Money rebalancing needed

1. You play modes for fun and to get gold (premium currency) used mostly for cosmetics.

2. Two days after release of beta and you want endgame pistol after playing 10 matches and maybe not even for having good score.

3. Learn how to hunt. I get 16 dollars for 1 perfect animal.

4. Wow, you did first story quest and you're surprised you didn't get 1000$.

5. You pay for ammo you can get in free roam for free. Gang hideouts, dead bodies, abandoned houses and more...

6. You also pay to get health. So hard to do same thing as ammo and it's too hard for you to hunt down 1 small animal and find any campfire to cook it. So hard and grindy.

I guess you also cry about not having money after using quick travel all the time?

Just, wow. Lol. 😂

Played about 4 hours tonight, did half a dozen story missions and some poor hunting. Got $90 in my pocket on top of about $25 worth of miscellaneous purchases.

I feel like maybe some people are overreacting around here...

I'm about 90$ too. Did only enough missions to start playing freely - other than that, I did deathmatches, and sold a perfect deer carcass.

I don't want to come to early conclusions, but it doesn't feel like what some have said. Some people are talking about getting a dollar per mission. Someone I know got over 100$ for a mission ... So, there's some false assumptions being spread.

Again, not going to jump to a positive or negative conclusion yet.

Even if the payouts turn out to be okay, Gold Bars will eventually destroy the game's economy the same way Shark Cards did for GTAO, I guarantee it.

It would seem reasonable that your potential for making money will increase as you progress. It would be pretty lame if people were accessing the best items after 2 days.

I think the OP's mistake was buying a stable slot right off the bat... seems like a pretty unnecessary waste of money at the start. If you're on PS4 you can just discard your first horse and immediately get a free Red Chestnut with decent stats.

It’s not much, the West is a harsh place. Just remember that when you buy a gun, it’s permanent. I would have preferrd guns to be  much cheaper and then be worn down, lost etc. so you have to keep buying guns. But balancing is ok, considering everything you buy is permanent except consumable type stuff.

The fact that mission payout is so low. Bullsh*t

The fact that "gold bars" is required for so many things but are so hard to get and the prices are as much as they should be in regular money. Bullsh*t!

The fact that everything costs as much if not more in 1898 then they do in 2018. Bullsh*t!

If this sh*t isn't fixed soon this WILL be the last damn Crookstar game I EVER buy.

Massively underwhelmed.

And f*ck the payout/price nonsense.

It's like a more expensive, less fun version of story mode.

I'll give it a couple more days but I'm pretty certain I'm not going to touch online after that.

It's as bad as one of those pay to play "free" games ou get for your phone.

You forget that when you buy a gun it is permanent. If the prices were low, the gun should break, get lost, get looted etc. Once you buy a gun it’s permanent.

The gold bars seem innocent enough now because they are mostly only used for cosmetics but that will soon change once they begin to add stuff in, I guarantee it.

It will be around the same time hyper-inflation will begin to take off just like in GTA Online.

If it's this much of a grind at launch, I can only imagine what it will be like a year from now.

Won't somebody please think of the multi-million-dollar corporation?!
How on earth can you defend the shameless price hike from single player to multiplayer? It's the same game, set in the same area, in the same period, with the same core mechanics and gamepley, as the singleplayer game - but weapons cost literally 8-10x more.

Sorry, but video or it didn't happen. (Same for the guys claiming over $500 for a mission)

I've been doing story missions almost exclusively for 3 damned days, and the most I ever got was $11. Most averaged around 5-6.

Are you people not feeding/caring for your horses?!?! Not feeding yourself - or using any consumables - and somehow looting all the ammo you need? Never had your camp despawn or get moved to the opposite side of the map exactly when you need to go to it?? Never had your pelts magically disappear 75% of the time before you got to town? This game is designed to nickle and dime you to death so you're running the treadmill.

Heh. I had a perfect deer too. I made like $3.50 off of it...

Yes, guns are permanent so they’re an investment, that’s true. Don’t have to buy all of them. And in a way, I like it that things are expensive or locked behind rank requirements. But when you’ve played a few missions and gotten 5 dollars for them you sort of start to visualize the huge amount of grind necessary to buy stuff.

@Happy Hunter, if you can; please point me in the way of that $100 mission - not saying I don’t believe you, just saying I’d want that kind of money if it’s out there. ☺️

Also, yeah it’s still early, a lot of things can change and they definitely will and maybe we shouldn’t critizise it too much just yet. I’ll just try and keep enjoying the gameplay together with my friends while first of all I’m going to save up for a consistent posse.

I agree with video proof of the claim of over $500 for a mission but I don't see any reason to doubt what happy hunter is saying. Don't think he's know to be the kind of guy that's know of spreading bullsh*t and I've also only done two missions, sold some low quality pelts and have around &50 myself. Payouts seem to vary from what I've seen but grinding close to 100 hours or whatever to get a gun in each category + a horse is crazy and needs adjusting imo

Highest I got (earned) was $124 and that was from a Treasure Chest. Currently sitting at $500-ish.

I'm not doubting him. I'm doubting the guy who told him that.

It's possible that trade prices are bugged. I'll have to see what happens next perfect anything. Or was that unskinned? I'll sell the pelt and carcass separately (so I get some meat too). Maybe that's what the difference is?  If so, that's one expensive cut of venison. LOL

Are you talking about online? Cause earning $4 a mission, to get $100 is 25 missions. That doesn’t seem quite right to me. ( and that’s not including the daily stable fees and camp fee )

Can you sell your horse and just steal an npc's horse to use for the day or no?

