Feral Man (spoiler)

I’ll add “spoiler” to the title for those that haven’t encountered the feral man yet lol. Anyway, I finally found him, his den, and slaughter his pack. He cried then attacked me. I accidentally killed him when all I wanted to do was hogtie him and release him in Saint Denis lol. So now here I am with a dead hairy naked man draped over my shoulder as I try decide what to do with him. Suddenly I see a fisher man with his horse hitched behind him. I decide to stow the dead hairy naked man on the fisherman’s horse and watch his reaction when he turns around. I got impatient waiting and decided to engage the fisherman until he’d leave in his horse. Unfortunately the fisherman didn’t take kindly to my antagonizing and drew his gun on me. A gun fight pursued which ended in the fisherman’s death. I turn around to find his horse has fled with dead hairy naked man stowed on its back. I attempted to track it with no luck. So now somewhere out there is a horse with a dead hairy naked man stowed on its back lmao.

Hahaha.   I almost took him to the trapper for shiz and gigs but found a perfect moose.  That’s good stuff though.

I hogtie'd him before i went into his den, checked his den out and when i walked back outside, he was no longer hogtie'd.

I then hear a wolf howl and suddenly this mf'er charged at me from behind with a knife.

I wonder how he escaped it or it might have been a scripted thing lol

Ohhh so that's who it was! I recently saw this dude just sprinting butt ass naked through the forest. It was a total wtf thing but in the world of RDR2, it wasn't so surprising. 😂

I saw the feral man up in the North-East. He had two wolves with him. I observed him from a distance, and followed him. He went back to his cave near Brandywine Drop i think it was.

I tried to go and speak to him, but he was howling jibberish whilst the wolves guarded his side. As i approched, they attacked, so i had no choice but to put them down. He then laid down in the fetal position and cried, i couldnt speak to him.

I explored his cave to see if there were any loot for me to take, and i found his diary. He states that he went out with his farther as a kid and got lost, and had never found his family again. And the two wolves i had just killed he had found as pups, and had grown up with them.

Feeling bad, i went back to try and see if i could speak to him, but he was no longer laying there in the fetal position. So i went to leave, and he jumped out from a dark corner of the cave and tried to stab me. I had no choice but to dispatch him too.

I felt bad and decided to place both wolves and his body into the water beside the cave, and let them float off down stream.

It was a nice little moment in the game that i didnt expect, and felt like it made the world feel a broad and more believable place.

There is a way to complete this side quest without killing his wolves.

...spoiler...

As promised here is the video showing how I did it. There may be more ways to do this event and achieve different results but this is the best I could come up with at this moment.

If I find something different I'll let everyone know.

Sorry about the inconsistencies in text size and editing.

To be honest, I was exhausted after a very busy day, so I kind of [email protected] $ $ed put this together.

I'm not sure why bate is the key to this but it works

That's very close to how it went for me too.  I felt terrible for killing him and the wolves - probably should have scoped out the cave from afar and snuck in at another time.

Nah

You don't have to kill them...

Just watch the video I put under the spoiler tag in my post above

I just threw him in the river and watched him float away. Somewhere down the line I'm sure someone got an unwanted eyeful of his fully rendered dangle.

I got ambushed a couple times by him in random spots, then when I was near his den (at the time I knew nothing about) I heard him howling and shot him in the woods. The body disappeared. As I neared his den I was looking for a cougar so I went in, and he rushed me with a knife so I shot him. No time to hogtie or anything. I wish there was some kind of dialogue and more to this story. Whatever... f*ck wolves and this naked looney.

...or does no one know how to read

I stated that I found him well before this post existed... about a week before your post 3 hours ago... I read just fine. You?

Besides, the end result is the exact same. Only one way this ends.

Also I wanted to point out to everyone  that the bait thing works on the old gypsy witches dogs also.

...but it takes longer to work on the dogs for some reason, and does little to stop her from shooting at you.

That said, back to this...

...I searched YouTube and found nothing about it so I'm assuming no one has put this together yet

Not saying this is definitely correct but this is what I've come up with so far.

Ok so in his journal right at the start it talks about a shotgun with a beautiful carving in the stock...

Then about quail hunting with his dog.

Well...

That is certainly a beautiful carving of a boy and his dog, hunting quail.

So the questions now is.

Is the guy with the gun...

...his father

...Ole Circe

...or just some random someone who just happened to have the very gun he spoke about.

