Go Team Venture
(Light Spoilers Ahead) So I’m not super far into the game, but far enough that I feel there should be more going on... I’m at the second camp in Lymone (I guess the third if you count the snowed-in place up the mountain), and I just did the first “deputized” mission, where we went with the sheriff of Rhodes and blew up a distillary in the woods. With roughly the same amount of gameplay under my belt in RDR1, I was up to my neck in “Stranger” missions, but I have almost nothing here. I’ve met like three people who want to me to collect things for them, and those weren’t “missions” at all... Basically they said hello and asked for stuff. The only Stranger mission I have been able to follow is Arcadia for Amateurs, the ones with the guy photographing stuff. Nothing else. I explore the map a ton, nothing is grayed out anymore except the area with Blackwater in it, and I’ve even managed to explore in there a few times and flesh out that map, before I get killed by Pinkertons. Still, nowhere on the entire map is there any more question marks... Does that sound normal? My map in RDR1 was littered with question marks by this point. Does this sound bugged to you guys?.. Go Team Venture
I forgot to mention... There was a question mark in Van Horn Trading post, so I went there to check it out, but when I was walking down the street a guy started cursing at me (a guy I had not interacted with at all, he was on the street, I was on the sidewalk), and even though I ignored him and kept walking, he started shooting, which caused the people standing outside the saloon to start shooting at him, and he fired back, and like three people died, and the question mark disappeared. Multiple in-game weeks since then, it’s never reappeared. So that’s awesome... Nothing like a game punishing you by permanently withholding content because it bugged and had a bunch of NPC’s fight each other for no reason. I wonder if that was a fun mission. I wonder if there are ANY fun Stranger missions. The photographer guy is boring.

The question marks/stranger missions will only appear on your map when you are close to them, and will disappear again, so it's likely that you rode by some of them and didn't realized. roe
The stranger missions in RDR 2 are better than in the first game imo. My favourites are probably "The Iniquities of History", "He's British, Of Course" and "The Smell of the Grease Paint". A lot don't open until chapter 4. It's probably too late for this advice seeing as you seem to have already explored a lot of the map but personally I found that exploring small bits of the map at a time was a good experience. I didn't go to Rhodes until the gang went there, same with Saint Denis and some of the other towns and areas. nicktestbranch, Journey_95, psymin and 2 others
paddymcg
You'll regret asking for strangers that want you to collect stuff when you meet Algernon Wasp, he asks you to collect over 100 of some of the rarest things in the game. But in all seriousness, there's a ton of stranger missions, you just haven't found them yet, there's more than there was in RDR1.
HopalongCasidy
Oh Algernon, you uppity wank. Go crawl around amongst the gators, snapping turtles and snakes, and get your own bloody flowers and feathers. That’s how you got the brick and mortar in St. Denis. Get out there and work for it! You just ninja'd me, so I'll repost it, lol. @Go Team Venture. Stick with it, Van Horn has what I felt was one of the best pair of stranger missions. It's a lawless area so arrive from the north and if folk are near the bar, rent a room and bump time a bit. Should help.

Sonny_Black
@Go Team Venture RDR1: 19 stranger mission. RDR2: 26 stranger mission. So don't worry, as @MafiaAssassin® said, the icon will appear only if you are close. Keep in mind that this game pushes you more to explore than RDR1. I was on my way to see the stranger just northwest of Flatneck Station, when I saw a pronghorn I needed for its perfect pelt. I shot it, but I guess I scared the stranger. It's been several in-game weeks and he still hasn't returned. Internet research tells me it's supposed to be a treasure hunt, so I'm kinda sad about it. Aside from that, I think the stranger missions are great.
Non Funkable Token
You have two just south of Horseshoe Overlook you can do as soon as chapter 2..... As said, there are more than in RDR1. They just don't show up on the map unless you get close. Edited November 21, 2018 by Fluffy Sock
Tonesta
A number of the Stranger missions don't become available until Chapter 4 - I think there's probably at least half a dozen, most of them starting in St. Denis (plus one in Valentine, and one in Rhodes). But where you are in the game, there should be several more for you to find that aren't simply collectables. There's two, for example, in Rhodes itself that I did during Chapter 3 - and another (IMHO the most fun one that I've experienced so far) in Northern Lemoyne, just a little North-West of Pleasance. LeonVegaSuarez
I've been playing this game for an insane amount of hours and just realized I hadn't done two bounty missions yet. There is a crazy amount of stuff to do.