There's a horse selling glitch for single player now with the new patch. Maybe they'll find a way online :)

Heh. I had a perfect deer too. I made like $3.50 off of it...

As you follow the story yourself (as the mission host) you get a one time payout that is quite high and rises with each mission. I'm at about $700 (total money) so far.

You can loot a ton of regular ammo from gang camps and I've found 2 treasure maps from them as well (0.5 - 0.75 of a gold bar and ~$100 from each treasure) That's in addition to the level locked treasure map you get mailed to you

There are decent payouts to be had out there but I still think the economy needs a bit of work...

Don’t think there are any High payout missions, so it’s either bugs or BS. The series pay $5-8 Per game and most missions land around $10.  You have a cattleman and a repeater. For free. Just take your time and you’ll unlock everything. Already now I can see that it will not take me a month and then I have unlocked everything I want except clothing. That $1000 gun isn’t even that good, you’ll do just fine with a double action revolver. Some of the weapons are locked at higher levels too, so that will take some time as well.

I have never understood the term grind as a negative. If you play a game and grind just to get virtual stuff. What then when you’re done? Is the game over or do you not feel it has started prior to you getting all you want? I couldn’t play a game where “grinding” was what I do in the game. I’ve played BDO for some time and that game takes a long time. I lost interrest in it, not because it was time consuming, but because it wasn’t that fun.

In RDO you can take your starter weapons and be perfectly competitive from the moment you join. If the game is fun - play. If it is not - then don’t.

If feedback are to be given to R* I hope it’s more about the fun or lack of fun, rather than the time something takes to unlock.

So you'll need 40 hours to buy a Mauser Pistol? You can't even buy a Bow with that... and I'm not even talking about insuring your horse.

Let me give you an example of overreacting: one of the best rifles / guns in GTA Online is the Special Carbine and it costs in game 14,750 GTA$. If you do ONE deathmatch (10 minutes) like Farmhouse Fracas with a full lobby you'll earn over 30,000 GTA$. See the difference here?

Yeah, I may have gotten a bit pissed too quick, time will tell. I was just miffed I couldn't fish and the public only focus has seen my GTA paranoia follow as I'm always making the minimap big with the d-pad, lol.

Just a bad day at the races. Fresh start but far less expectations. I don't want to write this off but I also an cautious.

Yeah I know, I don’t even want the Mauser pistol myself as I don’t really like it. 😊 I want the Schofield, a Bolt Action Rifle and a Pump Shotty. I really don’t like the Cattleman or the Carbine Repeater much at all, or the DA Revolver either for that matter.

I don’t have a problem with playing the game and save up money to buy the stuff I want. I can stomach a lot of grinding and have done so in the past, and yes most of the time I even enjoy it. By grinding I hereby mean repeating fairly menial tasks over and over.

You say that we should give feedback in terms of fun or lack of fun, instead of the time it takes to unlock certain items, but those things go together for most people. All in all though, I really don’t feel that I have a clear picture of everything yet, so I’ll leave it at that and get back here later tonight.

I do enjoy parts of the game, no doubt about it (especially the PvP elements), so don’t let the criticism fool you into thinking I don’t enjoy the game!

I think the game will evolve over time. Give us more to do, more ways to earn money, but also more options to spend them. Lets say someone really likes this game and want to play it for at least a year (I played RDR1 MP for longer than that), then the time you mist spend to get money and weapons is reasonably limited. If you only want to play the game a month however - then yes, it’s different. I hope R* focus their energy and strategy on the long term.

Re: Weapons are permanent

I'd wondered about weapons wearing out; they obviously need cleaning, but I wasn't sure if they were eventually going to go kaput (even if cleaned), or if they just needed a ton of cleaning or perhaps a repair at a gunsmith shop.

All of those options could exist, actually... providing everything is fair in regards to price and time usage, they could actually help with immersion.

One of the things I didn't/don't like about GTA Online is the lack of realism in regards to weaponry. I do appreciate that about RDR2, and hope it continues in RDO.

Rockstar is undoubtedly happy about all the extra charges, since they act as money sponges... something I think R* is desperate to find and implement in RDO considering its lack of enticing content over the long-term.

Agree with this. Helping thw illusion of a real world where things aren’t permanent and the need to earn money is perpetual.

A big problem is lack of content. Compared to vanilla gta v theres really not much you can buy. But it feels really not good to grind for basic stuff mostly.

^^ In all honesty, Rockstar would do well to focus on making RDO as much of a straight multiplayer 'port' of RDR2 as possible.

RDR2 gets rave reviews--and rightly so; obviously a ton of work went into it. No, it's not perfect (lots of bugs to fix and tweaks needed), but its immersion is Rockstar's biggest selling point in making RDO a long-term winner. It feels far more like a real world than GTA Online ever did.

So far, that immersion has been noticeably hamstrung in RDO, and until it's restored, RDO will lose a significant amount of potential players.

The idea should be to make RDO so good that players WANT to buy some items out of love for the game. Trying to coerce players into microtransactions is the worst possible strategy for long-term sales. Cheating will always happen, but coercion only encourages honest players like myself to want to shaft the process because I feel like I've been shafted. You have to give respect first to gain it.

As a player, if I feel Rockstar is being fair by actually heeding player concerns, including not over-pricing content--and I see evidence of it in their actions (private sessions, switching off player radar blips, etc.), then I'll seriously consider buying something now and then to help that continue.

But if not...
