Refrain from acquiring?

Recommended Posts

JumpingKentFlash

Is there anything we should refrain from buying? I’ve seen some people who had the bow, but then I looked up the price. Very expensive. Do we get it from a mission or something? Or do anyone know of anything we get from missions, so we can refrain from buying it and save those hard earned bucks?

I noticed some of the clothes you can choose in the beginning... are like several gold and locked behind 40+ ranks if you didn't get them as starter gear.

No items are given to you in missions like SP. I saved up all my cash for the Lancaster repeater for when I hit Rank 12. Got it, made it look as good as I can... but need gold bars to change the metals sadly.

All weapons are quite expensive compared to the money you make. Not realistic, but neither is respawning, permanent weapons etc. I think you should just buy the ones you like. For hunting the bow is both fun and great, so I think it’s a must have if you like hunting. Compared to other weapons the bow isn’t expensive, so relative speaking it’s not bad.

The gold bars required for weapon metal customization are obscene, I set the options to what I wanted for just one of my guns and applying the desired metals would've cost me 9 gold bars which atm would take at least a month with the rate we earn gold, I understand, and can appreciate the game wanting us to have to work for our appearance, it makes finally getting our character looking the way we want more satisfying, but this is several steps too far. I'm just glad the Volcanic starts off with the metal choices I want, because I have no idea when I'll be able to afford to customize my repeater and shotgun, and I refuse to play ball with R* pushing microtransactions on us.

Honestly I would wait till lvl 18 for Litchfield Repeater. Unless you go for bolt action rifle. Fun fact, you can bring them into "Showdown series" as starting weapon.

Totally agree! but if you are talking about real hunting, bow it's just funny. Nowadays such great amount of equipment exist, for example different hunting optics, like hunting scopes, thermal binoculars, laser range finder (  https://www.atncorp.com/range-finder ), etc. And different rifles that allow to hunt on a professional level. Of course, all these things are expensive, but this is such great pleasure, and it's not free.

Money Over Bullshit

You get throwing knives and dynamite from both missions and looting so I wouldn't bother buying them unless you want them in abundance.

Keep doing story missions and grinding until you get the bolt-action for hunting.

I bought a bow to go for those perfect kills early, but your mileage (or preferences) may vary.

For hunting purposes (only sure way of getting income once the story plays out), the bolt action and varmint rifle are must haves. Get the varmint first. It's cheaper and will pay for itself in about an hour of shooting birds and small game.

And get the fishing pole as soon as it unlocks - less than 10 Steelhead Trout or Salmon will pay for it.

Every weapon apart from the Bolt Action Rifle is redundant, it can fill every weapon slot apart from Side-Arm if you put a scope on it. The Cattleman Revolver is a solid weapon that should not be overlooked, it will serve you well for a long time.

There's a point to buy just about everything, except guns and clothing, where it comes down to preference and what you need for hunting. Most of the equipment and accessories have some function in the way of daily challenges or awards. Don't stress, you'll be able to afford it when you need it, just don't blow everything on hats.

Most ability cards are a waste of money, have a look into what's hot and what's not.

Roles, go for Bounty Hunter first, let's you get the gold for your further roles faster.

What about the new bow and new camera?  What would we need these for that the original camera and bow can't do?

The advanced camera allows movement while aiming - very handy for photographing legendary animals.

I like having a second bow. I can keep the improved bow fit with poison arrows and haven't shot a cougar with small game arrows since I bought it.

there is no big differecnce.

if you are not into photography, you dont need it! you can move with it and addd some filters, but thats it. you dont even need the camera for the naturalist role.

AFAIK the bow is a bit better, but here again: if you are not using your standard bow, there is no need for the advanced....there are way better guns out there

These are what I'd consider luxury items for the rich player.

The new bow looks better, and has customization options.

The camera is good for anyone who does a lot of photography.

And the wilderness camp is useful for occasional dailies.

The campfire has a discount voucher from the Pass if I remember correctly, or a person could wait for a sale.

Everything goes on sale eventually, that's the time to buy if you're being careful with your money.

Yeah, most weapons are not 'must haves'.

Bolt action is essential early on, sidearm is really a matter of preference.

It's a shame you can't try before you buy (this is where the editor feature would come in handy for everyone).

The differences in reload speed and fire rate are what determine how well a player will like a certain weapon.

Other than that, it's down to whatever you like the look of most.

They're pretty easy choices for anyone even casually into firearms history.

The only thing I'd recommend staying away from is the bounty wagon unless you like going after multiple target bounties a lot.

If bounties aren't your thing, or you only tend to do 1 or 2 target ones, the wagon's a complete waste of money.

The Improved Bow has better range than the original bow. Stealth sniping is much easier with the Improved Bow.

The original bow has better damage. If you end up with both, you can use normal arrows with the original bow while giving the Improved Bow the Poison/Fire/Dynamite arrows to make up the damage deficit while exploiting its range.

^^ True, but I slogged through the first five levels of Trader just to get the Weapon Locker, so I could eliminate a slew of unused weapons from my cluttered wheel.

Intense combat doesn't afford me the luxury of time, and the weapon wheel makes all the above even more of a headache.

I would rather R* sell me a more expensive bow that offers both, rather than requiring me to switch back and forth between two bows every time I need a specific feature.

I haven't bought the "Improved Bow" for that reason, and have no intention of ever doing so, just because it's not an attractive solution to me--just another money-sponging gameplay headache.

Look up the real life price of those weapons back in 1900 and you'll see how inflated they are in the game. Everything costs a lot more than what they would have in the years this game covers. But don't worry. You can loot 8 cents off leaders of gangs so that's a big help! 😂

Gives me a place to cook while I'm out wandering. It doesn't need to look like a millionaires camp site.

Regarding the wilderness camp, you should have a voucher/token under the benefits section that will give you a percentage off the price of it or have a token that will allow you to purchase a role item for free. That latter token is how I managed to get my wilderness camp for $0. Just check unless you used them on something else. 😉
