The game likes spawning you around a mass of players. When you choose New austin or one of the other states, it spawns you around a mass of players. Finished a mission? Spawns you around a mass of players. 

 

So far, I've been attacked once and that was by three people and i managed to survive. 

 

Just have your messages be friends only if it affects you that much.

Ummm....just click view profile of the messenger and join their lobby?

This happened to me a few times, usually I just decide to follow them from lobby to lobby and flip the trolling. Then I save their username and do it to them for months, even years.
