Probably covered elsewhere, but I was on a building the other day in Blackwater and—if I'm not mistaken—experienced an earthquake. The music went all ominous and the building shook for a few seconds. To be honest, it's the little surprises that keep showing up that make me keep logging on. I even loved when I got rammed a few times by angry wildlife, especially a bison! Fair play, feller.

I also fell in love with one of the prozzies in Valentine. She was the prettiest there, seemed to actually pose for my camera and always looked me right in the eye. Haven't seen her in a few sessions, so I keep looking for her. Little stuff like that is super cool.

The best is running into another player being cool, doing a little impromptu hunting together, sharing skins and stuff and then eventually just waving goodbye. In a harsh world, a little cool can go a long way.

i let let him go and still got my headshot, made me laugh though.

Go to Rathskeller ranch, There is a pair of mountain goats that will ram you

I like the addition of offensive/defensive mode.

It's still not the friendly/pvp/hardcore/private lobby type I'd like. But it has made the game considerably more enjoyable and allows for greater immersion and roleplay.

I like how there's a lot of freeroam missions you can take while in Defensive mode.

My favorite Deadeye card to run defensive mode is Quite The Inspiration III (QTE). It really comes handy if you hate using tonics in PVE.

After coming back from my long ass hiatus, oh boy have things changed.

Right now, I'm digging the extra tack for my horse. Now I'm just frustrated that my horse deserves the best, but I can't afford everything right yet. Hah.

And the defensive/aggressive modes, those are nice.

Interesting will have to give this a shot.

Sidenote:

Always loot saddlebags. I never run out or craft (Potent or Regular tonics anymore). I only craft the Specials.

I can't praise R* enough for bringing poker to the Wild West where it belongs. It's a favorite pastime of mine in this game; besides, most times I come out a little ahead. And  it's really great seeing all the work players put into their characters, which is cool. You don't notice little details out running around as you do up close in a poker game.

I'm full on most consumables just from looting bodies/cabins, but fuuuuuck saddlebags, that sh*t is way too inconsistent for me. Regardless of how long I pat the dumb horse it still feels like a 50/50 chance it'll kick me and then I'll get pissed and shoot it in the face and no more saddlebag looting lol.

If the horse is stomping one hoof or its ears go back... it will kick.

Appreciate the advice but trust me I have tried it all lol, I been playing the game since release but it's super inconsistent for me that I gave up on it and don't bother anymore.

Very strange; I've discovered on my end that as long as I pat the random horse five times (no less), then it will allow me to search the saddlebag.

I've found I can always get the horse calm enough to search the first saddlebag but it seems to be a coin toss for the second. I always try it anyway, if it lets me search, great! If it kicks me, BLAMMO! I don't even feel bad about it anymore, I'm not the one who made things violent 😛

I never search bags anymore. It takes an age to calm them horses and the loot is nothing to brag about either. Not worth the hassle, imo.

I walk out with nothing 99% of the time. I'm a terrible gambler. Doesn't stop me from loving it.

And yeah, I enjoy checking out the fashion tastes of other players at the table too.

I do like how, every so often, a fish will flop out of the water - and you get a "resourceful" bonus for picking up a free catch.

That was handy enough with a bunch of smallmouth bass near Sandy Knee, but today, I was toying with getting in a fight with one of the muskies at Lake Isabella (good grief, it takes ages to tire them out...), and ...one just decided to beach itself at my feet, saving me the trouble. Bless you, suicidal fish - I salute your inexplicable-but-timely sacrifice! :beerhat:

I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but if R* made 'GTAO 2' (i.e., GTA VI's take on GTAO) along the same basic lines as RDO, I'd ...actually be inclined to check it out.

Granted, I reckon GTAO 2 will hit the ground running with war machines and other outlandish nonsense, because that's the defining feature of GTAO, now, and there's always RDO as 'the serious one' (for now, at least...). But imagine GTAO, only with RDO's amount of space and breathing room, where you're not constantly watching people blow each other (and everything else) to smithereens, and everyone can do what they want in a realistic space that hasn't had that sense of verisimilitude destroyed by griefer-tastic gimmicks...

...I'm probably asking too much, aren't I? :sigh:

You're rambling, mate! :D

First thought when entering Los Santos was: "What gosh darned hell hole have I ended up in just yet?" It's the worst. Even before fully spawning in, the XXX killed ZZZ list is endless. The first noises you hear is squeeking kids with heavy explosives on the background. I decided to take the safest way out and hopped on the Opressor MKII. Nice how you are so used to halt your horse with the same button that boosts your Opressor MKII. "Oh, this is where I need to be". BLAAAAST off again. FFS! :D :D

Now, if they would revamp GTA Online to 4K HDR, I might have a look again. Invite Only, of course, so I'd have a trouble free exploring time.

There was one thing I'd be happy to take along with me to RDO, though. That GTA Online bank account looks so much better than the pocket change we have here...... $130mln or $1786,14..... yeah, tough choice there :D

GTAO has never felt like you're playing a character in a living world since the first few months of it's launch, it's been pure video gamey PvP for a long time now, we still don't even have animals. RDO's lacking content but it does capture the feeling of playing a character, an outlaw, that's slowly progressing in a living open world a lot, lot better than GTAO does. Hopefully if they hit the right notes with the summer update roleplay-y roles that'll go even further.

Rockstar could and would learn a lot from watching the GTA roleplay that's been booming on Twitch for months now. I'm not saying we need to go full in on that stuff, but certainly look at how intense and enjoyable more grounded and realistic PvP situations are for the people playing and watching. Less pew pew laser flying bullsh*t and more bang bang shootouts in the hood and cops vs robbers stuff.

See, a few months in, I learned of the joy of Invite Only sessions, and then largely played GTAO like a kind of 'GTA Career Mode', with the whole thing feeling almost like GTA III structure-wise, but with custom characters, and all the bells and whistles of GTA V to play with. Still miss the state of the game from 2013 to mid-2015 - might have had less stuff than now, but the quality of the experience and tonal consistency were miles better than where things went since then, IMO.

...but the problem there is obvious: GTAO played best for PvE-first players like me by ...ignoring the 'main' way to play (regular public sessions). I know that Beslie Lenzies said that hand-picking any and all players in a session (or none, even) was a totally valid way to play, but it does feel like having to work around the intended experience to a certain degree all the same.

Meanwhile, with Defensive Mode, and the mixture of a huge, harder-to-traverse map and less freedom to move around (no aircraft, after all!), I've had no issues playing in public sessions, even as someone who also treats RDO as a solo PvE game. My average interaction with another player (outside co-op story missions) is on a par with some random NPC on horseback - we'll ride past each other, and once in a while, either one of us will wave... :p

Come to think of it, R* can probably call it a success when it's often hard to tell other players apart from AI-controlled townsfolk - it's a far cry from GTAO, where it's very obvious which people are player-controlled characters (look for the red eyes, tactical gear, and the endless sound of explosions... :*()!

Well, the first glance at GTA V was one of absolute awe, I have to admit. The city really felt alive a lot, with the npc's conversations in all their varieties (I'm sure I haven't heard all of them yet), and for a 2013 game, it was just about all you could wish for. Nowadays, it's quite a lot of crap going on in the online version of San Andreas. I've been in GTA Online from day 1 as well as in RDO. GTA Online couldn't be more different from the story game, whereas RDO kind of feels like it's extending the story mode.

I sure hope Rockstar will take it far into the RP world. Not because I'm a huge fan of it, but from experience, you can't find any more friendly players than RP players. Residing in a game world full of that type of player is heaven for a lonewolf.

But yeah, flying wagons and rocket shooting horses and I'm out :D

Oh, I do hope they steer clear from that path for sure. I was afraid they would tread on it already, with all the PvP modes and the few PvE modes in the game. But with the summer update, I think they will not as much. I really hope they'll move more towards PvE/RP.

There was an apparent leak with listings for everything from carriages and chuckwagons, to gatling chuckwagons and war wagons - that sounds like they might be coming, although it depends how accurate/legit that leak actually is (it also hinted at player-owned properties of some sort, which also aren't currently in the game).

Granted, a war wagon doesn't have quite the same griefing potential as even the Rhino did in GTAO (possibly unpopular opinion: I think letting players own Rhinos and Buzzards, and steal Lazers, in GTAO was a mistake from the start), because you can't have one person move around faster than a player on foot, and blow up things in seconds - although it doesn't stop posses from making sessions unbearable. And like the Rhino in GTAO, it's arguably the thin end of the wedge, isn't it?

Would that sh*t hit the RDO fan and no invite only sessions are implemented, it'll be all the nails in RDO's coffin at once for me. But, I don't think they'll make the same mistake twice. On the other hand, this still is Rockstar we're talking about.....

Random encounters really helps freeroam move away from being a Horse Riding For Ages And Then You Get Shot simulator.

Scarlet and I got sidetracked - twice - on my way to the cabin i'm currently calling home up on Roanoke Ridge. No "surprise" ambush missions like literally everything in GTAO. It felt good.

Then I went down to my usual fishing spot to hear NPC voices shouting - turns out there was a camp on the riverbanks being attacked by some other NPCs. We made a dash for the camp and helped defend the NPC folks inside it from bandits circling on horses, which lasted a good amount of time - before I finally moved upstream and did some fishing.

Hands down the best experience of RDO I've had to date... for an honorable character it's nice to help folks out and be rewarded for it. I hope this is what the future of RDO looks like because if it is, I'll be sticking around.

I was imagining a version of GTAO where R* added the similar spontaneous encounters from GTA V - but those are largely bag-snatchers, and even though GTAO has players working as government agents, or running various legitimate entertainment companies, we're still technically 'criminals', so that's out of the question. :sigh:

That's something encouraging about how RDO is shaping up, too - for all I still reckon it was a misstep to have everyone be treated like a criminal from the outset like in GTAO, it's good that the game proper doesn't railroad players into all being stereotypical outlaws. Same reason why I'm looking forward to the new role-specific stuff, particularly considering the roles already shown so far - if they just had 'bandit' and 'gunslinger', that'd just be two sides of the same coin, but actually letting players be dedicated trappers/hunters shows that they're aiming at letting players be more in this setting than merely 'person wot lives outside of the law and just shoots and steals stuff', like an old-west GTA.

...come to think of it, I hope that part of the new update really takes off, and R* takes notice - imagine the next GTAO letting people be more than just 'criminal', and instead things like 'private security', 'hired courier', 'street racer', etc., using a similar system. Once again, I really shouldn't start getting my hopes up, should I? :p
