.22 best pvp weapon?

So it seems the best pvp weapon is the... VARMINT rifle.. what the hell?

It'll 1 shot kill on headshots, and shoots incredebly fast. I really hope this will be patched. Don't even think a .22 would kill you in real life if you got shot right in the face.

All weapons kill with a single headshot. I think one hit kills via headshot is a little too much, headshots should only do increased damage. It can lead to some very cheap kills. It encourages a shoot on sight mentality since that other player can just dispatch you with a single shot if you give him the chance. When they fix honor, I imagine it will strip honor away if you attack first, meaning you would have to wait for him to attack first before you can retaliate without a loss of honor, but what if that one shot he fires is a headshot? Sniper rifles should be the only exception to this rule. The best weapons I imagine are the ones that have the most range and enables you to shoot first and land that headshot.

Honor does not mean much now but I imagine that will change when the game goes live. Right now you can even have max honor and get no store discounts, when I believe you are suppose to.

Not my experience. The revolver you're given at start of online needs at least two headshot to get a kill, tried several times I'm freeroam challenges

Are you sure your gun isn't just dirty? I've got 1-shots with the cattleman.

Yes i think you're right about all weapons 1-shot headshots, and that whats makes the varmint best pvp rifle imo. It has amazing fire rate and accuracy.

I find Bolt action to be the best at the start of a fight. You can shoot first upon opponents as they approach from a range that they cannot. I won 1 vs 2 and even 1 vs 3 fights cause I had the range on them.

They spammed their repeaters, but my bolt action rifle always let me lock on and shoot first and land those headshots. Due to the one hit kill headshots, the one who gets to shoot first is the one that wins so long as that shot is a headshot.

Yes, 100% sure. Tried with the Schofield later and that was one shot kill. You sure they had full health?

the Varmint rifle needs to be 2 headshots to kill or have the rate of fire cut. It’s stupid that it’s the best PvP gun.

It might have been lag that caused it for me but I tried several times so I'm quite sure. Also thought that maybe my aim was way off but after buying the Schofield I got the kill on first shot.

Not saying you're wrong cause there might be several things in play here and my testing alone probably isn't enough to determine this :)

edit: Maybe distance have something to say?

I guess OP came up against sometime good with headshots and they happened to have the varment rifle. Thankfully the thing isn't too expensive and the ammo is limited. And it's range is trumped by the Lancaster. Anyone with a handgun is definitely screwed but they have to keep on their game and not come into contact with a slugged shotgun or the Lancaster or Litchfield at it's effective ranges. However, anyone with starter weapons is boned.

Erm...it most certainly would!

Potentially fatal at over 200 + yards and beyond IRL.

I can't back this up, but in story mode, i mained it and knew for a fact that it would be good in free roam to get pvp idiots off me quickly. If it gets nerfed, I'm not going to play anymore. Sure it's a one shot headshot like everything else, but if you miss or hit body, you're already screwed.

Go buy one and stop whining.

I have used it since day one. Got it for free. I know you like it - of course you do. It’s the best gun. But it’s not about you, it’s about the game balance and the firing rate of the Varmint rifle is too quick.

I was surprised when my friend was telling me how he was killing people with a Varmit rifle. I was expect that thing to be weak considering the bullets it used. I might have to give this gun a shot and see how it performs.

Not for me. I'm having to hit people 3 or 4 times in the DM's or showdowns. I got them clean and close, often just takes half health.

But of course, I get dropped in one, lol. Very inconsistent.

Having read since, I'm still on the noob weapons, lol.

The headshot glitch can be annoying though

What is the headshot glitch? Seen it mentioned a couple of times but no explanation of what it is. I'm not after how to do it

It’s all I use for PvP. Getting headshots is easy and the rate of fire helps of you miss the first shot.

Headshots are always one shot regardless of weapon used from what I've seen and used. Maybe some of you have been hitting the upper chest or possibly some server lag has affected your shot or you may not have the best aim.

I ain't too sure on what it is but guessing by what people have said, i would guess it's a glitch that registers any shot on the person as a headshot.

Yep, been using varmint since day one and I'm getting close to having over 2000 kills with it. IMO there is no need to nerf it. As long as we don't get any free aim lobbies it is my weapon of choice. I haven't spent a single cent on any weapons yet since I'm using only the free ones and I'm very fine with this. Also a headshot always means a kill, no matter what gun you use. It is been like that since forever in r* titles. Sometimes my headshots did not register despite the fact that the game displayed the crosshair cleary indicating the headshot. However it is a rare occurance. Maybe you all just came accross players with "bulletproof hat" ability card, huh? (ffs why would r* do this again? I was so fed up with bp helmet kids in gtao)

There is no way you have to shoot people in the head that many times. I dont think it has happened to me once that someone hasnt instantly dropped when shot in the head. Even with starter weapons

Must be lag, very choppy out there today. But I don't really care as once the MVP trophy is in the bag, I'll not bother with pew pew pew games. :)

For me, the shotguns have been the best for PvP (outside of long range attacks). Every player gets bodied by 1-2 shots at medium to close range. Run around like a madman and blast them before they know what hit them. Can't wait until I unlock slugs.

Update: it sucks against the Lancaster at further ranges.

As of this moment, it is a good "anti noob" "griefer" and "ambush" weapon. But against someone with the same or a longer range weapon, you better be faster than them.

Again. Noob crusher but otherwise a good first swing. After that, use something longer.

just use it if you think it's that good.. Stop asking for it do be nerved.... Leave it as is. It is my hunting rifle and nerving it or dropping the fire rate will mess with my hunting :D

It should of course still work for critter hunting. They should just nerf the damage it does towards players. Cant be intentional that a 72$ rifle is the best pvp weapon.

I think it's great that headshots from every weapon kill in one hit. It makes it a hell of a lot harder for a posse of four to straight up crush random solo players as long as that player is decent.

Also, a .22 round to the face absolutely can kill you. There's a chance that it might not with today's modern medicine but it'll still f*ck your face up and an injury like that in the old west was always a death sentence.

Dude. The cattleman is just more difficult to use. I land a lot of 1-shots with it.
