Yeah thats what i do, you can also reel in your line to get it between the fishes and sometimes it looks like it even works like using a lure. It can happen sometimes that the fish just refuse to bite no matter what bait you use even before today. I'm not sure what causes it, but I found moving away from the area and coming back (or just going to a different spot) gets them biting again.
