After 100+ real time hours of playing through the story then even going back to the start, Arthur's beard just refuses to get to that God-like level 10 beard. I've spent weeks of in-game time in every chapter after 1 in going through the process of sleeping, buying tonics, sleeping, buying tonics... to get no further than the following: Spoiler Chapter 2: Mustache - Level 8 Chops - Level 7 Chin - Level 7 Chapter 3: Mustache - Level 10 Chops - Level 8 Chin - Level 8 Chapter 4: Mustache - Level 10 Chops - Level 8 Chin - Level 8 Chapter 5 (Guarma): Didn't even bother Chapter 6: Mustache - Level 10 Chops - Level 8/9 Chin - Level 8/9 Does anyone have any confirmed information on how to get to level 10. YouTubers all have conflicting info on this. Some will say you can only grow it in and after Chapter 4. Some say only in Chapter 6. I've seen some users on this forum say they have gotten level 10 in Chapter 2 but that's got to be wrong. Others report that it MAY be a bug. If anyone out there has grown a full beard... Meekail Posted November 21, 2018 Share Posted November 21, 2018 I encountered a glitch in Chapter 2 after completing the Seamus mission when the fence got unlocked. The fence wasn't immediately available for me after completing the mission and I had to "Wait until morning" to try it. Even after the wait, the fence was still closed and I basically had the option to "Wait until morning" over and over again. Doing this over 60 times actually made Arthur's beard longer going as far as Level 7 and it only took one hour in real time. Who knows what would have happened if I had 99 Hair Tonics? lol Of course going far away from the area fixed the glitch and the fence was open again... But even after HOURS of playing did nothing for me in each chapter. - Start when the store opens - Drink 3 tonics. - Buy 3 more from the store - Sleep till night - Drink 1 x tonic - Sleep till noon - Drink 1 x tonic - Sleep till night - Drink 1 x tonic - Go to the store (it will be closed) then wait till morning. - Repeat. This saves you having to wait around to the next time you can sleep. you'll be able to go back to the hotel and start the process again. I pulled off Level 7 hair easily in Chapter Six thanks to you, but I couldn't get my Mustache past 9 after repeating this method six times. Ah well, close enough. Reading "DrinK ToNICs" from people will be the death of me or "this chaper"!. support has me on some wild goose chase clearing my ps4 cache, and now I have to send them the game's build number in a screenshot. Yeah this issue will likely never be fixed, it is bizarre that the glitch only effects some. The way it is supposed to work is after chapter 2 you can reach level 7 naturally, then to increase you must use tonics. The reason it stops growing in chapter 2, 3, or 4 is not by design. Its likely a corruption in the files. So you can stop wasting your time on it as sleep and tonics will not make it grow. If you're interested I can update further when rockstar contacts me. I also contacted Rockstar support who said this: "I see you're having a problem getting Arthur to grow a full beard. As a fellow gamer and fan of the series I completely understand your frustration.How many tonics are you using every day in-game? I would suggest using 6-7 daily for a week in-game and letting the beard grow out." Fair play to them. I've told them the process I've been going through that hasn't worked. My chin was stuck at 7 and my chops at 9 like most people, Spoiler but before we left shady belle, I trimmed my chops to even out with my beard. I haven't officially checked it but out of nowhere, my beard was LONG in this cutscene now. Spoiler I should note - after Returning from Guarma, and visiting the doctor receiving dreadful news on my way to Sadie Adler to do this hot air balloon mission. For those who want information without clicking the spoiler, After returning from a place back home in Chapter 5 in a big series of events (in mission), my beard grew. I drank a ton of tonic at once earlier in chapter 4. I drank like 10. (Not including the 15 or 20 I scarfed as soon as I got wind of the tonic) Then I drank about 8 more at once in the middle of chapter 5 before sh*t hit the fan. It was a great deal of time - around 2 in game weeks. I didn't sleep or rush anything. I actually lost track of my progress and decided to even the beard out with a trim. I'll update this thread when they come back to me. So Rockstar haven't actually acknowledged my question about if you need to get past a specific chapter to be able to grow a full beard. Good to know but I'm playing as Arthur you dip sh*ts. Anyway I think I'm done with the game until online comes out, this glitch is just making the 2nd playthrough annoying as I know it will never grow correctly. bnlxwlls Posted November 26, 2018 Author Share Posted November 26, 2018 Update in Chapter 2: Mustache has gone from level 8 to 9 after about an hours worth of playing drinking 6 tonics, sleeping till night, waiting till morning outside the store then repeating. Chin is also starting to show extra hair strands but still on level 7 Fingers crossed this will go to level 8 soon.
