I dont know if its on purpose with set spawn points but every time I log into RDO its a screenshot moment. The direction I am facing either has beautiful God Rays or its a spectacular vista.

It's a small thing, but I like that the Social Club page makes a copy of your mugshot when you exit character creation.

I redid the whole thing several times (in order to get the whistle settings the way I wanted them), and managed to take a console screenshot of the mugshot photo every time ...except the final one, when I'd gotten everything just so. Yeah, I could have just saved one of the earlier ones (the only differences between those and the final version of my character were the numbers on the photos, and I think I might have used a slightly different "mood" setting to begin with), but it's not the same, dammit! :p

As it turned out, I've got a permanent copy of the final version saved on my Social Club overview page. Thanks, whoever it was at R* who came up with that bright idea! :^: :cookie:

Character creator is not good, but compared to the one in GTAO- its great.

You cant create the very character you envisioned, but with a bit of tinkering- you can get close. Women have realistic bodies, unlike GTAO where they look like someone going through a sex change, theres different body types that can change depending of your diet/lifestyle.

No matter how many times something gets played out that I've been doing, I always find something else to take its place.

Recently, I joined in with a gang that was shooting up Blackwater. I walked into the fray, picked up a dead lawman, and dumped him onto the bar. Others started doing the same, like tallying up the kills. Eventually, I'd gained their trust and started in. The cops kept coming, and we kept putting them down. The massacre lasted a good half hour at least. It was cover your PC buddies, and fill your boots with loot. Just total lawlessness with hell reigning down from the rooftops. Eventually, the d*ckbags had had enough and shot me before logging off — fair, to a point — and I rode out of town with the law on my heels and a $19 bounty that only just got collected yesterday when I zagged when I should have zigged.

The joys of outlawing are so much richer than in GTA, and no one was griefed.

Clothes and hair have physics. I don't think GTAO will ever have that unless we get GTAO2 with GTA6.

Also this is the only game that still blows my mind every time I login, Its just so beautiful and calm unlike GTAO

The fact that characters in this game can have different body types and actual facial hair unlike GTAO. And I enjoy the free mode pvp in this game 1000x more since you can actually escape fights and not get spawn camped by a bloody military jet.

I'm thankful that the issue of losing your pelts and animal carcasses when using Fast Travel has been fixed.

Was a pleasant surprise recently when I thought I would try it and see.

Either call off or hitch  your horse before using the travel post, your pelts/carcasses degrade when fast travelling.

I decided to log in last night after a few weeks away from the game to get my Carcano Rifle and cash in a few treasure maps. I started off near Blackwater and it turned out the chest was all the way in Blue Water Marsh. My first instinct was to fast travel but I thought no, let me throw on the HDR mode and make the trip the ol' fashioned way. So I rode over there and man was I reminded just how beautiful and immersive this game is. On top of that, I had a totally peaceful ride all the way over despite running into a couple of players who just minded their own business.

My trip started with a clear night sky with beautiful moonlight beaming down and lighting up the hills and rocks with an eerie glow. It didn't last long though as a heavy fog moved in around midnight and visibility really died with the HDR lighting system on. Quite a contrast from the standard graphics. By the time I got to the dried up creek bed by Rhodes it was morning, and I had to just stop for a minute to appreciate the sunrise. Managed to bag a 3 star Deer so it was off to Rhodes to cash in and pick up my Carcano rifle. As I rode in, I noticed it was pretty empty and chalked this up to just an online lag thing. I did my business with the gunsmith and came about about 9am and was amazed again by this game as a ton of NPCs rolled into town and what was a completely dead street early in the morning was full of life. People strolling around, carts rolling up and down the street, dudes hanging out smoking by the General Store, Etc. I've got to say that despite how wonky the HDR is in this game, it's awesome during the daytime with the right settings.

I proceeded on my way to the the Blue Water Marsh enjoying the clear blue day and as day turned to evening, I picked up my chest goods and stopped by the bait shop while the sun went down. Again, the lighting of that entire area was just amazing. I decide to end my trip by cruising down to St. Denis. It was now night and I marveled at how easy it was to get there just by looking for the city lights on the horizon. This whole trip I barely looked at the map and just calmly rode using the environment and my own memory as a guide. I eventually got into the city at night and again marveled at how different everything here looked with the electrical lamps lining the streets, lighting up the slight fogginess that rolled into the area. I hitched my horse up outside the tavern, went in for a shot, and sat down for a quick poker game. Man, this game is something sometimes.

That got a little long winded, but I just want to say that I probably had my best online sesh last night without firing a single shot at another player nor being fired upon by anyone. Just wanted to give my appreciation for the game. The HDR is pretty cool too, but a little wonky during the night. I have no idea if that's the game or my HDR tv though. The days look freaking AMAZING. I have to say if this is how RDRO is gonna be moving forward, I'll be putting in a lot more time. For all the faults this game has, It's gets a lot of the important things totally right. Also, I'll probably never fast travel again, lol.

I started a mission where I had to kidnap a woman who was wearing a wedding dress (no kidding) and I just refused to do it, I felt bad about her.

In online? Who was the mission giver?

Sounds like the paid killing given by Anthony in Saint Denis.