The guy with the gun is most likely old Circe, the guy spoken about in The Wolfman Journal.

At the end, you neither have to kill him or beat him as both results in Dishonor. I Hogtied him, took his Journal, untied him and left the area :) No Dishonor, no dead wolves and no dead wolf man. Everyone is happy, maybe someone is just sad that they have lost their Journal😛

Also I would like to thank you! :D

Thank you as well for the info. I didn't think to just hogtie him.

That's sort of scripted to happen. My advice is dismounting the horse as soon as you hear his howl, or see the dot on your minimap. Pursue on foot at all costs.

Yeah then when you get just him, and no wolves.

That's the one you can either, use the horse to chase him down

...or go on foot and track him with Eagle Eye.

The trail he leaves will literally say Feral Man.

Don't worry even if he gets out of site, he'll still be there.

I mean don't go off out of the area but if you fallow the trial, your ok. Even if he gets out of site because of the sent trail he leaves.

...just like, how an animal can go pretty far as long as your tracking it.

You can also wait till he chases you, run away from the cave, then hit him a couple times and run again. He will eventually turn back. But if you're far enough away from the cave he doesn't go back there. I went back, the cave was empty and I got the journal with no loss of honor.

I had to fight the wolves. Completely lost him amidst the scuffle. Will he ever show up again?

Yep! I lost him about 2-3 times before I finally chased him down on foot, all the way into his little cave.

As long as he's alive, he'll keep appearing. Don't worry!

I accidentally shot him the other day when I was out and about. A pack of wolves appeared below me, so I took a shot at them.

He appeared behind me and charged me with a knife. Instinct kicked in and I shot him without seeing who he actually was until it was too late.

Well, last night I was tracking a bear and the bear led me into his cave where I did find his journal.

No wolves around.

I felt bad I killed him...

FINALLY got his ass today. Last week, I spent four hours trying to get the full encounter to take place. Wolves kept being with him and attacking me. All the issues happened that I've researched online as complained by others. Horse bucking, wolves, etc. He kept despawning/vanishing. His lair would randomly be designed properly or be empty. He would spawn in different parts of the area. He seemed to never spawn when a random fellow was sitting by one of the trees. If I killed the guy by the tree, he would spawn. Anyway, I eventually killed him in dead-eye with the rolling block rifle. Cave was designed properly, but no "Wild man's journal" present. I had a save before this whole fruitless journey, and then I went to work.

Left the marker on the map and went back to other things, got through the long chapter two. I'm taking my time with the game, and my friends are impatient, lol.

Off day today, so did some missions and side endeavors. Felt like I'd played enough, so said "what the heck, I'll try to get him" and made the long ride into the Grizzlies.

The event triggered in the opposite direction of the cave, and I was like "okay, here goes nothing." Found the white dot a lot closer to me and the feral man was right in front of me, not running away so soon this time. It looked promising. Then he took off 180* toward the cave (where my marker was) and I gave chase. "OMG, I'm finally gonna get it to work...." Heard some howls that seemed to be behind me ("Oh crap, not again, man!") but they were actually coming from inside the cave.

Then, hey, the encounter played out just fine. I was SO RELIEVED. Not sure if I was trying to make it happen too soon, if it now works once Chapter 3 is underway. I saw a guide somewhere that said it isn't possible to play out properly until Chapter 6. Still seems hella buggy so far as encounters go, almost Fallout-level glitchy. I feel bad for everybody on Reddit that still can't get it to work correctly. Before today, I had settled on doing it later on as

Spoiler

John

which I'd seen a video of. Maybe it does take three encounters, I'm not sure. I had shot at the wolves once prior (my first time meeting him right after doing the bear hunt mission with Hosea) and maybe the save I loaded was after a second encounter, not sure. So this may have been my second encounter with him, but just glad it's over.

Arthur: [after killing the wolves, antagonize option] "What did you think was gonna happen?"

TL;DR - Wolfman encounter finally worked! Reluctantly shot the wolves, stabbed him, left. Arthur is ice cold and doesn't "Leave!"

Yeah you have to run across him a few times before you get the one that he runs to the cave.

I remember how frustrating it was trying to find him without his wolves.

...I later realized that the first few times I ran across him, something would happen shortly after and I would role back a save, but the problem was I was loading a save from before I ever encountered him, and because of that I kept getting the wolves lol

Just had to make sure I saved right after each encounter
