Has anyone tried and played to go through the game and not do the mission where the guy gives you TB? If I remember right it wasnt a main mission you were forced to do

I just did the mission on my second playthrough a few days ago. It's a main mission... Much harder to complete the mission when you know what it leads to.

More than anything, I wish I could tell you that it is. But it is not. I tried. Worst mission/task in the history of single player games. I can barely get myself to go do it. Just... the worst. Like... putting your pet to sleep or something. f*cking ugh.

What if we skipped all of the Leopold Strauss missions? They are not mandatory from what i understand. Not doing any of the Strauss missions for Money Lending and Other Sins would then remove how Arthur gets TB from Thomas Downes. Alternate ending if we win the fight against Micah?

All of Strauss mission is completely optional and missable, but Money Lending and Other Sins III is the only one that's related to story mission (and also the most forced one)

Money Lending & Other Sins I-III are mandatory, they're marked yellow in the map. The others (IV-VII) are optional, they're marked white in the map.

Remember that TB is what ultimately killed Arthur, but it is also what made him change his ways and helped he see his life more clearly. It was both the best and the worst thing that ever happened him if you ask me.

but that wouldn't make any sense.

Red Dead Redemption is not an RPG. it's a linear story. it's not your choice to make.

you are looking at the game with the hindsight of the player who exists outside of Arthur Morgan's life. that's not how the story works. Arthur Morgan's life is set in stone. his story is already written. it's fate. you are merely playing through his adventures. you're not actually in control of them. the events that happen to Arthur are largely out of his control to begin with. he doesn't know anything other than Dutch's gang. he has nowhere else to go and doesn't have the means to leave even if he did. he's caught up in the momentum of the gang and their lives are interwoven with his own. he doesn't have the perspective of a disembodied 3rd-person to view himself from afar. he's trapped. which means you - as the player - are trapped.

it wouldn't be Red Dead Redemption without this trap.

it would just be Generic Cowboy Simulator otherwise.

if you guys want an RPG, go play Skyrim.

I thought so as well because the money lending missions are generally side missions (marked caracterstically by a white blip), but it turns out that this specific mission where you retrieve the money from Thomas Downes is actually an unskipabble story mission (marked by the caracteristical yellow blip).

Since money lending is generally secondary missions as far as I remembered at first when I reached the end of the story I thought, "huh?" "but if that's the case how will they explain the turn of events later in the story", but as logic would dictate, i watched gameplays of the beginning of the game, and that specific mission is marked yellow. Luckily I wasn't aware of that white/yellow mission color coding/meaning back when I first played that mission, a bit too much thinking and I could have spoiled myself accidentally 🤣

Really?

What game did you play?

Because last I checked...

They end up giving you the choice to either throw him out, or not.

Much like they give you the choice to help Charles and the Wapiti residence, or not.

What about Sadie Adler?

Last I checked you do have a choice to help her or not.

But you know what those are all at the end of the game so how about this one...

One of the very first missions gives you the choice to Jimmy Brooks live, or not.

All I asked for was the ability to make that choice sooner.

I don't disagree with the idea that I'm looking at it with hindsight but that doesn't change the fact that give you these choices

Sorry I should have said they give you the choice to absolve the debts and throw him out...

Point is they obviously give you a number of choices throughout the game.

the game forces you into the same ending, the death of the protag, regardless of your input. it's a linear story.

a handful of arbitrary choices does not = RPG. sorry to burst your bubble.

hey I'm on your side.

I wish we could change this outcome using our 20/20 hindsight. I would love to skip the Strauss missions but then the entire game would be kind of meaningless. the whole 3rd act would fall apart and then Red Dead Redemption 1 would be obsolete. it would be like some kind of weird Back-To-The-Future situation in which Beecher's Hope never existed because John never had the money to build it

Sadly not OP, pity you couldn't make Micah go do it. I f**king hate that mission, (that ride back from the mission is soul destroying) as Blasterman said worst mission in the history of single player missions for me any way.
