[GTA IV | WIP] GTA Origins Map Mod

Recommended Posts

I returned to modding with a new project called "GTA Origins", it is based on the layout of the GTA Vice City map. The project is an addon for GTA IV.

2NnH8.jpg

The new map, namely the road network is based on the use of basic elements. The road network is built from 110 unique elements.

2NnH9.jpg

Were developed tools written in Max Script for quick and easy development. OFIO is used as the main toolkit.

Yes, something like this, but the layout of the street is not 1 in 1 as in the original, but similar. This was done to ensure development and reduce development time.

Im imazed of the new tool for 3ds max 😍

Could you list us the features? Are you also gonna release them?

Can you contact me on this discord server? https://discord.gg/M32VfH2

Can you teach me about making traffic paths in IV?

At the moment I follow my tactics - I recreate the water boundaries of the city (walls and beaches) in order to receive the closed areas of the Vice City areas and begin to fill them with buildings.

Utilities such as OFIO are available on the website dev-c.com, the rest is my own development that only I understand, not provided by the user without knowledge of working with maxscript may have many questions about how to use all this.

Ok, no problem. Can I learn from you how I make splines in 3ds max and convert them as traffic paths for IV? Also about how to place street lights and other .wft objects?

I'm intrigued. this is basically like that mod Vice City 2 that had a very similar idea.

hopefully in a year this will be a faithful HD ERA recreation

I recommend you to move to V, IV feels retarded in comparsion and you can utilize more terrain shaders to get better looking environment.

I'm not interested in V, because:
- I have enough of the original (licensed Steam copy of the game) and GTAOnline, I do not want to add addons to it.
- I do not like the physics of cars in V
- there are no normal tools (gims and sh*t)
- too complex structure, in contrast to the classical in IV.

Well, I do not need landscape shaders, because VC does not have any complex landscapes.

Inported palm from 5 with OFIO only.

@MIXAZZZ Great work so far man. One recommendation giving what you are aiming for is to add some additional streets to the map. Especially in the area between Little Hattie and Downtown. That part of the map always felt awkward to me. Plus once you finish the city area, you could expand the map further by adding a rural swamp area.

Also regarding your comment on doing the map in GTA V.

-I make a separate copy of my game for mods and another for Online. This seems to do the trick for me.

-I'll agree with you that GTA V's default physics are trash. But with mods, they can actually be better than IV. Realistic top speeds are achievable. Plus the damage effects can be enhanced as well. GTA V has an upgraded physics engine from GTA IV, the only thing is that Rockstar just did a sh*tty job with the parameters, so the physics are actually worse when you use stock (in some areas GTA SA has better physics than vanilla GTA V). But with the Realistic Driving mod, it can feel like a true racing game. Or you can use the GTA IV handling mod which pretty much emulates IV exactly.

-Not sure if GIMS Evo has anything that the IV version doesn't. I haven't used GIMS for IV, but the V one gets the job done. But I'll say that Code Walker is a pretty fantastic tool when it comes down to mapping out paths. I find it much easier than using the tools in Max.

-The DLC pack system that V uses actually isn't that complex once you get the hang of it. Sticking the map files in the x64 files isn't the way to do things in V. Doing it via DLC packs actually has advantages over the previous games. It is actually easier to install, and you can have your entire map inside one file that goes in the dlcpacks folder. All thats left is to add one line to the dlclist, maybe replace gameconfig.xml, and your done.

Also CP is right about the terrain shaders. You also have the lawn shader so you can make the mowed grass look more 3D. And if you wanna do the less maintained grass, you can use the procedural grass system. Really makes the map look less flat.

An example:

Ouch, these grass effect on plane grass werent even present tho on IV. The screenshots of little gardens on the Ocean Beach got that only procedural material feature. And yea, that means it cant be done so easy, bushes and little plants spawn in little spots.

See this explaining video:
