How is anyone defending an 8 hour grind for one shirt?

Really disappointed that they seem to have just copied the GTA Online model soup to nuts, including the parts of it that eventually ruined it.

I'm glad they went that way. Hope it fails miserably.

Could be a humility lesson for Rockstar.

It's ridiculous.

I'm literally just playing for fun. Aside from weapons, I ain't buying sh*t. I wanted a bow so I bought one and even though it's quite expensive I might buy the Bolt Action Rifle next just so I can score some perfect big game pelts. I'm still having more fun than I would be having on GTA Online right now, this stuff is actually new

Hopefully they improve payout and decrease costs when the player count starts to dwindle from this bullsh*t. And buff the selling price for Fences too. Everything sells for a dollar! In singleplayer you could make $5 off a SILVER watch. Online gives you $1.25 -_-

That stuff is so obnoxious and transparent. I don't understand it, because it's not even necessary. They control earn rates on jobs and drop rates/RNG for all sellable loot. They can also add more expensive, flashy customizations, clothes, horses and weapons that aren't in single player and sell them for more. So what do they do? Just make stuff cost more and valuables sell for less.  :|

Someone pointed out that a handful of Oatcakes costs more than what a Gold Watch sells for...

Come on, Rockstar. The value of lootable items should at least be plausible, or its another not-so-subtle headshot to the zombie known as RDO.

Feed your horse apples. Only feed your horse Oatcakes if you're trying to show off in front of poor people.

^^ lol By the current sound of things, I'll probably be looting road apples at the O'Driscoll gang camps and feeding them to my horse and myself.

But I'm trying to avoid eating processed food.

^^ I do. :) I stock up on (and eat, if edible) every plant I find.

Just wish I could import my so-fine collection of plants from Single Player when I launch my Online character tonight. :) At least I know where to look to get them..!

Depends on droprate of treasure maps. They give a bunch of gold nuggets but aside from that, anything else is barely anything in terms of nuggets

Yep, I miss my map markers too, but working on them again in online.

 Worst part:

1. Red Dead has a more mature audience, hence an audience much less inclined to want to purchase gold bars especially after knowing what happened to GTAO (I’m in this category)

2. Nr 1 means less kids asking their parents for money so that they can buy the latest supercar or Oppressor, meaning less money in R*’s pockets

3. Less ”fancy stuff” to buy - we’d pay millions for the latest Pegassi supercar, but might feel more hesitant about the latest Kentucky Saddler or visual upgrades for our guns

All this, combined with the outrageous difference in job income contra the price of in-game items and upgrades means that R* will not make nearly as much money off of Red Dead Online as they have from GTAO

R*’s (or Take Two’s) conclusion will be that Red Dead Online (and the Red Dead franchise overall) is not financially viable and should be discontinued in favor of more lucrative franchises ”that the fans want”.

At least they gave us two absolutely brilliant games.

A discussion on Reddit that the prices are intentionally high so that goodwill is generated when Rockstar "lowers" their prices:

Also, I like how they're calling these "Micahtransactions"

##Original Text below##

The high costs/low earnings and push towards mtx was put out this way on purpose, as basically a way to gauge the reaction to it and see what they could get away with.

People will/and have complained so then they’ll adjust the levels a little bit to make it seem more fair, but really they wanted it at that level all along.

Then they’ll be praised for listening to the community and making things more player friendly, when it was only bumped up to absurd amounts just so their slightly lower absurd amounts seem reasonable.

It’s an old sales tactic, retail stores do a similar thing sometimes, bump prices up before sales go on then the sale just puts the item back at its original price. But it seems like you’re getting a discount. Although I’m pretty sure that’s illegal now.

I guarantee this whole thing was planned out from the start, they knew people would be in an uproar, in fact they had bet on it. They almost definitely have smart people on their financial and marketing team that can predict outcomes to scenarios like this, and it’s one of the few ways they could keep their prices relatively high while still seeming like the good guy that answered the community outcry. This wasn’t some oopsie

Just my theory anyway. I’m only playing online to mess around with a couple friends so I have little interest in grinding or paying them real money.

Edit* it’s probably also part of the reasoning as to why you can’t purchase gold bars atm, because they aren’t supposed to stay at their current value, and they didn’t want to have to issue refunds? Also it’s a beta, but ya

Edit** Btw I didn’t think this was some revolutionary idea, I just lurk a bit and hadn’t seen anyone share it so thought I’d put it out there. Also I’m not trying to attack rockstar here, I love the game and am stoked to see what they come out with for it

##Ends##

Trying to make it more readable.

Yeah, it's BS. R* also puts the price on GTAV UP before a steam sale, so you're like, 'wow, look at that 50% off' when really it's like 25% off etc.

We're all under monetized according to their CEO and investors.

FUTURE TIP for the copy/pasters.

This forum loves to mess with copy paste from other websites and you'll find white background or like above, faded hard to read text.

What I do is copy paste into a word file.

Highlight all the text.

Click 'clear all formatting'  (A symbol with a reddish eraser in the ribbon area)

Now you can copy paste that text back into the forum and it should be fine, no weird text anomalies.

Money really is not that hard to make on here, I mean did you even play the story? Did you just not have any money other than the gold bar money? I made $50.00 in like 10 minutes last night 10 minutes and not some glitch or whatever either and all it cost me was like 1.00$. Some of these kids wouldn't last a day in the wilderness

Played for a few days, can only afford one gun. Want a horse, play for a few more days. Want something worth gold... play for a few months.

This isn't Gen Y not understanding the concept of 'delayed gratification' this is R*/Take Two adopting a free to play level of progression and rewards in a full price game.

Well, at least its semi cosmetic (good guns and horses are worth some bars right?).

I just dont understand why they'd go this f*cking far, the game sold well. 16 hours for a f*cking shirt. Come the f*ck on, who mined oar from the mines for 16 hours, went straight to the general store and purchased a f*cking ladies shirt?

Not very immersive R*. The more I read, the more I dont even wanna start.

Buying honour too, lol.

Yeah, it's gonna be a while until I let that nugget go. ;)

Yep, 100% too and no need for the gold bar glitch either as completeing it sorted me out well. Same with GTA:O, I'm rich, have it all, and it just frees me up to play more crazy sh*t however I want and not care about succeeding as I need the cash or need to buy access to new content. Made the game fun again.

No excusing them reducing the average pay and jacking prices from story on much all while locking stuff behind a ridiculous level of gold to make some things pay to win. (Guns and high end horses IIRC, and yes. Honour, lol).

I know it just looks like a weird option for the hell of it, until you realise story missions are locked behind honour level.

Much more shady than it initially appears.

I'd laugh if off if the game was good for me right now, unfortunately not. :(
