"That's the way it is - Daniel Lanois"

If you could never picture a 300 pound man with a full beard crying with a game controller in hand, that song (and scene) certainly did it. :(

Ill admit I lost it on that song. I'm not going to lie. 45 year old man trying to hold it in but couldn't. Like I said in another post Arthur grew on me to a point I didn't want to finish the game.

This game took over my number one spot of my all time favorite games to play.

If DLC prequel is ever made I want one on Arthur's early life.

As someone in the comments section of this track pointed out, does anyone get Bully vibes from this one? I sure do.

Not bully vibes but I LOVED this one. Specially in the mission in Valentine with dutch where this song has some extra tunes as well which makes it even better. I was jumping(L2+Square) from one side of the wagon to the other clearing people left and right and while this song was playing I felt like a total badass. Among my favorite moments of the game.

Have anyone figured out what is the song in the launch trailer? I am looking for it since release.

To anyone interested, I figured out what song is this. Turns out it’s the theme from Sadie’s final firefight with the O Driscolls. ❤️

Sorry for bumping, just had to share. This song is very good.

Personally waiting for Mountain Hymn to get extracted, it's the song you hear as the gang leaves the mountains.

I approve of this thread, the soundtrack was astonishingly good.

So many highlights:

-See the Fire in your eyes (the instrumental version when coming down from the mountains end of chapter 1)

-A Quiet Time (this mission was hilarious, and the instrumental track is really groovy!)

-Hammer & Nail (?) - the track that plays in A New Jerusalem when house building, again, hilarious and put a big smile on my face!)

-American Venom (Absolutely epic)

-Unshaken (I was shook)

-All songs in Chapter 6

I didn't know any of the songs or music that would be on the soundtrack, so when I played through the game it was my first time hearing them. Glad I did not go to youtube and look it up first, the majority of the music combined with the dialogue and cinematics left me an emotional wreck. We will not see a soundtrack like this again, or a game like this, in a very long time. My favourite game soundtrack has always been FF7, but it has a new contender now.

Reminds me a little of the music you hear in bike races in Bully.

Cruel, Cruel World by Willie Nelson is just so perfect where it is, I wasn't even mad when it played, I was just like "...yep."

Got choked up when the more somber version of it played during the credits, I attest

Saint Denis Bank Robbery song....

5:40 to 7:50 gives me chills every time, both in-game and off.

Some of my favorites like the Braithewaite manor theme and That's the Way It Is have already been posted. Of those that I don't think have been mentioned yet...

The Prologue Battle theme that plays during the gunfight in the snow at Sadie Adler's house. It sounds like an homage to Ennio Morricone.

Compare it to the song that plays during the final duel of Once Upon a Time in the West (O/T...greatest duel scene in the history of film):

Also the catchy yet slightly ominous guitar music that plays during the end credits. It is at 10:35 below:

Of the songs from the era that the gang sings in camp, probably The Old Scout's Lament. I had Pearson singing that one in Chapter 6, and it could not have been more fitting.

The thing that bothers me the most is that there's barely any music playing when just free-roaming. I always had chills in RDR1 when there was constantly background music playing when not on a mission but this time it's either so subtle that I don't hear it? or it's not a thing at all? Once I get into a gunfight music starts playing but other than that ... I don't know?

Also ... See the Fire in your Eyes ... nothing tops it!

OST is amazing!

There are some moments in free roam that we have good music. I think this game has one of the best Soundtracks in video game history. I have saved 50 songs in my playlist that I loved in this game. No game had this many good music(IMO) except for three GTAs that come close(Firstly VC then SA and then V which also had a phenomenal OST alongside it's radio stations.)

I actually agree here. I wish more music would play when just roaming around. It does indeed happen, just not as much as the first game.

Yeah, the OST is just incredible.   There is no game, and very few movies, that has ever used music this good to enhance emotional plot points the way RDR2 has.   It's hard as hell to play a game through tears, I'm just saying.

And yes, I agree 110% about the incidental music being crappy, by contrast.   There's not nearly as much as in RDR1, and RDR1's incidental music was very evocative, with that spaghetti western Ennio Morricone vibe to it.   RDR2 incidental music, by contrast, just seems content to play a few disjointed notes and chords on a banjo, dobro, or harmonica and say "look:  authenticity."

I was also really, REALLY hoping the gramophones and wax cylinders would come into play.   I was hoping like hell you could find and collect music to play on your camp phonograph.   Dutch/Molly played some absolutely beautiful and beautifully appropriate opera and classical music on one or two occasions, and then the damn thing was a paperweight for the rest of the game.

I forgot the prologue theme, loved that after it kicked in after firing the first shot, it set the tone for how good the music was going to be for the game.
Also the song they all sing around the camp fire, with every camp member joining in, brilliant moment.

That would have been great! Going to send a suggestion to Rock* about it now...!

Totally agree. Those 3 GTA titles + 2 RDR's have the best soundtracks.

I'm currently playing through Epilogue 1 for the first time and I absolutely melted when this track came on. Spoilers for the aforementioned part of the game.

This was it. John slipping back into his old true self. For better and for worse. It was our first big gunfight of the entire game as John. The circumstances behind it were also just and honorable, defending ranchers and good folk from bad guys.

It was perfection. Up until this point, RDR2's music was very different compared to the first game. It had some callbacks and leitmotifs, but this was the track that was the triumphant return to form. I can't wait to hear the rest of the music in the Epilogue!
