Dealing with idiots

Just wondering how people deal with idiots or trolls as the kids call them? Had a dude the other day on the mic blaring this loud profanity laced rap, your on a open mic why would you blast music? Also kids don't know what music is today either they like that synthesized I can't play any instruments crap so I blasted some fine mozart followed by some classic prince to drown him out. He left halfway through the most beautiful girl in the world

I really wonder about this generation. Zero consideration for others. Zero class.

Nobody wants to hear your music. Nobody wants to hear your mom yelling at you. Or hear you sucking on a bong. Or your sniffles, running bitchy, whining commentary, one sided phone calls, friends talking in the background, etc. Put your mic on mute until you actually need to communicate.

And for God's sake, get your mic volume under control. Or use your damned indoor voice. I have voice and game volume balanced just fine. Then some mouth breather comes along splitting our ear drums every time he opens his pie hole.

It's annoying when you mute all and then someone new joins in and you can hear them sucking air again or spouting some incomprehensible noise. Have to go and mute all again. Wish I could just mute and keep them muted no matter who comes in or out. Maybe there is such an option somewhere and I just haven't found it yet. I hope.

Yeah, mute 'em or start a party chat and you'll not hear it.

But I grew up on music with synthesizers so I can tolerate some. It's the whiny R&B that's a snooze. Always some dude crying some tart left him, blah blah blah. ;)

You can go into audio settings and turn off voice chat entirely.

I figured it was somewhere in the settings but just didn't bother looking yet. Thanks for the tip. I'm definitely turning chat off completely at this point. Funny though, cuz I don't remember being this annoyed during GTAO and talked to new peeps all the time. Now I just can't stand it, lol.

The only thing you can really do is mute the players individually or mute everyone if you want it done quickly.

But I would recommend not muting everyone, because there are times where I announce myself to other players as I approach them so they know I'm not a threat.

Newsflash: every generation has rude people. Some generations are more spoiled than others that’s the only difference between them all.

Anytime i hear someone using a microphone in the game it's usually a guy talking to his wife or kids crying in the background.

LOL. Yeah. Forgot that example. Or he's screaming at his kids (or wife).

That's not in dispute. The difference is that the current generation (and I'm going to go liberally with anyone under, say 35) don't seem to even understand the very concept of etiquette. Like not interrupting someone on the phone except for dire emergency. Not taking calls at the dinner table, etc. And it extends to online gaming with their being clueless that nobody wants to hear noise.  I miss the early days of game chatting where you had to actually push a button to talk.

And sure, I could just go into private party chat and ignore all of it. But when I'm not playing with friends, it's a useful way to meet new friends. Or to hear what other people are up to in your zone. I thwarted an attack last night because I heard a guy tell his friend, "that guy over there hasn't moved in like 20 minutes. He's either AFK, or fishing. Let's go get him."  LOL, meet my bolt action before you even knew I was waiting for you.

I like hearing the chat though as it lets me know what kind of lobby I'm in, if I hear people talking smack to people shooting calling people names I know to switch lobbies. When I hear people just having fun doing missions helping people I try to help them also

That's a pretty big generalization. I know more people older than myself who have a whole lot less etiquette than people my age (I'm in my early 20's). It all has to do with how a person is brought up / raised. Just so happens that the type of person who buys M rated games for their 10 year old and the type of person who is not raising their child right happens to intersect fairly often.

Sad to say, but I just tend to leave the session in hopes of the next one being less unpleasant.

Yeah I mute all too. I have no interest in hearing the nonsense and foolishness that comes through their mics. If they want my attention, they can send me a message.

Blast Penn Jillette's STFU clip (you know, the one that goes "You need.... To SHUT. THE. ****. UP") on loop until they are quiet 🤣.

I sit with my headset off, muted, on the floor. And listen that way.

It's not loud and I can catch people's intentions if they have something to say about me being nearby.
