PS4 Safe to Play?

Hi all.

Not being hugely technical, I hope this isn’t too silly a question. I’ve played story mode through about 3 times on the PS4, but never really dipped my toes into the online mode properly until recently. I’ve been enjoying it, but am concerned about people with stories about account problems. People who report their accounts being stolen by other “players” or even having their consoles affected by people being able to do something via their IP address.  I know this sort of thing goes on in the PC version, but I thought the PS4 (and XBox) was safe.  I am hoping you can put my mind at rest. Thanks folks.

Sure these things can happen. Having your account stolen on ps4 is probably more on the very rare side though. Players being able to see your ip and knockout your internet is more common but I would guess most players dont experience it. It would be unlikely to run into a player that would target you as a low rank/new player if you were minding your business. The worst is usually you get knocked offline for about 10-15 minutes and you have to reset your modem/router to get a new ip.

@StangOne50: Thanks for the reply. I have to admit I’m in two minds now. I’ve had fun with online so far, albeit playing with almost no interaction with my fellow players, which feels like I’m missing the point of it. But robbing stores, stealing cars and generally raising the funds to become a vip and then earn enough for a swanky apartment with a ten car garage, has still been a blast.

 

But given that you’ve confirmed what I’ve read, although the worst cases might be rare...... well I’m just an old country Badger you Know?

Yea I wouldnt really worry about having your account stolen. If you are enjoying the game just keep doing what youre doing. Like I said in the worst case you come across some douche who kicks you off the internet for 10-15 minutes. I am exactly the type of player they target and even then its rare though I have come across these players once every few months or so.

I have been threatened many things, but the worst that happened is loosing internet for about 30 seconds making me go through loading screens again. It has only happened a couple times of all my playing.  A lot of people are just bluffing, I'm on ps4.