Hi, the one I wrote about was given by Bray Aberdeen. There are 2 more weird missions I've found, besides of the Bray's one:

1. One given by Anthony Foreman in Saint Denis, where you have to kill everyone during a wedding:

2. And also another one given by someone I can't remember where you have to save a woman hogtied on train tracks.

I think there is one rare mission for each NPC (most of them yet to be found), which is really interesting.

I think those missions are like in GTA Online, where you have to complete 600 bunker refills to be able to unlock the alien mission Easter egg. Only that in Red Dead Online I "only" had to do 340 stranger missions to unlock these 3 variants.

No matter how many times I do it, I still stop to pet a dog. It improves my mood every time.

Maybe one day we'll be able to scritch a kitty.

It's the game in HDR.  For me on the PS pro the fog is killer, very annoying and hard to see anywhere.  On my PS Slim, the fog still sucks, but not as bad.  The nights are really dark and hard to see on the slim, but the opposite on the pro.  I play mostly on the pro, I deal with the fog because other than that, the world is beautiful

I only got the wedding mission once. It was actually my first mission from Anthony. I wonder if there are special prerequisites to get these special missions to start?

Sorry for the double post but I need to confess something I really love about Red Dead Online. The way players influence the world around them is really cool. I've seen a video of a gunfight happening in the distance in Blackwater and some NPCs that were stationed nearby kept looking in the direction of the gunfire in curiosity and actually flinched with each shot fired.

Also, the way that you can have some fun little stories happen because of players is pretty fun. This one time, I was exiting out of Rhodes and heading north towards Valentine. On the way, I noticed a wagon off the road with the horses freed and running in the wild. Further down the path, I saw a dead stranger on the ground and started hearing gunfire in the distance. A few more trots later and I see a player with lawmen after them. From what I could piece together, the player shot a wagon driver, robbed it, crashed it into a rock or something, called their horse and was now escaping from the law. It was legit visual storytelling, like a random encounter you'd see in a singleplayer game.

There's also the many times I've entered Valentine and Tumbleweed and seeing the multiple corpses on the ground of dead NPCs. And just recently, on my last session, I heard a player hunting in the distance near Van Horn. While following the gunfire, an NPC zoomed past on their horse, spooked by the shooting.

This is exactly what I want in an online game. Random events triggered by players merely doing their thing without breaking your immersion in the world. I can only hope Rockstar keeps going down this path. This is what makes RDO unique to me.

Good to know it's not my TV at least 😀 I figured as much cuz I played AC Odessey and GOW in HDR and everything was fine. I recently upgraded to a Pro, and while I enjoy the HDR for screenshots and views and whatnot, I now just keep it standard when playing vs modes. The game looks great without the HDR on Pro anyway.

Yeah, the fog was also a bit much with HDR but I guess it's realistic that you can't see a thing! The problem is that the foggy weather comes around so often it gets super annoying as you said. I just hit up HDR when roaming around and turn it off for showdowns and missions.

HDR in this game isn't that good, imo. There is quite a difference from the HDR in AC Odyssey. I play both these games on a Pro and think the Odyssey HDR is better.

RDR HDR tones down colours to a more realistic level, but also feels it blurs details a bit more.

Yeah, from what I read they tacked on the HDR after the fact, so it's not true HDR. This here is the article from Forbes I read about it:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarcher/2019/05/14/the-red-dead-redemption-2-hdr-fix-is-here-but-it-doesnt-really-work/#376367d71cf5

I think with the right settings the daytime hours look great, but night is just a mess in general.

With some fog, dustclouds or slashing rains, you can see f*ck all. Great looking world, but with the every day occuring weather-, and environmental dynamics, you see half of it.

I only have HDR turned on for pretty daylight pictures.

Seems the animals are fighting back even more, now. I got absolutely creamed by a bull elk the other day. Sent me flying about 20 feet and off he went. Of course, I tracked him down and killed him and continued to kill every bull elk I could find for another half hour but I've now been rammed by an elk, a goat, a white tail buck, bit by a muskrat and a snake, and I'm just waiting to be sh*t on by a bird. Well played, R*, well played.

Griefing has been at an all-time low for me, lately. I load the game, switch into defensive, and simply go where I want to go and do what I want to do – even riding near a gunfight between other players and enjoying the entertainment. No one is picking me off "just because".

Well, almost no one. But it was cool, too. I ride into Blackwater and someone is getting charges pressed against them over and over. I ride by generally because I was going that way and I get shot and killed. I head back after spawning, head shot the guy and ride off to do my business. He follows me, shooting. I dismount and shotgun him. And just as I'm mounting one of the other players rides in as he was in pursuit, sees I've killed him, and waves. Then he rides off. I could get used to this kind of neighborly cooperation.

At first, I thought defensive mode was a shackle to my gameplay; a necessary evil to catch a fish in peace. But it's opened the game for me, now. For the most part, I can ride up to folks and interact and in a game where you can simulate life with no real home or family, that gets to be kinda important. Just that I can genuinely feel that makes this a special game, indeed.

Not to spoil anyone's freeroam fun, but I was sort of pleasantly surprised by a NPC's request for help that turned out to be...something else. ;)

Will leave it at that.

Some of the added or changed ambient music is pretty darn dope. Was being hunted for my 17$ bounty right after log in, it got very hectic 😁 but the music made it amazing.

Really digging this update. It has few hiccups; with that being said, a pretty solid effort and very entertaining.
