So... currantly lvl 17

With the 3 gold I saved through the starting tutorial, missions and treasure maps. I bought a black duster coat (1gold) and an off hand holster (usually lvl 26 locked but 2 gold for early).

With the cash I have earned (missions, fishing and hunting) I have so far got:

-Bolt action rifle

-Bandana

-2x schofield pistols (both have rifling and sight upgrades)

-varmite rifle

-fishing rod

Currantly saving $100 for rifling and sight upgrades for the bolt action. Then its just a shotgun (pump action most likely) and the bow then I'm just going to go crazy with engraving, wraps and varnish for all my weapons.

Wait, can you get everything early as long as you have the gold? Even the items that can only be bought with gold?

^Yes, I got both the lake and river lures with gold while I was still well below rank 40 or whatever it is. If we can use gold to get the off hand holster, which I assume we can, that will be my next goal.

All I've spent money on is clothes. Just a couple of hats and jackets. It's left me with around $100. I don't plan to spend any more yet.

It's not so much the economy that's broken that makes it hard to accumulate money but there are so many things stopping you. Like getting killed by another player and suddenly having everything on your horse that you have collected being lost. It's the same when you start a mission. Everything you have collected vanishes. The butcher is broken too and it not always possible to sell everything.

Got my pump shotty last night so now I feel like I've got all the fundamentals covered. I suppose I'll be saving up and waiting for more information before I start deciding where to go from here. A few semi-essentials left to grab like second holster, a few more clothing items for a full cold weather outfit but aside from that I'm mostly just waiting for new things to do.

Ammo, guns and upgrades for guns is all.

Don't need to buy food as hunting and enemy hideouts provide a lot of the food I need.

I don't buy tonics at all.

Not for items that cost gold anyway but any item that is level locked that uses cash, yes.

When you select an item to view there should be a button to view gold cost (L2 on PS4) this allows you to see the early unlock price.

Higher the level lock the higher the gold cost though.

The doctor is the same way--after a short while, the system refuses to acknowledge items you're trying to sell.

Sometimes you can back out of the sell menu, leave the store, and come back to try again, but it's still laggy and sketchy at best.

I made a fat character since.... well I’m fat. Doing that has disadvantages though. One is the complete lack of looking good in any coat except one. The classic frock. That’s 10 ranks away, so I bought it with 3 gold. Insane really, but that brown coat looks really good on him. I had the Arabian as well, but a fat dude on a horse like that? Forget about it. I discarded it and got myself a dark bay Shire. So I’ve been stupid. I still only have the starter gun, the starter carbine, cleaver, and the bow. Reading this page made me buy a fishing rod too.

Oh yeah. Forgot that I can’t find a hat that looks good on him either. I did pick up a hat that looked great, but I couldn’t keep it. It was black and had an upwards curved brim, with a flat top. It’s not in the store as far as I can see. The normal hat I have is the dirty black Stalker. It doesn’t look good on him. I tried making a character that looked like me (kind of Lester-esque), but I ended up looking like a retarded Baldwin brother. I hope they’ll let us remake our looks at some point when YouTubers have had time to make tutorials (my gta dude was modelled after a Lester character creation on YouTube).
