Best time in the story to do all the stuff? [ENDGAME SPOILERS]

Again, MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW:

 

So we play as John again, which was a pleasant surprise for me.

 

However, I really like playing as Arthur.  What do you believe is the best time in the story to just focus on ALL the side stuff for a second playthrough?

Id say do as much as you can in chapter 3 because if you do it in chapter 5 you will miss out on alot of companion activities and stuff for people at the camp, for obvious reasons

Is there a mission in Chapter 3 that doesn't start in camp, and isn't triggered by a gang member, so that you can have a camp with all members in It? I know there's one in Chapter 4

I think he meant when you get back from Guarma.

 

Then again, that's when Arthur's sick and there's no proper camp.

 

Seems like Chapter 2/3 is the best point in the story.

the whole atmosphere changes during the story. the „happy open world“ changes at the mentioned chapter to a situation, you want just rush the sory to end this bad mood. that was my case

That's true.  That's why I don't think Chapter 4 onwards is a good point to do all the side stuff.

 

Narrative-wise, do you think Chapter 2 is best to do all the side stuff?

 

I mean, would it make sense for Arthur to do all that stuff during that Chapter?

When it comes to stranger quests in your first playthrough the best time to do them is when they unlock I found. Every new chapter unlocks a bunch. The reason I say this is because some of the chapter 6 strangers take into account what is going on in the chapter and it really goes well with the story. That being said, you can do I think all the strangers with John so you get a different perspective on them, which is nice for second playthroughs.

 

For hunting/challenges, camp upgrades and unlocking satchels, trapper outfits etc, chapter 2 and early chapter 3 is by far the best place to do them. Going for the satchel upgrades is pointless once you begin chapter 5 really, particularly because you can just buy them for cash post-chapter 6.

I'd say shortly after the move to Beaver Falls? I felt it was around this point in the game that Dutch started to turn a little on Arthur, and seclude himself somewhat (I remember the curtains on his tent being drawn a lot of the time). Charles started spending more time at the reservation too, obviously anticipating what was coming. Though there was kind of a slow burn on the atmosphere throughout the earlier chapters, I thought there was a drastic shift in this chapter, and I'll be using that turning point to take Arthur off on his own a lot to mop up the side missions and such with him during my 2nd playthrough.

 

I've waited all this time to finally get access to Blackwater and New Austin, but now Arthur's dead and I'm playing as John I've sort of lost interest in that part of the map. I'm going to finish out John's part in the overall story, and then head back to the beginning.

Chapter 4 after a certain mission. Arthur can freely enter New Austin after just this mission as discovered here 

As you can see, this is Arthur exploring New Austin.

Too me it would  be a Yes, Chapter 2 is the only chapter that your really not looking over your shoulder for the law and you actually feel  "safe". Its also the only camp your at for decent amount of time. Your supposedly at Horseshoe for months, but the other camps are a month or less.

Wait! You can get into New Austin as Arthur? Why is this the first I'm hearing about this? And how do you do it!?

That's exactly what I was looking for, bud!

 

You are right, if I remember correctly, that was the "safest" chapter in the game.  Guess I'd probably do the side stuff then.

I was thinking of doing a new playthrough toi knock out all the side stuff while slowly progressing from Chapter 2 to Chapter 4. I kind of feel like in Chapter 3 I starting blowing through the story and actually missed out on a lot of the side content in the camp and around the world in general.

I've already put more hours into my new game on chapter 2. Just take a much slower approach to the game second time around. I only do a main mission when I want to unlock some side content or talk to someone who is a mission giver.

 

Even in chapter 2 you can find most locked weapons if not all. Find a fishing rod, craft the second holster, ect. Plus the camp is central to everything
