Horse Permadeath Online?

How it works in GTA Online is that you pay the insurance cost of the car (usually around 1k to 9k or more depending on how expensive car is) and then your car can respawn. It kinda works to an extent there but it doesn't really fit in RDR Online nor do i think that it would be a great system.

Option 2 that you have listed seems like a decent one but would still encourage throwaway horses

Alright, I now understand how it works in GTA. Well, even the insurance system does't make sense since a completely destroyed and burnt car is unrecoverable, but that's GTA Online for you. Red Dead is meant to be more realistic, and of course insurance doesn't work and didn't exist for in the old west as far as I know. Buying a new horse every time and then lose it due to griefing will be frustrating over time, so I'd personally prefer Solution #2. There are also ways to harm griefers (i.e. Online's mindless outlaws) like sending them to jail for a full in-game day. The bounty will always label them as Wanted Dead or Alive and will be taken to jail in either case. Rockstar will surely not throw a system in without making sure it provides a good balance between realism, playability and, of course, in-game spending.

Yep that’s clear as day, but Trolls feed of frustration and not their own inadequacy or irrelevance. 😊

Ow my feeling. I had one left and you hurt it :(

Also, horse permadeath ain't gonna happen.

Some people will pay a lot of real money for the best horse, theres no way it will be gone forever because of another players behaviour.

I wont pay real money but i would never use a good horse in such an environment as well.

It wont happen.

If you can get a new horse for free, if you have bought it for real money, you do not lose anything you have bought for real money.

If you never use a good horse, then you will be at a permanent disadvantage against people who are willing to risk it. A fair choice and tactic, which is a great reason for horse permadeath, to make the lower end horses viable.

If you never use a good horse you're not at a permanent disadvantage against someone who does, cause you can just kill it and then they're f*cked. There's too many ways a horse can very easily die in online for it to be practical. I'm not speculating with that statement either, anyone who play RDR1's online will tell you that horse killing was rife.

If horse perma death was any sort of thing then the moment you enter any combat situation with another player they're gonna go for the horse every single time cause killing somebodies horse would have a much bigger impact than actually killing their character. So unless you never ever plan to PvP then you're gonna lose your horse constantly - not that PvE in online isn't riddled with ways to lose your horse either.

As for getting it back for free if you use real money, that would be difficult/impossible to implement I would assume. If you can buy cash like in GTAO then there's no way they could tell which cash came from the currency card as it's lumped in with your earned money. You'd have to allow people to buy things directly for real world cash which wouldn't be ideal given all the amount of different to buy and the varying different costs.

It’s easy to implement. It’s already implemented for single player pre-order and special edition horses.

No that's a completely different situation and means nothing here.

The only way it could work, I suppose, is they do a premium currency instead of buying in-game cash directly. Any horses purchased with that premium currency would be free to recover if they die, or something like that.

Not that it'd fix any of the million other issues with perma death horses of course lol.

^^ Good point on the cash issue; will be interesting to see how "Sharkcard" money is handled in regards to gambling or winnings at poker, etc.

I can already see river boat gambling becoming a big thing in this game--a common theme for many old movies.

I just want to see some griefers getting snapped up by a massive gator; one good reason for riding a horse actually--they'll warn you of animal predators long before you ever see them. :)

I hope so. Would be fun to meet up with rival gangs for some less bloody competition 😊
