Online could possibly have voices for the player characters.

The first red dead redemption and GTA 4 had dialogue buttons and I read that this game has double the amount and you can tell that there is a lot put in the greeting interactions in free roam.

This might be a stretch but the audio dialogue might be in for the player avatars if you think about the way it works in story mode. EVery NPC has a negative and positive response for the "hello" right before someone ask how anothers day is going. Every class of NPC has their own unique line that sends the same message Online mode might use these basic lines and taunts that work in any context and to add variety maybe the player can chose the voice type in the avatar creator like saints row or maybe a reused of the preset from GTA O with the face morph.

It would be a huge mistake for R* not to do this with their new greet/antag system.

Would be cool too if they had 10 or more choices per sex. With a range of accents like Southern, Yankee, Canadian, Mexican, Native, Scottish, Irish the list goes on. They definitely have the budget for it. Saints Row had 3 voice actors for each sex, R* could have much much more.

It would be amazing if Rockstar did this. The NPC interactions from single player would be truly missed if they are absent from multiplayer. It plays such a pivotal role in the world and how we engage with it. The world would feel less alive without it. The only downside i can think of though would be a lack of voice variety. Fore example: If a group of friends all went the Native American route with their characters (playing as a tribe), it would feel lazy if all of their characters sounded identical.

Yeah I can already picture having to compromise on my voice choice in order to not sound the same as my friends.

I read somewhere that r* hired over 1000 voice actors,  so it's very possible some of them were used for our online character.

It would be really disappointing to play another silent dude like in gta. The interactions are one of the things that makes the world feel so alive.

Im hoping to see/hear like 5-10 different males n female voices to chose from. Maybe we even get voicelines like in overwatch that you unlick via challenges.

I can't imagine the game without it, for example how would you rob NPC's without the voice? How would you defuse the law after fist fight or some other minor offense? Immersion would also suffer a huge blow and I can't see R* screwing their game like that, online or not...

I guess we could use sign language and the good old fashioned personal touch of a handwritten message.

RDR 1 had it right with few phrases. I hope they expand that in RDR 2. I can't stand mute characters.

There could be a lot of different voices to pick from and then there could be a slider to set the pitch of your voice to create more variety.

Ugh.

While I expect our characters to be voiced for reasons already stated, I certainly hope it's limited to simple dialogue with a very wide selection of voices to choose from, otherwise what's the point? I want to explore the world as me, not as whatever R* wants me to be. I won't bother with Online if R* forces a character and narrative on me.

I'm thinking that they may use some NPC dialogue for our characters in game. Things like basic greets, insults and so on are already recorded for some NPC's. We'll probably get a strong but silent character that rarely speaks.

Perhaps we will also see gestures used instead of voices sometimes, like tipping your hat to greet people etc. Could see it getting repetitive if you greet everyone with the same 10 voice lines for example

it would be funny to be able to voice chat yourself to communicate with the person, like you could press defuse and have a few seconds to speak which would acknowledge the option you choose. Of course a lotta people would do something like pick defuse and say f*ck off or something but it would still be funny.

That’s a brilliant idea although it could create some lame situations.

Player Defuse:”Hey you crap eater, your mom works at Wal-Mart”

NPC: “What a relief”
