JC LEON
Yes i know maybe this could be a stupid question and maybe it could be asked several times but my question is a little bit specific I saw this video comparative between standard and pro and i noticed some little diffrences in lightning system here and here specificaly related how light pass throught foliage and trees (hdr I'm supponing) and sincerly would to know if I eventually play RDR2 on ps4 pro I could have these effects even if Iìll play it on a tv without hdr and not a 4k tv.. or if instead ..since i have a standard ps4 and would to know if the switch t o pro worth it even if idont have a 4k tv.. many thanks in advance for your time

wagszilla
PS4 Pro has a superior CPU and GPU. This means you're not going to see as many dips below 30fps although I got some at times on PS4 Pro. PS4 Pro runs check boarded 4K which is not true 4K. It's 1440x. If you want true 4K get an Xbox One X. I think the foliage renders with better AA than I've seen in the handful of comparison videos I've watched. But I doubt it's going to deal with lighting any differently, i.e. the subsurface scattering you mention on leaves and skin. HDR is about rendering tonality which is afforded to a display with a wider bit depth and color space. TL;DR: Newer tech is better. It's up to you if you want to spend the money or not. djb204 and JC LEON

Guest Guest176525326
I had the game on the base PS4 and it was very laggy at places like Saint Denis. So I went out and got the One X and wow, it's simply amazing in 4K. However, if you don't have a 4K TV, I suggest to get the PS4 Pro as it will run the game MUCH better than the base PS4. The base PS4/Xbox One are pretty useless for RDR2 IMO, frame rate drops way too much to enjoy the game fully.

PlayStation is known for their focus on single player games. Spider-Man, God Of War, The Last Of Us, Days Gone. Those storyline based games which once you beat them they are done don’t offer much afterwards (one and done) so to speak. This is why Sony keeps dropping newer games/IPs because the lifespan of their games really don’t stretch any farther then their single player experiences. Xbox games on the other hand go the opposite route. The majority of their exclusives have a multiplayer focus which 9 times out of 10 have a longer lifespan. Halo, Gears Of War, Crackdown, Sea Of Thieves, etc. Multiplayer games are supported long term with years of DLC and additional content. This is why Microsoft doesn’t release game after game the way Sony is required to do for their player-base, because the Majority Of Xbox players enjoy the games they get for a longer period of time thanks to Microsoft’s multiplayer focus. Games with a multiplayer focus do give games a longer shelf life. That’s common knowledge. GTA Online is proof of that. (side note .. I finished GTAV at 100% and spent a lot of time to play around the map(purchased it for ps3, ps4 and pc too) but never touched GTA online.. yes I'm a lone Wolf LOL)
Bleep%
@JC LEON PRO PS4 Pro is the most stable. PS4 Standard: Drop in Framerate. PS4 Pro: High res stable. Xbox One X: High res stuck, causes drop in frames occasionally.

Rafae
The game runs great on both honestly, sure it's slightly better on a Pro but if you already have a base PS4 it's not worth the upgrade. It's not night and day differences or anything, I'm surprised more than anything that it looks as great as it does on a standard PS4. Frame dips are common than on the Pro but nothing that makes the game nigh near unplayable. Talking from only my experiences too obviously. Hmm, I’m not so sure, I played it on the base PS4 and the frame rate ruined the experience for me, in so much that I had to purchase an One X. I would say it was pretty much unbearable to play places like Saint Denis on the slim PS4. The frame rate drops to low 20’s and that’s not my cup of tea. On the One X in most cases it stays 30fps with a few drops to 28-29 in some situations(mainly cutscenes for some reason)

Xbox One X runs it in true 4k at a solid 30fps...that is the best way to play it right now.

It does some in Saint Denis, but rarely outside there. Even then, it's definitely not "unplayable". Rafae

I am pretty OCD when it comes to the frame rate and things like that, to me it was unplayable and that’s why I got the One X.
OhHeyBro
If you're going to buy a new console it makes sense to only go for the Xbox One X. Don't see the point in going from PS4 to PS4 Pro. nicktestbranch

Don't see the point in going from PS4 to PS4 Pro. It all depends wheater you have a 4K telly or not, If I didn’t have one I would have got the PRO as it can deliver 1080p at 30fps(locked). So there is a point going from base to Pro, if you want a much improved frame rate.
Omans
I own a PS4 pro and play on a 1440P monitor. The games runs well on a PS4 pro compared to a regular ps4. Also with Black Friday around the corner, you can get a good deal on a PS4 pro bundle.

We Are Ninja
If you already have a PS4, then I wouldn't bother. Sure the Pro is superior hardware, but without a 4K HDR TV, it's not gonna look drastically different than what you already have.
nicktestbranch
I might get a One X as I originally intended. Had a 4k in my room a few months ago until I donated it to my parent's living room as I hated the quality of their old TV. Might be time to show them how far video games have come.
