It's stupid;

I participated in ONE FR event; The one where you need to keep control of a randomly selected horse.

It was basically an endless spawn kill fest between 20 players. Like even when you respawn and are nowhere near the damn horse some c*nt shoots you dead rather than want to conserve health until we catch up

There was a mastery Archer event where players had to race through Strawberry (the town chosen for this event)  to hit the archery targets. I bet you can guess what everyone spent their time doing... I hated it because willing participants couldn''t do the actual activity. Don't even try to hid in a spot and shoot targets away from people. They go out of their way to find you and not do what the intended goal is. Rockstar really should take out the PVP aspect of these events so people will actually do them.

this sounds so dumd. why is rockstar doing such a sh*t? that griefing destroys everything, every free roam freedom is taken. no fishing no hunting, no slow gameplay, even just a chilled rideout with the gang is not possible. nothing but constantly defending/killing is possible atm

Thats sadly the point... R* wants griefers and trolls (and unbalanced gameplay) in their games, they are using them as free working force. This ensures that grinding is impossible and that directly translates to micro transaction sales.

This worked rly well for them in gtaonline. RDRO will be exactly the same...

It's going to be weird for me to say such a thing.... but i think it's time for r* to grow up..

They obviously proven they can make a mature game that isn't about being some gangster wannabe with no morals...now they need to show that they can make a mature online experience

Spotting in any game should be the only option, if anything.

It was bad in GTAV & they only catered to the griefers. Making the game unbearable to play free roam.

Its only slightly better now but still entirely idiotic. If I've not visibly seen you, I would rather not be checking my map to see what a dots intentions are every minute but I will...because people are toxic & I know its inevitable I'll be shot for being simply another dot.

I don’t have a problem with it. It’s a self preservation tool as far as I’m concerned, just like in GTAO.

I finished the intro, rode to Valentine and the three dots shooting the hell out of the town made a bee-line straight for me. I rushed into the gun shop and watched out the window as they gunned down the next two players to ride into town.

Long story short: If you ride straight at me in complete silence when I’m minding my own business, I will be in cover by the time you get to me and I will kill you.

The least that can be done is for rockstar to let players have the option to turn thier own blips off and for those that want it on can leave it on.

But I assure you that if hiding your own blip was an option everyone would turn theirs off even PvP players. Because being seen will make them a sitting duck.

Without Free Aim it's all a joke to me. Also think having all players blipped is rather stupid as well, should know most players just want to PK/DM all the time, there will be little to no PVE cooperation or interaction outside of violence. I doubt anyone has had a stranger come up and challenge them to a horse race, or who can shoot a bottle the quickest or w/e. It's always the same shoot on sight random deathmatch open world crap. Being that everyone is going to play like an arse and have negative honor, I hope the 1/8th of the online community that chooses to not to kill for no reason and wants high honor gets some kind of reward. High Honor players should get rewards for killing low honor criminals, get player bounties, etc. There needs to be a " lawman " or " law enforcement " system at play here to stop people from going on mass murdering sprees. Whether it's AI or Players or a mix of the two, figure it out. Because grieving reports and all that are overflowing and we have just gotten started.

Wow, nice to see others who like this type of playing. Seen some poor bastard on Reddit mention this, those boys jumped on him like rabid cyotes. "It's a MP game, why wouldn't you want to be able to know where everyone is? "

And now my fears have come true. Saw a group of dudes, went to say hello; horse and I both were swiftly shot in our heads.

Wouldn't be so bad, if people had to actually aim. Maybe I would have had a chance. Sucks, RDO is exactly how I'd not want it to be already, more like a GTAO prequel, than an extension of the amazingly immersible world they built for single player game.

It's really crazy to me, the game goes all in on realism, and people love that aspect, so they choose take all of that away for online. Can't say hello to people or NPCs. Can't grow your hair. Can't go fishing without worrying you'll be shot in the back of the head. At this point, just to not be constantly grieved, you'd have to go into a custom match, and then what's the point? Might as well just play the more robust singleplayer some more.

