Fidzy
Spoiler-free chat here as I've not completed the game and not sure if I've missed anything. Landon Ricketts said he headed to Mexico after the infamous Blackwater massacre of 1899, the same year the Van der Linde gang attempted the robbery. Was he involved in it? I remember him saying he gunned down police officers aswell which is why I'm wondering if he was trying to take down the gang or helping them out... Rykjeklut
From the in-game chatter from the gang I can't see them knowing him.

That's what I'm confused about. I highly doubt there were 2 'massacres' in less than a year in the same location and according to the red dead wiki he was present, I just can't seem to think whether he'd be trying to gun them down or help them. Furthermore, I'm surprised nothing got said between John and Landon when they were talking in Chuparosa. I know it wouldnt've been thought of all the way back then but it's a good thought. He could have been there totally unrelated, and just got caught up in the commotion as a well known gunslinger. There's just so many small things that have been neglected/forgot from the first one, this is probably one of them.
OhHeyBro
Doubt it. In one of the missions in I think chapter II or III, Spoiler one of the gang members mentions Ricketts and speaks of him like he was someone famous from the history books. So he must have been passed his glory days even back in 1899. Maybe he was already in Mexico that early? VercettiGuy
I was always hoping the game would start off with the massacre and that Ricketts would make a cameo appearence. Tasty_Pasta

If you play poker will John at Horseshoe Overlook, he will talk about Landon. Doesn't sound like Landon was with them or any of the gang knew him, they just knew of him. John speaks about him like a giddy child over a toy, Arthur just seems like meh just another guy. sounds like another retcon by rockstar. Slonitram
From all it seems, Landon was just caught-up in the middle of the firefight and either fought for his life or ran away. Either way, he survived it and gained fame for it. If there's ever a singleplayer DLC for this game (which I highly doubt), I hope we get to play as Landon Ricketts before he ended up in Chuparosa. Gray-Hand
Dudn’t Ricketts mention that he had worked as a law man at some stage? I always assumed that he was on the other side of the Massacre.
Non Funkable Token
The sheriff of Valentine mentions him in one bounty hunter mission. Something like "she killed more men than Landon Ricketts". tonko
