X1X and I find people called 'CanadianDave' etc while I am in Australia. Which explains a lot of the lag.

Dedicated servers are fairly useless if they are in North America and connect people from Russia, France, Germany, Canada, USA, UK, Australia, China, India, South Africa and Brazil all into the same server. It's just laggy af.

I'd rather an option for a P2P invite lobby so solo/4 people could play with less lag. Or connect players to their LOCAL region dedicated server.

I believe that they have split servers, between America and Europe, since in my timezone (CET+1) its relative calm in the early mornings...

Im on XBox, and RDRO seems not being so "toxic" as people say, but I think that after the general relase for everyone today, that may has changed...

I'm on Xbox as well and can count the number of times I've been shot at on one hand if I was missing some fingers. I've put in ~36+ hours so far.

I don't want passive mode to be honest. You know they wouldn't give it appropriate cooldowns ect. It'd be just as easy to abuse as it is in GTA V's multiplayer.

Friendly sessions should be a thing though, as well as the option to hide your blip at long distances. So you could run off, get lost from them if you wanted to.

Lasso is fine as well. If anything deserves buffing.

In my roughly 6 hours of RDO playing time I've been turned into Swiss cheese more times than I can count. I spawned in on the outskirts of Rhodes earlier today and died within 10 seconds of starting the session. Then twice more in a minute. Then when I FINALLY got a chance to fight back I got my horse shot out from under me and I got tackled and stabbed. The only way for me to escape the bloodbath was to close the game.

Why the hell you don't spawn in your camp I have no clue.

If people are trying to convince me that RDRO is a "prehistoric form of GTAO" they don't deserve my faith, sorry...

Defending yourself is OK from gang members, wolves, bears and Cougars, and is a "vital part of the game", not just spawnkilling other players…
I don't even know why people find satiisfacting in just griefing and spawnkilling?

Yes, there is right now limited options what to do since it's a beta, but people should use their imagination, instead of just running around like asshats and shooting eachother.

If I don't remmber wrong the Online part of RDR2 was added in a very late state of these 8 years...

... why are you playing online then? You do realize the hunting and looting is what I did a ton of when I played a month of single player. The online game is literally just an empty shell of the single player game, but with other players in it. The reason people play online is to fight each other, or become powerful and try to outcompete each other.

Thank you for telling me why I play online.

Spoiler

It's for none of those reasons.

Every time I finish a stranger mission I end up in a lobby by myself, works every time. Very handy when I want to hunt for a while or just go for a ride.

Could be I’m just lucky.

When I’m in free roam with other players, if they don’t call out to me as they ride towards me, they die, plain and simple. Have I killed a few innocents that don’t have a mic? Probably. Not my problem. They could rein in their horse at a distance and wave, but when they charge at you with a gun out, you can be fairly sure their intentions are nefarious.

When a griefer realises you’re not a soft target they pussy out every single time.

A few years from now, players will have a barn filled with armored stage coaches with gatling guns, boxes of dynamite you can dispense from the rear, and bulletproof horse armor. All on their own private sugar plantation where they throw keggers and hoedown parties for their posse.

That is not why I play online games, and looking at posts all across this forum, that's not why a lot of people here play online games either.

I get what they are trying for, real wild west, outlaws.

I mean in the real wild west there were consequences.  So if they aren't gonna give us a passive mode, people need to have consequences.  There's really no point in free roaming, plants, hunting, etc if I'm just gonna continually get the sh*t shot out of me.  I'll be riding along, dude will kill me and then I get sidetracked killing him over and over until he quits.... Anyway, there needs to be consequences for being a sh*thead is what I'm saying.

I’m referring to this game. Not all online games.

The “content” of RDO that the previous poster was referring to is literally the single player material that has been available for a month. That is why a lot of people are running around shooting each other. It’s a different experience.

I don't think this beta's just a stress test. Otherwise they wouldn't be asking for feedback.

There are deathmatch and team deathmatch modes for RDRO. They're fairly good too, although I miss the bag ones from RDR1.

Playing with others doesn't automatically mean playing against them or killing them. There is a significant crowd who like co-operation in their multiplayer games.

At a personal level, I like pve and pvp, but prefer pve due to hackers and cheats often ruining pvp. The pvp games I play are cheater-free or done in a way so that cheating gives little advantage, such as World of Warships. I pvp that exclusive, the pve mode is...meh.

But I like the separation of pve and pvp. Otherwise, only one player type is getting the experience they want.

If there were server options like in RDR1 we could have Adversarial Free Roam and Co-Operative Free Roam. And also, importantly for many, free aim lobbies and aim assist lobbies.

Yeah, passive mode might be a bit much. Especially since hunting is a big part of Red Dead. Removing the dots on the map would help a lot. It made sense in GTA, everyone had phones and those were GPS. It would make wilderness encounters a lot more random, no more people coming to harass you while hunting. Though it would still make towns a nightmare. That is why we need some kind of law system. If you shoot someone or start causing trouble a posse a lawmen show up to start harassing you and you get a bounty. In town you should get a dot on the mini-map if you have your gun out, if not everyone will just be on rooftop with sniper rifle. Weren't allowed to carry guns in most town back then, so if you have you gun out while in town you get a red dot.

