EHM
Probably everyone who still plays SA knows about the territory glitch that occurs when traveling extreme distances in any direction beyond the map edge. I've heard many theories... Map being shrunk and territories being "stretched" over it. being an abandoned mechanic that due to oversight could be activated (The player was possibly supposed to "lose" or unlock more contestable territory during Saint Mark's Bistro when returning from Liberty City, hence why a territory is unlocked above San Fierro after). Data being overwritten/overflowing similar to how bones and visual water break eventually when traveling for long enough. Interestingly on PS2 you could actually get colored region text depending on which gang controlled the territory, if you traveled far a certain amount of time. Did we ever figure out what causes it? OrionSR
Yes. We even figured out how to map the off-the-map sectors. https://gtaforums.com/topic/894867-mapping-off-the-map-turf-and-zone-glitches/ The glitch is caused by the routine that manages the map fog that covers areas CJ has not explored. Out of range values were not restricted, so the game end up writing to areas of zone memory just before or after the array that tracks the map fog.
