Need help with jewel heist mission-unable to select gas canisters

I chose to do the "smart way" to do the jewel heist mission.  I got to the part where you have to go as Franklin to the roof of the buildings and throw a gas canister into the air vent. Unfortunately, I don't have any gas canisters, I have grenades instead, and so I am stuck.  I can't abort the mission because it is saved to the start of that mission. Therefore, I'm not allowed to try to purchase gas canisters at the gun shop before retrying the mission.  I'm worried because it seems that I will have to start the game all over again since there's no way to obtain the gas canisters. Does anyone have any advice?
