rdr2 story looks way better on a Xbox one x, is it the same for online?

Hey.

 

As we know on Xbox one x it looks better on storymode in red dead redemption 2, since it’s a true 4K 2160p  compared to pspro that just upscale it.

 

Do anyone have a compare video or have tested this online? Is the grapics improved in online too or isn’t it possible since it’s an online game?

Online is typically scaled down a bit because of all the additional information that has to be sent and received between the player and the server.  On top of that you're doing it with up to...30 players (what's the lobby cap for this game again?) at a time, many of which with different processing speeds.  So you have to take into account the lowest common denominator (in this case, the gap between Xbox 1 and XBox 1 X....gap between PS4 and PS4 Pro is not as wide).

Secondly - when it comes to consoles, the devs and the manufacturer usually have some sort of agreement to "keep the playing field level" between the systems.  In the past this was not much of an issue everyone had the same hardware and now they don't.  So even if they scale the online back to 1080P for both X1 and Pro users, they might not even let you run it at a higher frame rate than other users because it would give you an advantage.  

And that is basically the gist of console gaming online is that it emphasizes a level playing field hardware wise.  This generation obviously is different from all the previous ones and this is the approach the devs and manufacturers have taken.  

Now I could be wrong - maybe this won't be the approach they're going to take.  Maybe for now they're not doing the true 4K or upscaling (I even question the X1 and the Pro being able to do it efficiently with an online game anyways) because it's still in "Beta".  Making sure everything is stable first before they start pushing the graphics for some users.

Graphics are the same in online, performance the same too. Maybe a tiny bit better in some places like Saint Denis - because less NPC's. But we're talking 1-2 fps tops.

The past couple of days on the PS4 there are some pretty bad frame rate drops while in town, on a horse, and compounded when doing both.  It might be the servers too because it seems to be happening everywhere.  I'll be switching to a hard wired connection for the PS4 tonight to see if that alieviates it at all.
