How do you feel about Red Dead's Microtransactions?

You buy things in 2 ways. With money or gold. HOWEVER, some things you can ONLY buy with gold. To get gold you either buy gold via microtransactions and your real world money. Or you grind and earn it. To grind and earn gold takes a long time to even get 1/10th of gold. You have to play certain matches over and over and survive only to get 1/10th gold. So to earn enough gold you have to do like 500 matches to get enough to even buy a coat! It's basically like GTAV but worse. GTAV was designed in such a way that encouraged people to buy microtransactions. But you didn't have to buy them as you could grind and earn the money. But in Red Dead 2 you have to grind more and its much slower. Therefore Red Dead Online encourages microtransactions even more than GTAV did.

You like the game in general? I wasn't going to play the game at all but a friend gave me his copy for free as he didn't like the game and got bored of it real quick. And i had 1 free month of Xbox Live that came with my Xbox One X so decided to give it a whirl. I don't like it either so will be giving the game away to anyone in the UK who wants it. So if your in the UK and want a free copy then gimmie a shout. Peace!

I like how earning money is slow. Gives a sense of value and progression and makes people think twice before wasting on unnecessary things.

PS: Yes, I will be buying my gold.

I wouldn't mind it if the earning opportunities were better in game.

In before people getting ready to buy their way to the top find out 10 gold bars costs $100. :D

More power to you.

But I rather play a game worth $60 bucks that has good content, then a (not) free to play game that tries to limit and restrict gameplay in order for you to spend money.

Needs re-balancing and a way to earn gold outside of missions / or be able to buy “premium” clothing with money.

Micro transactions are the cancer of our gaming generation. I miss 2005 so much.

And don't waste your time saying that we are not obliged to purchase these f*cking gold bars. They made everything so ridiculously expensive, that some things need 100 HOURS OF GRIND TO PUCHASE. A SINGLE f*ckING ITEM. ONE HUNDRED REAL LIFE HOURS.

I know some people here in the forums doesn't have a real life to live and will easily grind 100 hours for an item, but us normal folk can't do that. And I'm not spending more real life earned money in the game. I've already spent $99 for the ultimate edition.

I will take advantage of every single money glitch in this game. T2 can go f*ck themselves with this ridiculous greed.

I don't mind the grind and I'll even contemplate putting in a few extra quid as long as the content is engaging, rewarding and fun (I'd lay good money down right now for a RDR2 DLC).

However, RDO offers none of these things to me in it's current state, therefore I won't be giving it another second of my time and I most certainly won't be spunking my hard earned on gold f*cking bars.

Gold bars for cosmetics is 100% fine and far better than shark cards (potentially), having to earn your guns and other power-increasing items by playing is good. The main story rewards like $500 or so overall I think which is also pretty good but after you've finished those making money is slow and that's where the problem is atm. They need to bump the payouts of everything else and possibly not be so strict with the level gating on a lot of the stuff. Essential stuff like bows, fishing rods, lures and baits etc should be available within the first hour or two - hunting and fishing should really be a core part of RDO from day 1 and not something you have to play a bit before you get.

IF they buff payouts then this could be great. My hope is they started purposefully started low so they can buff rather than nerf, but that is just a hope for now.

This ^ . Its not fun at all . I dont want everything handed to me by no means, however i should not have to spend so many countless hours just to affford alittle something. Heck a friggin haricut costs 40$ . I played numerous matches last night for over 2 hours to make 40$ . So i could get  1 haircut..... I can get a haircut in 2018 for less than that BS. They need to rework this mess .

I'm not sure exactly how I feel about the economy in this game, partly because I haven't seen what it will cost to buy gold bars.

I'm from the old days where MMOs were financed with monthly subscriptions. I get why that's not the model used anymore. Most people don't play a single game for months or years, and a lot of people aren't willing to play the game out and get the loot, they'd rather pay to buy it. Since the game is free I understand the need for microtransactions, money has to come from somewhere to finance the games development.

I think the cash price for guns and other items are fine where they're at. There's no reason for anyone to have a full arsenal of customized weapons overnight. I don't consider playing this game a grind, because I enjoy the game. The argument is constantly made that it's a grind to get something, and to that I say if you feel it's a grind then you're not enjoying the game and you should move on because it's not for you.

I think the payout for gold on missions should be increased slightly, but I don't know how much gold is going to cost so it's impossible to say how much it should be adjusted.

Are there even micro transactions in the game yet??

I never once needed them in years of playing GTA so can’t say I’ve even noticed.

If there are, they won’t effect me in the slightest.

