives, and once completed you get a reward in some way or another. What fun would a game be if there was no reward?

True, many offer just that and this has loads if we count the buckles/awards too. But equally, we make our own fun out there. This type of game can just be social fun too.

(Well should be able to be more free, but early days.).

You should play games because they are fun and you enjoy them. Not for some promise of a reward. Incentives are for work, not play.

Maybe he thinks it's fun to "work" towards the goals in game?

Imo the game would be boring af if there was nothing to aim for, not any guns to buy, not any jobs to do, not any money/rp to be made

compared to GTA there is one important thing missing: cruising around with no goal in your favourite car!

its just not the same with a horse, feels like walking around, its not even close to driving a car in gta.

RDO's fun is hidden behind a gamemode that will probably never come.  a battle royale mode.  BR in RDR2 with custom weapons and the microtransactions will sky rocket!  i dont understand why they are not creating a real BR mode which you can play all day without having to play other gamemodes!

Wrong. Was with a 7 player posse yesterday. We were cuising from town to town. Other players said hi, because we don’t shoot unless attacked. Was awesome. We went drinking in tumbleweed, which was fun. You can mess around to a great extent in this game. Hunting together, being in camp, at the saloon etc.

you enjoyed playing with 6 others. everything can be fun if done together. even fallout76 can be fun with friends.

ok, cruising around is in there of course. but how important is the type of horse when you do it? in gta, i often just took some different cars out for a ride. how many different horses do you want to ride?  i dont even care about the speed difference between a warhorse and a racehorse. whereas in gta, i even cared or had to care about the type of tires.

gtao is good for collecting cars, but what will i collect in rdo ???

Oh like that - I get you now. Other things should be important in RDO, that’s just the nature of the time period. Although coaches witt four horses could be introduced.

Yeah, I got that part, but how do you play it? It’s never shown up for me in Showdown, nor is it in the quick join menu

You do know it's a completely different game? Yes, made by the same developer so there will be similarities in game style but it's daft to compare it to car collections and cruising around Los Santos. It's set 200 years before hand for a start. Apples and oranges.
