GTA6, why haven't we seen a trailer yet?

Recommended Posts

Hmmm nice bike

Part of me wonders if they're being even more tight-lipped about GTA VI now is because of what happened the last time. GTA V was announced in the fall of 2011, but it didn't come out until two years later. I really think that the game was meant to be out way sooner than 2013, but they ran into numerous issues that resulted in it being delayed, and then there was almost a year that went by with no other information whatsoever and everybody complained about that. Plus, a few people I talked to about it think that it also probably harmed Max Payne 3 sales because it reached a point where we were all aware of a new GTA and with Max Payne, a lot of people just thought "Who gives a sh*t, where's GTA?"

Basically, now they're not going to announce anything related to a new GTA until they've reached a point that they're very confident in the progress they've made on the game. Even GTA IV had this issue. I remember reading an article in 2007 where someone at Rockstar said that the game was about 60% done, and people pointed out how it seemed a bit too close to the initial October 2007 release date to be saying that. Lo and behold, they delayed it to April 2008 just a few weeks later. History then repeated itself with RDR2, which was supposed to be out over a year ago in case anyone forgot.

Too early

Expectations get higher every game

Gta 4 was too realistic and thus was "boring"

So they made GTA 5 and people complained it wasn't like GTA 4

My guess is balancing realism of GTA 4 & And 5 is the goal.

And that takes time, with GTA Online and Red Dead taking up resources. The game is probably 50-60 percent done by now.

Expect an announcement this year

Early 2020 PS4 Release

2021 Next Gen upgrade

And for those saying GTA 6 development hasn't already started are wrong

GTA 6 development probably started the moment gta 5 came out on ps3

Full production probably started as Red Dead 2 wrapped up.

I honestly dont think they even care. they know they are not gonna make everyone happy. besides both games were highly praised and were selling great. thats all that matters.

I don't think they will release a trailer until at least 2021, because IMO, I think they would be working on Bully 2 next or Agent.  I'd love to see another LA Noire type game from Rockstar though

If they're working on anything new that isn't GTA, it's likely going to be Bully 2. Unless they're continuing work on Agent under a different name, Agent seems to be dead in the water. After multiple years of renewing the trademark on the name, they officially abandoned it a month ago. I wouldn't hold my breath on anything from that title being released besides the leaked artwork and concepts we've already seen.

For me 2020 is more plausible, 2021 seems a bit too far away... If it's 2021 the game would probably be out in 2023, so GTA VI would celebrate GTA V 10th Anniversary! 😂

Now that we're 99% sure that GTA VI will be next-gen exclusive, I think we have to wait the announcement of next-gen consoles if we want to see GTA VI trailer... But they could also leave a bit of "mistery" by simply doing what they've done with GTA V: announce it without saying on which platforms the game would have been playable in its early days.

Anyway, with a difference of more or less 10 years between GTA VI and GTA V, I'm expecting to see an almost perfect game, they had plenty of time for developing it. I'd be happy to have a GTA VI similar to RDR2 in some aspects, especially regarding the story: RDR2 story for me lasted about 30 hours, having a good storyline of almost 50 hours + all the extra stuff for 100% in GTA VI would be amazing.

Don't you think they would release it on this gen consoles if the game comes out in 2020 or 2021, I still think they'd be making games for XB1 and PS4 then

How could GTA VI be released in 2020 or 2021? We all know how Rockstar acts now, they drop the 1st trailer and then after 2 years we have the game... And trust of me, they'll do the same thing with GTA VI, they know very well how to hype people and for such a big game, they won't let pass just one year from the very first trailer. 2020 basically is impossible.

2021 in theory could be possible, but this would mean that we'll have a trailer this year: highly unlikely considering that it would immediately kill both RDR2 Online and GTA Online.

Next Gen consoles are rumored to be out in 2020 with their official presentation during this year. GTA V got announced in 2011 when PS4 and XB1 weren't presented yet and it came out on 17th September 2013 just on PS3 and X360 because, at that date, they were the only consoles on the market. Wouldn't Rockstar look bad if they'll release a game on old gen systems when next gen systems are already on the market? Yes, they would.

IMO they've just been lucky with GTA V. They could have easily done the same thing with GTA VI, but when you focus too much on other stuff (GTA Online), you forget other ones.

Let's all hope to have GTA VI only on next gen systems, I don't want an old game that barely runs on current gen consoles. I have horrible memories of GTA V running on PS3: glitches, 15 FPS, texture disappearing, awful graphics, 720p resolution, terrible input lag, PS3 CPU and RSX over 80°C, etc.

You're speaking as if this were all purely intentional. GTA V originally had a release window of late 2012-early 2013 and RDR II was intended to hit shelves in late 2017. Yes it has become a trend for Rockstar, but it's only because they've underestimated their workload and been forced to delay these games. That's not to say it won't happen with GTA VI, but I'd hope that Rockstar would learn from previous mistakes and not showcase the game before they've got a semi-solid release window.

Mark my words, Rockstar almost definitely have enough of the game built by now to release a teaser trailer. However an announcement now would surely put a nail in the coffin for GTA:O and possibly RDR:O. Why put down your two biggest cash cows now? Especially considering VI will make more through microtransactions than initial game sales?