First world problems, eh?

I'm very disappointed with the blips and "aimbot" on RDR2, I feel your pain.

There's still a chance that we'll get free aim lobbies and then all we'll have to worry about are the blips, but at least then we'll have a fair chance in fighting back. It would be amazing if they'd introduce a "Hardcore" mode with no blips and no auto aim.

How the f are people having fun in adversary modes with blips and auto aim? Lol

It's just a bunch of people running around with a shotty looking at their mini map and hoping to lock on first to get the kill.

No skill or tactics involved. Just look on the map for the closest enemy, lock on first, and repeat.

I was going to post a long thread about this on Reddit but I know they'd eat me alive.

Yeah man, I hear ya. Reddit is a strange part of the web. Like one giant hive mind, lol.

They say the downvotes on Reddit are not for when you disagree with a topic, but that's a lie. It's to push the hive mind mentality. Condition and control. If the upvote/downvote system really was for the mods to have some indication, that a topic may be off-topic or offensive, then only mods would be able to see the votes. Of course, this type of critical thinking is frowned upon on Reddit, lol.

But back to RDO, we might not even get true free aim lobbies. I'm pretty sure in GTAO, they lump together the true free aim and the assisted free aim, on the same servers.

The lock-on aiming is so boring, I don't know honestly how anyone enjoys it. I can be fun against a dozen NPCs, but against real players? No thanks.

Maybe it would be better if the lock on only moved your aim close to the target, and not on it? And for the blips, maybe better if we can see them on the map, unless you get within a certain range, then they disappear. I know people have suggested the opposite, but this would be nice in that you'd know there are people in the Grizzlies, say, but if you went their to hunt them down, you couldn't be lead right to them. Just some ideas.

Had much higher hopes for this, but as of now, it looks like RDO is way too much like GTAO. Even the most annoying thing about GTAO, is here; after any mission, I am just dropped back into a server with no other players. I can't believe how much of GTAO's lame features made it into RDO. Probably won't be long now until we see greifers with armored covered wagons sporting miniguns, and some type of cast-iron-man-pan armor suits.

Sorry, was responding to Free21.  I'm a noob, tried to quote him but didn't work.

Haven't played online yet, but I take it there is no passive mode like in GTAO? I can't imagine they won't add that if it's not in there already. Maybe it's just not available for the early Beta phase. Not that it solves the issue with the blips, but at least that allows you to ride in peace. Used it all the time in GTAO when I wanted to just drive around.

I played yesterday and couldn't find a passive option. Your only safe at your camp currently if you have the white flag up. Hopefully R* adds a passive mode to RDO as it's annoying when your minding your own business and some idiot kills you for no reason.

I like the changes, its because of that radar why some free roam fights never end. You could kill a player in self-defense, then leave and try to go about your business. Due to how petty many players are they will chase you across the four corners of the map, and your location always being broadcasted to him lets him do just that. Being invisible on his map once you get so far away enables you to get out of battles with other players that do not involve switching on something like passive mode. Player visibility on your radar based on their proximity to you is one of the better changes from Gta Online in my opinion, looks like Rockstar did learn a few things.

I can finally just kill a player in self-defense and go off to do my own thing again without being dragged into a free roam battle that lasts an hour cause the player refuses to just leave me alone. I can just leave and his odds of finding me are slim to none. It will make griefing and spawn killing a harder thing to pull off, since you cannot let the player get too far away or you will lose them. Such an improvement is always welcome in my book.

It also shows that Rockstar still doesn't give a rat's a** about actually testing game play in public sessions. Because they know their limited concepts of "game play" will be chewed up and spit out as happens to everyone else. DICE devs had to learn that lesson in BF3 public servers as well.

Their sad attempts at QA are limited to their own cute little dev bubbles, which has zero bearing on real game play for their player base.

Here's another idea for the blips, I got this from Reddit. Guy who made the post has a lame name that I won't use here, but he got the idea from others anyways, he said.  So, not sure who to credit, but it's a pretty good idea.

