Guest Guest176525326
Swim. Yeah, I know why Rockstar has done this as it makes sense, cos he couldn't swim in RDR either, but come on it is just silly, especially after the story you are forced to free roam as John. It takes away of that immense sandbox freedom feeling... disappointed Arthur > John
Cutter De Blanc
Swam out in Lake Don Julio last night as Arthur, because f*ck you John Marston, that's why jordy-w92, Copcaller, Bakkerbaard and 8 others
CrimsonFolo
It annoys me too but at least we can use horses for swimming i guess. They are faster as well. The Dedito Gae, Blasterman4EVER, primethief147 and 1 other
Paro93
I see this as a Rockstar's bad call, not a problem with the character. They screwed up in this regard. crazedZ10, BJBooBoo and The Time Ranger
Cutter De Blanc
On the one hand it's cool that they make you feel as though you're playing as another character, not just a reskin That's about the only thing I find cool about the endgame though Nulla Lex Ink., dieseltech20 and The Dedito Gae

You have to free roam around as a guy who can’t even swim! What a joke!!!
Psyperactive81
this is more of a "It annoys me that John CAN..." Meekail
I bet if they did make him swim, there would be people saying "WHY CAN HE SWIM IN THIS GAME BUT NOT IN THE FIRST GAME?? HockeyMike24
Arthur makes fun of John throughout the story that he can't swim. Would be kinda weird if suddenly he can swim. Out of the things I would change about this game, this wouldn't be one of them. Who really wants to swim around anyways? I dread swimming in all R* titles Zello, The Dedito Gae, LittleJesus and 6 others
Hatin Since 87
Swimming doesn’t really have much purpose in this game. It’s not like you can dive underwater and explore, and we have boats and horses that can take us across bodies of water. Doesn’t seem like much of an issue to me personally, but I see your point, it does almost feel like we regress some after beating the story. Any time you take away something available during the story after you complete it, it’s frustrating... so in that aspect I agree. But, still not really an issue to me. ♀ Outsider, CrimsonFolo, Lonely-Martin and 2 others
Furi0sa
I hate playing as john in this game so much. He's too thin and looks like some nerd playing dress up in all the outfits. imburgundy
Arthur or John it doesn't really matter because your horse swims quicker and longer anyway. I get your point OP because I would like for him to swim too but there really are people out there that would complain that he shouldn't be able to swim in this game because he couldn't in the first. 16 minutes ago, scotthedge12 said: I hate playing as john in this game so much. Arthur had that grizzled veteran cowboy look even with no facial hair. John is definitely on the skinnier side and and younger and I just feel like nothing really suits him well. Maybe because they oddly allowed us to keep Arthur's clothes? Even though I feel like there was a decent amount of clothing options for Arthur, I thought the reason they didn't have more was because it wouldn't be something Arthur would wear since it's his story, but now that we have John and there is not more options, now I hope they are saving them for online.....hope. chronic lumbago
It's a terrible choice. They should've favored gameplay over immersion in this case. crazedZ10, tre288, Cutter De Blanc and 1 other
Algonquin Assassin
I don't have a problem with it. Atleast this time he tries to swim, but struggles to do so running out of stamina gradually instead of reacting like he's stepped into acid like Red Dead Redemption. From a gameplay perspective since we have boats, canoes and even the horses can swim I don't see what the problem is. Not being to swim was one of John's staples from the first game so I'm happy R* respected that rather than making a retcon. It also makes John feel like he's his own character rather than just a reskin of Arthur. Hondaslayer
Plus it gave R* a lot of fun jokes too. Can't swim, dumb etc... I liked that they made fun of themselves (and John, I guess) Edit: Maybe Jim Milton can swim. oCrapaCreeper
To be fair there's no reason to swim in this game aside from covering short distances, and your horse is a better swimmer anyway if you for some reason do need to swim. Arthur isn't that great of a swimmer either and runs out of stamina pretty quick. Bakkerbaard
Nutduster
I'm happy they kept it basically consistent. And it doesn't matter anyway. As Arthur I've swum about half a dozen times - his slow paddling and fast stamina drain make it nearly useless for exploration, or for anything other than staying alive for fifteen seconds when you accidentally fall in the water. It is so nearly useless even when you have it that I am honestly surprised anyone cares. Just get a canoe. Let John swim until you reach 100%, then a special cutscene mission comes that scares John out of the water. Maybe a second unmentioned child eaten by a catfish or something. Keeps canon, while not punishing us for finishing the game.

paddymcg
I don't mind that he can't swim, it doesn't change much about the game but it's implemented quite poorly. The stamina bar should take time to drain (maybe 1-2 seconds) and the stamina core definitely shouldn't drop to 0 instantly, that's very annoying. crazedZ10
Lonely-Martin
Not something I miss, and love that they kept John true to his former self from RDR and the banter R* added to mock him of his lack of swimming ability. Though do feel the game would be bigger and better if there was underwater stuff or reasons to use the waters. But with us and online to come, plenty of time for the game to grow. Unfortunately, probably will all be online only though. I'd love a story DLC and there's no shortage of ideas but, well, GTA:O.

Nah, in RDR the horses couldn’t swim either so why not implement that as well to RDR2 then? I tell you why, because that would ruin the gameplay. John not being able to swim makes him look like a puff, an outlaw who has lived his whole life in wilderness has never learned how to swim? LOL, give me a break. But for sure in those days, to believe a boy picked up by Dutch and protected by a group of land living folk, he just hasn't needed or wanted to learn or try. Not hard to believe considering I know people IRL that fear water or just won't/can't swim IRL today. If we lived in world where everyone swam, I'd accept John has to, lol. It's just not important to me at all. There's no reason to need to as they changed the horses. psymin