Wouldn't put it past them. Give it time, they will be scratching there brains trying to think of any hard to kill high damage thing they can write off as historically possible.

this is such a bullsh*t. we wanted to have fun in missions, but we couldnt even get there because of 3 griefers. you just cant get away. spawned right next to you and start shooting again. this goes on until i lost my complete ammo, couldnt even defense myself and I left the server.

I don't know what system you're on. Or if servers are split by country. But I've jumped servers so many times, and each one is the exact same. The second you go into town shots are going off everywhere. And most are centered around mission NPCs.

Aye, sometimes it feels like you've been dumped straight back into the same lobby you were trying to escape.

Team up. I have teamed up with a lot of random people when hunting and it works fine. I have not experienced any griefing to the levels I have seen in GTA. Just the fact that there are no jets and stupid flying sh*t makes it easier. I get killed once in a while, but it’s really a low level of violence. You may also see those griefers whine about money here, because ammo is expensive and I think your honour influences the money you get when Selling stuff.

Being the Wild West, I think the level of violence is reasonable low. But being punished for defending yourself is stupid. If they can fix that they should. BUT taking a honour hit because you kill someone in self defence is not the end of the world. You quickly recover and only people who persistently kill other players will get bad honour.

The main reason the game can be toxic is aim lock.

On a free aim server you would not be able to just “aim, flick, BOOM HEADSHOT” on someone riding past you at full speed. You would not be able to ride through town at full speed and do it either.

Aim lock is the main cause of toxicity in this game.

tbh the times I've played, rarely has anyone shot at me. People are generally focused on earning funds atm but i have no doubt the future will have a lot more fighting lol.

Aim lock does contribute in a way. If a dude is riding past someone, both parties know that they could easily fire the initial shot and kill each other and because both parties don't normally trust each other, they are liable to fire upon another. Another thing is when you select a state to freeroam in, it lumps you in with others who have chosen the same state and so the entire server is in one area generally which encourages people to shoot others too.

60% of the time, I enjoy Red Dead Online but the rest is bugs, griefing, and stress.. I have a bunch of critical opinions on this game's online mode and hopefully they get addressed when the Beta is concluded(probably within a year..or two).

I do hope some things get added, changed, or fixed. For instance, R* needs to add a proximity Emote feed similar to a kill feed, so you can tell if someone is waving at you or flipping you off from a distance. And why are all the player blips pink? I can't tell who's in what posse or who's bad or good so I can avoid them.. Also, they need to tone down the realism in Red Dead: Online, I don't want my cores draining(I can understand why dead eye drains) while I'm trying to browse the catalog or look at my map it's bad enough players can ride up and murder me whenever they want now I have to worry about feeding/cleaning my player and horse all the time too, and I definitely don't want my weight to make me or my horse take more damage because we're not eating 10 dollars worth of food every in-game day.. ugh.. it's very annoying in Free Roam. They need to make different playlists for that kind of stuff. Also, no matter how much you spend on your horse or how bonded you are, it can and will get skittish and freak out like in single player(I haven't been bucked off yet but it runs from danger). And the only way to avoid a honor penalty is to let the enemy shoot you first lol it should be based on the honor of the player/NPC you killed.

R* can't demand so much realism, team work and precision when the Red Dead: Online world is way too unpredictable. There's so much more that aggravates me beyond belief, but I can't really complain because this is a 'Beta' right now.. All we can do is hope Rockstar actually listens to the feedback, which in my personal experience, they never listen to the right feedback.

It amazes me R* hasn't done this. I agree, passive mode should stay in GTA. But we should have passive lobbies where we can fish and hunt undisturbed with the option to enter the current aggressive lobbies.

I know R* doesn't want to separate their playerbase like they've stated before. But with the current setup lots of people will stop playing. I've only put in maybe 3-4 hours since the Ultimate Edition day myself.

yeah, or atleast make it so that we have to eat 24 hours real life not a game day because those feel way too quick and i cant afford tonwat every game day and i forget also. nothing worse then hearing you are underweight and seeing your cores in the red. Also a passive mode could work if they made it so that you were passive against/to other players and not animals and npcs. (and couldnt do missions while passive) i like to see player interactions in the cities like st denis and blackwater, but sometimes people camp stores and just kill you when exiting

If you Hunt just an hour, you’ll have meat for many hours of gameplay. Don’t buy your food. Hunt and and add spice. You also earn a lot of money from hunting, so it’s win/win. I get so much meat from hunting that I sell 75% of the meat I get.

I think I eat three times a day on average. To do that you just need to kill a single deer on average :)

In my experience RDO is a lot more friendly than GTAO. Literally everyone, or let’s say 98%, is trying to kill you on sight in GTAO.

On RDO I’ve rode past plenty of people who just ignore me. Can sometimes be 5-10 players stood in the street of one of the towns and nobody pulls a gun.

I’m used to aggro, so to me it’s quite special. Haven’t come across any ”griefers” at all, really. Sure, I’ve been attacked unprovoked but what can you expect?

I’m mostly happy that there’s no K/D and no passive mode.

Seems to have died down a bit after launch.  Maybe it just depends on server or console.