The idea is as follows; Players with high honor, with not show up on the radar unless firing a weapon. Players with low honor, they show on the radar at all times.

I think it's a pretty solid way to make people think twice before being an ass.

I don't wanna have to only play in private servers. I like being in the map with strangers, I just don't like having a giant target on me for them to hunt me down.

Oh, the Reddit guy also said he submitted this idea to R*.

I would like it if it actually worked. Only person that has killed me didn't show up on the mini map at all.

Really? Has anyone noticed if maybe you don't show on the radar, if you're crouching? I will try later but I think you still do.

Hopefully they will add Hardcore/Free aim lobbies like the first one. I hate auto aim and that blips are visible. But patience will hopefully bring this mode into RD2:Online.

But we may never get a true free aim server. In GTAO, they lump the free aimers in with people who use free aim assisted. Just not fun at all for me, this lock on crap.

The lock on isn't even consistent. Sometimes it goes right on them and it's an easy shot. Other times it waves around like a drunk is trying to aim. Seriously, how did anyone's character, live this long in the west when they can't even hold a rifle steady?

If your dead-eye core is low your aim is off with rifles and pistols.

If your stamina core is low, you get the same effect with the bow.

Least that is how it works in story mode.

Oh man, didn't even know that. Thanks. Guess I had enough items in SP to never notice. In online, finding a half used pack of cocaine gum, is a good day for me.

There is no logic or reason to have everyone marked on the map at all times.  It is a griefer's tool, to pinpoint other players, usually lone ones, and just kill them for no reason.  Coming across other players online should be completely by chance.  Sure, if you're friends, then that's fine, but not strangers.  Being marked on map and radar all the time completely removes the ability to sneak up or sneak past other players.  As for bounty hunting other players, you should have to work for it by looking for clues or checking posters.  What fun is there to hunt a bounty by rushing to their blip on the radar?

Rockstar need to change this.  They won't of course, but they should.  The only ones in disagreement are those wanting to grief.

They should just keep it faithful to RDR1 where your blip only becomes visible when you fire a shot, that way people have some idea where the action is but you can't pinpoint precisely where they are. The most fun I ever had in RDR1 online was sneaking around and ambushing other posses since you were actually able to traverse the map and hide without every retard in the lobby knowing exactly where you are at all times.

Exactly this.

Basically, the only time you should show on the map is when you're being incredibly noisy or starting trouble.

Havn't been able to get on with finals coming up and stuff. Has anyone tested if sneaking makes you hidden? If not, then what is even the point of using a bow outside hunting ,or pve if even that works?

Hey, why does everyone keep talking about needing the bow to hunt? What good is that; doesn't every species need to be shot with a certain weapon for a clean pelt?

Also, I will check about the couching later tonight. I really just have no desire to play online anymore. Guess I had this built up too much in my head. So that's on me. I thought they would expand upon the SP ideas. Make it realistic. Right now, it's just like people were calling before release, another GTAO.

Thinking I may be done with gaming. Been a long time coming. Pick your poison, devs. Is your game a full priced $60 title, or is it F2P with MTX? This trying to have your cake, and eat it too (not sure what else you'd do with cake, but idioms FTW), is killing the industry.

I don't mind being on the map if it means I can keep tabs on what everyone else is up to (and stay away from them).

No, A bow (with the correct arrows) will get a clean pelt on any animal (that I have killed so far in story mode). It's also quiet and doesn't scare away other animals in the area.

It's also great in PvP.

^^ And Story Mode when taking out Bounty Hunters; I've never had quite so much fun--can do that for days with a nice location I found. :)

I will have a notably better attitude toward RDO if Rockstar at least addresses the free aim and radar blips issues.

The payouts too; but one thing at a time. :)

^^ I suspect this has more to do with visibility to NPCs (i.e. Story Mode), rather than human players in Online; just my guess though.

You can be crouching in a thick bush, but it won't do much good with your player name floating above your head. lol
