Came back for a few days to get some bounty hunting, trading and moonshining done. Been a few months since I've been on.

See that flea infested mongrel on the far side with the barrel? The one Frita and her dog are watching? That's our founding camp employee Cripps, stuffin the hundredth percent of pristine animal parts into a load.

We used 100% bayou animal parts that are primarily never blasted with bullets, unless they are very big gators. SO YA KNOW IT'S GONNA BE GOOD

I used a free character appearance voucher that was available (I finally ended up using it) and tried my best to make Klaus Kinski. I was in the custom screen for at least two hours trying to at least make a good attempt.

After failing to be able to live up to the life of an "outlaw" Ruvik has turned to looking for an honest paying job at a mill. But the doors were closed and there seemed to be nobody inside, so he moved on.

This is just a pretty storm rolling on through. 

 

Seems the game is so dead that player horses are just falling where they stand due to boredom... 

 

Seriously we rode by three player horses that were standing with their heads down and that would collapse dead right as we came close? It was so weird and horribly traumatic for a horse lover like myself..

But I did run into a few players today and we did help each other out for a bit before we all went our separate ways, so it wasn't such a bad day after not logging on for a few months.

Finally posting again since ages ago. 

Gave up the dark skin color that most use for native characters, because it just does not look like native american skin tone at all, and instead tried to fake a "red facepaint" by choosing the pale color option no 2 and then put the sun burnt on both complexions 1 and 2 to 100% and some other red option to cover the paleness under nose/top lip to make a full red paint look. It leaves empty stripes under eyes that kind of look like white paint when using the palest skin option.

It looks pretty good and convincing when using these clothing but problem with this thing is that now i need to always wear cloves, long sleaves, bandanna to hide the palenes of other body parts.

They should add more skin color options to the character creator. There is no skin color option for native american character.

Using the Mr Cripps bear hat and caiyuka hat or what ever it was called.

He is not based on some specific native american nation, but more of some fictive rdr world tribe compination of real tribes. But I had Crow people, Cheyenne and Blackfoot on my mind when I created him.

He looks great, and I like how you chose a different way of getting the skin tone down instead of just using the default as it worked out well.

I think the biggest reason is that most of the bases we have to work with start off looking like bad caricatures of Old West cartoons. And it is rather difficult and can be time consuming to work that ugly thing into something that can be seen as even somewhat attractive, so everyone typically picks the same somewhat attractive original base and builds their characters off of that.

Many are also probably kind of intimidated by the idea of using the rough skin, the blemishes, and even odd slider adjustments because they feel that those are to roughen up the character and not add personality and shading to enhance the look.

This is more relevant for players who make the female characters over the men, mainly I believe, because they want a younger looking more sophisticated gal and not a grizzled looking mama bear who has lived a rough life.

I understand their reasoning,  and I've helped a few players get a decent look out of their characters. Funny thing is that most of them ended up using one of the bases that they thought were so ugly that they wanted to avoid them all together. I told them to trust me, and they did.

 

Personally for mine I didn't want to make another Arthur or John, and I didn't want a Clint Eastwood type of gunslinger.  Keeping with R* tradition and since there are a few actors and famous cowboys that were in westerns back in the day that had a soft look I wanted to use them as inspiration. That and because I had a huge crush on Emilio Esteves back in the day in Young Guns I wanted to go with a type of look that one doesn't typically connect with the rough outlaw.

I figured many online players would be male, and if they made a male character they would want someone that looks like a bad ass.

My poor guy doesn't look like a bad ass until they are laying in the dirt with a boot on their neck and a gun in their face.

 

Honestly the characters in the game are probably a light representation of what that character actually looks like in many players' minds, I would have hoped that R* could have given us better options, or just one base that we could sculpt on our own without the limits of their atrocious bases.
