XBox One: Is mic sound not proximal?

Really excited about the potential of mics for roleplaying, taunting, opponents, etc.

But it seems like I can hear players completely across the map right now. Is that a bug or intentional?

(Seems like mic sound should only be heard in your immediate area.)