Well like you said, officially it isn't purely intentional, Rockstar won't never tell "We've delayed the release date of our game just for building up some hype". A sentence like "We've delayed the release date of our game for fixing some bugs and glitches" sounds better, especially for shareholders.

I higly doubt that an organized company like Rockstar with multiple studios understimate so much their workload, RDR2 has received a 1 year delay, we're not talking about a few months. More or less the same thing happened to the PC Version of GTA V which should have been launched in November 2014 with PS4 and XB1 versions: it was delayed to late January 2015 and then again delayed to April 2015... 5 months for an already existing game, the PC version was announced in June 2014 with PS4 and XB1 versions! Also add the fact that chipsets that PS4 and XB1 have (x86) are very similar to modern PCs, nowadays it isn't so difficult to do a Console-to-PC port.

I respect your point of view, but I still think that 90% of Rockstar delays are intentional.

Oh they've probably started to collect some ideas for GTA VI back in 2013 after GTA V came out. When GTA IV came out, Rockstar North was already thinking about GTA V and they've started developing it. I'm 100% sure that there would be plenty of stuff to show of GTA VI but, as you said, why do they have to kill their 2 cash cows?

GTA Online will probably have a few more DLCs, RDR2 Online will surely receive new content in 2019.

When in doubt, blame Red Dead Redemption 2.

Honestly speaking, development and release cycles and intervals have increased between each games. The next GTA might be new-gen console exclusive or might just support PS4 & X1, depending on how early it's released. PS5 is around the corner and Rockstar might just be waiting to announce a trailer post a PS5 release.

After this latest GTA online update.....Up N Atomizer gun? 400k? Shooting goddamn laser or whatever it is? What's next? UFO Invasion DLC for GTA:O? What the f*ck Rockstar? Chumps. I'm not even that eager to see what GTA6 will be like. Kind of lost interest in GTA.

Why do we have to blame Red Dead Redemption 2? It's a beautiful game and, as you can see from my avatar image, I really liked it. Stop blaiming it, Rockstar doesn't make only GTA! Actually if you want to address the "fault" on something, think about GTA Online and how it has been supported for more than 5 years!

On the second part I agree, engines are now more complicated and the content inside games is always increasing. More content means also more code to write, so more work to do. Maybe things like Ray Tracing could cut a bit the workload on the engine side.

I wouldn't make judgements based on GTA Online for GTA VI. Yes, GTA Online is now a "messy thing" and this new Up-N-Atomizer is just another futuristic weapon in a futuristic Los Santos full of militarized vehicles.

Every GTA has a good storyline and I'm sure that even GTA VI will follow the same rule. I'd be worried only about GTA VI Online but what people fail to realize is that Online is just an extra and it shouldn't be included in the overall judgment.

I'm a GTA IV diehard fan, but I've to say that I liked GTA V too... I read too many times "GTA V sucks because the Online is a mess". And the storyline? On the cover there's clearly written Grand Theft Auto V which includes Grand Theft Auto Online. The same thing happened more or less to RDR2, amazing storyline but awful online component (at least for the moment).

Don't make judgements on an Online component, the Multiplayer mode will always be for any publisher their cash cow, singleplayer experiences don't have the same treatment and we've seen with RDR2 what Rockstar is able to do.

I think Rockstar has done an amazing job with RDR2, it's the best thing they done since IV, well the storyline, if they give the same treatment to GTA VI, then I will be very excited.

The game itself (RDR2) is not at fault. It's all a part of marketing strategy. I remember when they released Max Payne 3. There was only a year's difference between GTA V launch & Max Payne 3. People were hyped for GTA V and hence MP3 didn't get much attention and quickly died on fandom side. That's my whole damn point. This time they are spacing between two games. RDR2 and RDRO was based on GTA Online's success and the fact that GTAO is going strong is evidence of RDRO getting the same support and delaying the next enough to space out & build a fanbase for the game.

Ok, now I understood better what you wanted to say with that sentence, but I don't agree on 2 things. First of all how can RDR2 (singleplayer) be based on GTA Online success? They've probably used part of the money gained from Shark Cards to develop RDR2, but I don't see how GTA Online influenced RDR2 a part from an economical perspective.

RDRO is based on GTA Online at its worst state... Back to the old gen days, GTA Online played a very small role in the overall game, Shark Cards were there but with initial prices (Sport Cars 100K, Supers 500K-1M) you weren't forced to buy them. RDRO started immediately with ridiculous prices, small payouts and microtransactions that shoudln't be present in a "BETA". IMO RDRO won't receive the same support that GTA Online had, the player base is very different and the stuff to add wouldn't be as various as in GTA. Also add the fact that people are already leaving the Online because there isn't so much to do.

I don't see how they can use the money to develop a whole game. There's no thumb rule which says that Shark cards from GTAO can be used for RDRO. The fact that shark cards play a bigger role RDR2/RDRO is a clear indication of how GTAO influenced from an economical perspective. It literally paved the way for R* to force you into buying them as they cards were quite profitable. They don't care about features or players clearly. It's more of a game of making big bucks now.

RDR 2 has only been out for a few months and GTA Online is still going strong.

We probably won't hear anything about GTA VI until 2021 or 2022, maybe late 2020 at the absolute earliest, and that's if we're lucky.
