Slonitram

A thread in honor of the fantastic soundtrack this game has.

Recommended Posts

Slonitram

Woody Jackson and the other artists involved brought an amazing soundtrack that really gave life to this game. Playing it without music simply eliminates a huge chunk of the experience, at least for me. I hold this OST right up there with other fantastic game soundtracks such as Shadow of the Colossus and the Silent Hill games.

From the ambient guitar you get when you mount your horse and ride across the map to the action tracks you get in missions, the whole score is simply a fantastic western joy to listen to. Let's also not forget to mention Unshaken by D'Angelo and Cruel, Cruel World by Willie Nelson.

What are your personal favorite tracks?

I love all the ambient tracks when you're wandering the wilderness. Wish those were on youtube.

I wish I could make it play whenever I want, but I like that I'll just be chilling observing a vista and it'll play some "chilling observing a vista" music

Or I'll roll past a group, then decide to stop and turn around and the soundtrack hits a "sh*ts about to happen" tone

The dynamic soundtrack is so subtle yet amazing

Haven't heard a lot of Tracks, just, as mentioned, some bits and pieces added in for Ambiance.

One thing-now and then I hear soe guy singing.  Don't remember the wrods but it would be along the lines of say Merle Haggard just stting around without a Guitar singing a phrase or two from some old Western song about the Prairies or whatnot.  Always happens when Arthur is out alone-I cannot be sure if it is Ambience, Arthur hiumself singing the only songe he knows part of or someone nearby I am missing.

Arthur sings some song about old Otis (whoever that is)

"The cowardly killer that shot mr miller has laid poor Otis in his grave, Hyah!"

Some of the gang will sing the whole song in camp, you can join in if you catch it

Thanks, might be him then-it's just the way it comes off it sonds like a scene in a movie where something happens and someone sings a song in an overlaid soundtrack that does not quite match the sound in the movie, if that makes any sense?

I will try to pay more attention to the words instead of riding in circles looking for the Singer lol.

Yeah, I was riding along out in the middle of nowhere, and heard this loud ass whistling,  looked around and realized it was Arthur whistling a tune

Here's the full thing with timestamps

Outlaws From the West - when that song hit for the first time I must have froze on the controller out of sheer excitement because I knew at that moment, I was really playing RDR2 and the track was perfect for what was going down. I still hate R* but this all has been giving me a reason to appreciate all this f*cking hard work, regardless.

This theme is extremely anxiety inducing, i LOVE IT.

Makes every encounter that much more serious. More immersive.

If I ever get stranded in Dixieland, this will be on my head. No words. So depressing, so beautiful.

The music in this game makes everything better. It's brilliant. It always fits the mood, especially what plays in chapter 5 after.. Well, if you've got that far, you know what I'm talking about.

The music is superb.

I'm still on chapter 2 (taking my time) and Arthur's just collected a debt for Herr Strauss. While I was looting the guy's house for his personal belongings, and the guy was standing there scared saying don't take my stuff, the music was sad and mournful, like it was taking his side in this encounter, not mine. Absolutely brilliant music design choice.

Earlier on, Arthur was walking around a small building site just to the west of Valentine, freshly abandoned after a family argument and shootout. The ambient music riff was terrific and I stayed there until sunset just listening to it. The next day I made Arthur go there again but the music had gone. Anyone know the name of that audio track? I hope it crops up again later.

"That's the way it is - Daniel Lanois"

If you could never picture a 300 pound man with a full beard crying with a game controller in hand, that song (and scene) certainly did it. :(

I still can't find the soundtrack for the bank heist in ST Denis. When they are shooting through the front windows of the bank. Anyone know it??

Having played the first game I was totally expecting a “music scene” halfway through the story. I think it is already a staple of the series.

I thought to myself, “how can they top the Mexico scene from the first game, it is fantastic”. Silly me, lol.

The scene with the song “Unshaken” is simply amazing for so many reasons, I cant even put into words. Truly memorable.

All of the ambient music is top notch. The wanted songs, the dynamic soundtrack, even the silent moments, when all you hear is the nature, everything sounds great. The sound design in this game is 10/10 IMO. One of the reasons this game is so immersive.

Right now one of the favorite songs which I could identify by name is The Disaster.

Have anyone figured out what is the song in the launch trailer? I am looking for it since release.

I've had music turned off from the very first moment. Not because I don't like it, but ingame music ruins the immersion for me, especially in 1899.

There are no speakers in every tree, nor do the protagonists carry iPods or any otjer music playback device, so where does the music come from? Exactly. No where.

It's called "dynamic score" for a reason. It's not supposed to play from any device, it just surrounds you in certain moments, just like in GTA V.

Anyway, the score that plays during the Saint Denis bank heist is probably my favorite. It just stuck with me the most after hearing it initially. It really made you feel like the gang really f*cked up this time after Dutch decided to go for Angelo Bronte and then the bank.

Love this track. There's just such a brooding and menacing vibe to it.

And this one. F*cking hell...

Bro, if I can give you an unrequested advice, just turn it back on. These dynamic scores are really something else, you should give it a try at the very least.

I take your word for it, dude. But to me personally, a game like this is much more immersive without music. To be honest, the music would only distract me in my gameplay.

There are few games I play without music, and this is one of them.
