Will Rockstar abandon Singleplayer because of Online again?

Don't get me wrong, I love RDR2 and it's one of my favourite games of this generation. But now that RDR2 Online is releasing soon, I fear Rockstar will just abandon the SP in favour of it which would be a shame. We need some quality story DLC.

Hell we haven't even gotten a patch after a month..seems like Rockstar was busy with working on Online

It's definitely possible unfortunately. But hopefully since Rockstar is learning from past mistakes such as staggering the online release maybe they will. I really want them to add dlc weapons to singleplayer just like gta v got in earlier updates. Would an RDR1 remake suffice?

Its been a month now and there hasn’t even been a single patch, I think that’s where the answer lies. It will be all about the Online again unfortunately... we will be lucky to get a patch at all to iron out some of the bugs. SP DLC?! Nah, it won’t happen.

One thing that would say a lot is if some features that are actually wanted for the SP right now would already be in the (beta) online.

Agreed and most likely that’s exactly what’s gonna happen.

If Rockstar can’t be arsed to release a patch for the SP, then at least I hope they would let the new guns/optimisations etc come to the SP as well and not be limited to online only. That’s my biggest concern. I can even live with the current buggy mess that is RDR2 as long as R* releases some new content for SP in the future...

I will be very dissappointed if no SP DLC comes. It will be such a shame. So much potential would be wasted. Also a bit dissapointed no patch released. I very much love this game. But come on sh*t needs to be fixed.

I hope we do; I have a hard time seeing Mexico being created solely for Online. And quite frankly I don't see Online raking in GTA Online money. Kids aren't attracted to RDR cause it's more mature.... and kids are about 80% of shark card sales

A Mexico DLC would be very profitable for them; A new location for Online and single player, and a new campaign

And a Undead Nightmare could add new modes to MP. And special horses/weapons only available if you buy the DLC

If they can patch the camp bug for others and the beard growth I can live without more singleplayer if I really have to. Let us have gun load outs that dont change too. Praying to the rockstar overlords for one big sp patch

Wouldn't go that far, it's not a buggy "mess" (especially for such a big game) but some things definitely should be improved. I hope we get a patch tomorrow when Online releases

Probably depends on how well Online does. Not sure if it was ever confirmed or not, but I think I read once that GTA V had DLC planned, but it was scrapped in favor of Online getting more focus.

That being said, if RDR2 doesn't get any DLC, I won't be too upset. I mean, don't get me wrong, I would be more than pleased if we got any, but the game on its own is so complete and perfect that any additions would be icing on the cake, so to speak. It's not like V, where they forgot necessary ingredients. I don't wanna hate on GTA V, because it was a fun enough game and one I looked forward to for a very long time, but to me it felt very incomplete and left a lot of room for stuff that just didn't materialize in the end; it needed DLC and just never got it. Just as one example, I felt like with V's story we never really got to know anybody other than the main three, with everyone else not developing much or developing very abruptly. You had some instances of that in RDR2, though overall I feel like it did a lot more with its supporting cast. True, it had the camp interaction to help with that, but still, by the end I felt like I knew all of the gang members and a lot of the ones outside of the gang as well.

I think RDR2 is more likely to get single player DLC than V ever was though. Most of the people who bought GTA V bought it knowing they'd probably sink a lot of time in the online when it finally came out. The sort of mayhem that was used as an advertising point for it is what a lot of people had been doing in GTA for years, and now they were finally going to be able to do it with tons of other people. On the other side of the coin, Red Dead is a more story driven experience and it attracts the sort of market that likes story oriented games, so I don't know how many people who bought RDR2 are going to be looking at Online as a long term money/time sink. A lot of them will definitely play it but that doesn't mean they'll sink tons of money into whatever R* spits out. Plus GTAO is still getting updates, so I don't think there will be a ton of crossover or people jumping ship to RDRO. With that in mind, we have to consider R* might not want to compete with itself.

Basically, if you want story DLC, you probably want RDRO to fail 😛

I really cannot get my head around why games companies, especially big ones such as Rockstar, don't release more stuff for single player.

It literally makes zero sense why they wouldn't....I mean, they wanna make more money, and they could if they did cater for both PVE and PVP groups.

Bad business planning.

And for the love of God, add more options to games...you'll sell more copies....it ain't rocket science.

Ok, maybe not a buggy mess, but definitely the most bugs I have ever encountered in a Rockstar game

I hope not. They surprised everybody by actually making a great SP campaign so they can surprise everybody again. EFLC might not have sold well but Undead Nightmare sold better so it could happen.

On the fence.

I'm sure the focus is online, fully.

But if online shows to not draw like they anticipate, then comes the paid DLC, possibly.

I'd like to see some more come, but I do believe GTA:O just earned so much money for such a sustained period, and still is really. Can't ignore that.

Did you play GTA:O?

Anyone that did, will disagree I feel.

The dedication to the singleplayer storyline that R* puts into all games is unmatched.

Part of the reason we have such an engrossing story is because of the enormous success of GTAO.

Many ITT could stand to check themselves.

I get that, but R* made GTA:O and it's a sh*t show of unattended bugs.

Much criticism of it too.

Valid criticism, but it was mostly just stuff that had to do with the online nature of the game.

These larger-scale Singleplayer issues are a bit more worrying to me. Especially the missing camp members. It's a pretty big thing to miss, considering the glitch happens at the very beginning of the second chapter of the entire game. Can you imagine if Michael's family just disappeared from GTA V, right after you're introduced to him? So you don't get to see them at all in his house or get any context for their behavior outside of missions? Now can you also imagine that going unpatched for like a month? It's strange, and out of the ordinary for Rockstar's standards.

A lot of people missed out on good chunks of character interaction and unique vignettes because of this. Most were unaware it was a bug, too. RDR2 is amazing, but it shows more sloppiness in certain places than past Rockstar games. I really hope that doesn't continue.

Oh, I don't disagree areas need fixes. Just after GTA my faith in their attention isn't what it once was is all. I do hope this is a new era and much comes going forward in this regard. :)

I hope not. My main fear is if they decide to make Mexico open it will only be for RDR:O. That would be a huge kick in the stones.

Update is for Online. Patches the Mexico glitch and breaks some stuff in single player im sure. This is how it's going to be from now on unfortunately. Single player left to rot with bugs and sluggish performance while Red Dead Online gets more and more exclusive content.

Never happening. When Rockstar say content is for Online they MEAN it. Single player content however is fair game to come to Online as far as they are concerned.

It is an option but since they've invested so much into the singleplayer already with all these animations and such, I wouldn't doubt the possibility of singleplayer DLC.

If they decide to just go the multiplayer route, atleast have the multiplayer stuff release in SP too. (If it makes sense to have it in SP.

I think a lot of people would prefer them to work on DLC when it comes to Red Dead. I'd rather them do that an leave online to GTA tbh

Online feels very much like a reskinned GTAVO.

I'm really hoping that they'll have separate teams for single player and Online so we don't end up with a GTAV situation.