Those of you that are bothered by them, just don’t use them and pretend they’re not there.

Problem solved.

So many people jumping the gun without the facts. They play one game and lose and get $1 and base the whole experience off that.

have you handed in perfect pelts?

have you farmed as a posse?

have you completed the main story?

did you win your matches?

At rank 12 and got like $300, bought upgrades for my horse, bought 2 abilities, bought a couple of hats, bought 2 jackets and I still have a heap of cash.

As long as microtransacrions play a purely cosmetic role then I'm not bothered. As soon as it turns p2w though I'm out.

Everyone's crying wolf before the wolf has even come. Play the game and enjoy it while it's not p2w and give your feedback to rockstar about microtransacrions.

who cares about a blooming jacket

No but R* have advertised pretty boldly they will be added after the BETA is over.

Gonna be eating them words when "You need x gold" is constantly an option and they add ads to the loading screen for gold.

Problem solved if you're a lifeless dude who is okay to grind hundreds of hours for a few items smh.

Someone hadn't noticed that horse insurance, to protect your expensive ass horse in case of griefers, requires a not insubstantial amount of gold bars.

I don’t feel very strongly about them. I dislike buying ingame money for real money, but it seems R* is limiting real money to cosmetics (and horse insurance) - for now at least. That’s fine.

They are a Company and micro transactions will make them focus on the future of the game rather than just the release. If done well microtransactions can lead to a more healthy game, where the Company has greater incentive to ban cheaters.

Neutral. I don't care about clothes, all high-end weapons, all horse types. Probably a couple of weeks to a month worth of playing will cover my base to then just keep engaging in the Online world's free roam and story missions casually and participate in organized modes. Most of my time in Redemption multiplayer was spent playing gang shootouts, so I think it'll be the same here, and for that one, microtransactions aren't needed. Players will be voting with their wallets and it's up to the community how Rockstar will advance with the Online economy.

Not read aside OP yet. And I've cooled a little. Bit conflicted as I feel no PvE is related I guess.

As I said in another thread about this, I don't mind it as much as others, my issue here is the free aim guys are lashing out at me in game now and that's not my f*cking fault. Pisses me off.

That and invite/posse/PvE sessions. Key.

It is tedious to need over 100 bucks for a bow, and level locking fishing is comedy gold but I will get there at some point.

This isn't like GTA for me as I don't intend to own many horses. (Probably kill 4 after that trophy) as it costs and I'm not down for that way like I did in GTA searching for that American dream or whatever wall street/James bond stuff. I want to fish and hunt without being called names and shot in the back of the head.

I agree it looks strong, but not played enough to fully comment. Could be way off, but I had planned to play for ages, maybe years. I dunno. PvE is key and I'm really frustrated by this 'public only' focus.

utterly disgusted to be honest.
I expected to have them against early access to Guns and Decent Horses, but its all over the place.

Gutted that they've taken this road. I don't think it'll make as much cash as they think it will though, but I'm probably wrong. jesus after Resi 2 in January (which isn't even a new game) I can't see much on my horizon for gaming in general. best grow up and stuff. lol

I hate it. In gtav it was kinda "discreet",in rdo it shows me the optional goldbars on top of all other options at the barber for example. It honestly feels like ripped off a mobile game.

And all the stuff that you can get atm isnt really exciting, just like it was when gtav started. But at least gta had great prices at that time and after a couple of hours you could buy a weapon and a car already.

Played a few hours yesterday and bought nothing yet,im already trying to keep my money together...

I expected a slow start like gtav and higher prices in the coming month/years. But this time its insane from the start.

Each to his own but the people who buy microtransactions are the ones that are killing gaming. You have been conditioned by the industry and fallen for it.  You are willing to bend over and let Rockstar shaft you, with no lube.

the biggest contra is: no online poker because of that..its a shame!!!

They can't have poker when microtransactions are there as then it would be real world gambling and instantly banned. Countries are banning loot boxes because its gambling and young kids are gambling more than ever before because they grew up with video games that are gambling dressed in a different form. A whole generation of kids have been conditioned by the industry and now addicted to gambling or see no problem with expensive microtransactions as such as all these things are normal to them, that's what they grew up with, know and are used to. The gaming industry is praying on the vulnerable, people with addictive personalities.

The whole "If done right it can be great" is total bollocks mate. The gaming industry uses that excuse of "If its done right it can be great" But yet they NEVER give examples of what is right, never.   Overwatch isn't done right. Overwatch has turned people into gambling addicts. And that's a fact. I just explained that in a comment above.

Just now, REXX said:

And there is the problem in a nutshell.
