Red Lynx 23
I was mailed a treasure map at level five, and level ten. Then I found a third after clearing out a Skinner Brother's camp, and looting them. I'm also close to level fifteen and will get another treasure map when I rank up. In a Posse of 4, each time, 1 sells all stuff. Gets around 25 total. Repeat process. It is better to skin the animals because they sell for the same as unskinned ones in Online. This has the benefit of selling the skin and other materials on top of the carcass. Hunting is my favorite way to make money. I invested in a Vermint Rifle for getting a lot of bird and other small prey and a Bolt Action rifle with scope for bigger ones, kills everything one shot, made it so much easier. On top of that I steal an NPCs horse to store up to 6 animals. Just need to make sure I ride the stolen horse because it won't follow you and despawn quickly if you get too far away. Depending on how lucky you are with the spawns you can make like 50 bucks from a trip to one town to the next. Vice Beach
It seems the best way I’ve found to make money is to do quick job story missions over and over, sometimes you’ll get some that pay pretty well and most are also pretty fun. Updated the op Edit: I can now easily make 75 - 125 bucks a hour, just by hunting outside of Valentine or Blackwater in lobbies where there are barely any players. Killing a 3 stars whitetail buck pays me about 15 with max honor, excluding the meat, which I use for food. Good idea However, my local butcher (in Tumbleweed, I’m camped close by) won’t buy any of my skins. It says he doesn’t accept these items when I try to sell pigs. I guess I will try another town. I have max dishonor (long story) and my buddy has good honor and in the catalogue everything was the same price. Maybe that’s just buying through the catalogue tho I don’t know. "Thanks for clearing our Fort Mercer. Here's your $1.52!" Now I'm a third of the way to owning my very own horse brush. So far Wolf carcasses have been a good source ($3 each depending on condition) and grizzly skins in any condition. Since RDRO isn't exactly crawling with grizzlies and wolves, I've been shooting anything that moves and stacking pelts. Hatin Since 87

Jason
The jewellery box method is decent money but too competitive now. Hunting is probably the most reliable way if you can get the spawns and have the weapons needed. Fishing with a lure is also good but ya need a lure, fishing with the early baits is maybe 60-80 dollars an hour but it's very repetitive.

Doublepulse
The treasure maps while a once in a while thing is a very lucrative and good way to get money. Each chest so far has earned me around $75-$125 as well as a decent amount of gold nuggets. Hunting is the next one for me aside from the missions and show downs. sudoinit6
I just spent one day and night cycle killing everything I could and made ~$80. I tried to stick to small things like birds and rabbits so that I wouldn't lose everything when the griefers killed me. I ended up with a 3 star deer buck, two 3 star geese and a crapton of pelts. It seems like there is a bug right now, everytime I killed a rabbit, skunk, opossum, badger, or raccoon with my varmint rifle I got a perfect pelt (but not a perfect carcass). I would focus on deers a lot more. Even a poor deer carcass and the pelt pays more than any stranger mission. I mostly use two horses and always kill two 3 star whitetail deers (Preferably bucks). Skin them and carry carcasses on horse. Then just shoot any other with a rifle or repeater, headshots are 9/10 critical, and skin them. If you find any 2 or 3 star animal on the way back, kill it, skin it and carry the carcass yourself. Guaranteed you'll have about 40 - 50 bucks on one hunt. I always played hunting games, so for me this is actually very enjoyable.
Happy Hunter
The big money is in the main missions for the first time. After that, treasure hunts. Then your "big money" opportunities are more or less gone. You can still get semi-decent money though. The varmint rifle was a good buy. Rabbits and squirrels, other small animals - they're everywhere. So just going from a to b you can pick up good condition pelts and bodies along the way. They add up. I've now spent all the rest of my money on a bolt action rifle and a fishing rod. The bolt action opens more doors regarding hunting, and should give a big edge over other players and their carbine repeaters. I see some potential in fishing. It's not a huge payout yet, but I'm curious if you could make a decent amount getting bigger fish. Preferably big, but not quite so big you can't store it in your satchel. Then you could get a load of them.

Happy Hunter
9 minutes ago, Chessmaster said: How many pelts can you hold? I assumed only one because you have to put it on the horse? Depends on the animal. Small pelts don't even go on your horse. Rabbits, etc. As far as I know you can hold a good amount of them. Slightly larger pelts, like deers - those go on your horse, but you can stack them. I think you can fit quite a lot on there. It's only the big animals whose pelt will take up all your room. So, I think a bear would take it all up. I think anyway. Those might even stack, but I doubt it. Need drugs
Assblaster
Each and every time I hunt, I get a ton of pelts, only to have it all taken away by disconnects. Totally unplayable for me. Shadowfennekin
What I did: Main missions and treasure hunt 5, 10, 15. Use the money to buy a bow(cause it helps you farm health in hideouts if you play stealthily) and a Bolt Action Rifle. I didn't buy the Varmint as it's free for me due to my edition, but I'd also recommend that. Have all the tools necessary for hunting Hunting is the best way to make money Herbs are a waste of time, every herb sells for 25 cents Even if you don't want to sell the pelt, shoot an animal anyways so you can sell the meat/feathers and excess parts If you're walking through water be sure to have your horse stomp fish so you can snag an extra few dollars I might buy the fishing rod when I go Plume hunting later since I'm the right rank now. Might as well have it in case I need it later.
Pocket Fox
Lasso, bowie knife. Find 3 star Florida cow, lasso, pull it in close then O/B to slit it's throat. icefds
Hunting in the bayou area. Since the game keeps crashing, i just kill birds and other small animals, so i don't lose stuff. Thankfully, egret and pelican feathers pay a small fortune and at night, there are owls, skunks, muskrats and raccoons. Did anyone upgrade their saddlebags btw? Can you carry more than 10 feathers of each bird, if you upgrade them?
