Grotti Vigilante
Now I don't know about you lot but to me it seems like GTA V isn't as well regarded as GTA IV these days, and I'm not sure if it's because of a genuine downgrade or because of a gaming trend where the latest release in a series is always bad until the next one comes along and suddenly it's gold that we thought was bronze. But either way I've heard a lot of people on the forums like GTA IV very much, and I can understand why. There are a lot of things it did better than GTA V such as the storyline, protagonists and ragdoll physics (seriously, who ever said "I don't want to be able to jump out of a car and bounce around half way down the road"?). But I feel that some of us may be forgetting the merits of GTA V in comparison, such as how the internet and phone has been expanded on a lot more, how the game feels more open and alive with how all three protagonist actually do things while you don't play them, how the driving is somewhat better, and how the map is much more diverse in terms of geography. So personally, what do you think GTA V did better than GTA IV? TheSantader25, Nik0 Bellic, RyanDri3957V and 2 others 4

Sleepwalking
1) Graphics, draw distance and colours. You may say GTA V is released five years later, however both GTA IV and V designed and optimised for same old 2005 hardware. The enhancements in graphics are simply amazing. Also GTA IV is too gray, with V they remember using colours. 2)Vehicle variety. GTA V offers tonnes of cars, boats, planes, bikes, even submarine! Also you are able to modify your vehicle which is not available in GTA IV. 3)A bigger and more versatile map. Map is consist of city, rural areas, forests and ocean. You are able to dive and explore underwater. 4)You can switch between protagonists almost instantly, back in GTA IV you have to change games. 5)More personalization for protagonists. Clothes, hair styles and tattoos. 6)Better driving physics, especially for motorcycles. 7)Able to buy vehicles from internet. You can also store your planes and boats. 8)You are able to buy properties. 9)Random events happening in open world. 10)Weapon variety, you can also modify your weapons and put silencers on them. Also weapon wheel made switching between weapons easy. 11)Better & more exciting missions thanks to protagonist switch system. 12)Better multiplayer TheSantader25, Disciple Four, Pizzahut and 3 others
.Ryan.
I binned the last thread because it was a complete mess. I don't mind keeping this one around as long as people respect the subject matter. Anyway.. -The in game economy. We can sit here all day arguing about physics, A.I etc, but the one thing we can all agree on is GTA V made massive strides to the economy system. Though I wish we could've bought some safehouses and more garages, but I appreciate the things R* let us buy. GTA IV had Autoerotica.com which was relatively useless outside of 1 mission. I like that we can buy our own vehicles. Gives a bit of legitimacy and ownership instead of having to steal all the time. i never modify cars I steal. Only the ones I buy. Omaestre
1. Levity of mood for one thing, this one is less serious without going Saints Row, especially with the addition of Trevor to the mix. 2. Fun and memorable missions. This may also be my bad memory, but the heists especially brought back what was missing, crazy missions with good payoffs. The only mission I remember being on the same level of fun in GTA IV was "three leaf clover" 3. Bigger world, more vehicles and weapons. 4. Random events are a good idea 5. Animals, something that has always been missing in other games but done really well in this one. Kumieee, TheSantader25 and Reyiz Kovan
bish0p2004
I like GTA V better than GTA IV, but then again I thought GTA IV was a step back from San Andreas in terms of environment variety and sandbox gameplay. I do appreciate a lot of the details in GTA IV though compared with V, like the A.I., ragdolls, and side activities which I thought would be transferred over to V. I like everything else better in V though and t's whole presentation is on a different level. Jokeman123, TheSantader25 and Kumieee

Jimmy_Leppard
GTA V did everything better than GTA IV except fighting mechanics. You had to really fight a ped and work to knock him out. In GTA V you can pretty much knock anybody out with 4 punches. There are way less fighting animations than in GTA IV also. TheSantader25
The Underwater Area in this game is very detailed. Here, The game basically did what IV was supposed to do which was improving what San Andreas started. It's a bit disappointing to not have the freedom to go underwater in a sandbox game that wants to deliver the sense of freedom. Lioshenka
1. Countryside. GTA 4 had none, so 5 is a clear winner here. 2. Physics. The cars handle much better, especially on the grass. No more boats on wheels. 3. Protagonist is no longer ejected from his seat at a every tiny bump. 4. Protagonists run faster. 5. The game runs faster on older PCs. 6. Planes - unfortunately the map design doesn't make obtaining and using them as relaxing as SA. 7. Colours! Finally no more sh*t tinted sunsets and grey tinted days. That said, GTA 5 had plenty of faults, but it trimphs over 4 on a lot of levels. TheSantader25
A really convenient thing this game started in comparison to IV and many previous R* games is removing the "Comeback between X clock and Y clock" Missions. Now when you walk up to the mission, time automatically passes to the desired time, instead of sending you away for later or forcing you to attend a meeting when you're in the middle of something else. EHM
As someone who's favorite GTA games were VC, SA and IV, (And who felt pretty let down by V, yeah I'm that kind of complainer) I think the entire Los Santos portion of the GTA V map is beautiful, hands down the best out of any GTA game, also the lighting and weather effects I think are far beyond any other GTA. TheSantader25
I'm glad R* got rid of the whole locked map thing. It was a tradition in 3D era which kinda sometimes actually made sense(GTA III) but with the HD era R* shouldn't have locked the map because they obviously wanted to get rid of some of the weird stuff and be more "real". Thankfully it didn't happen in V because if it did, it wouldn't make sense at all . it's an insult to people who want freedom. At least in the 3D era there were cheats for surviving there but in IV... In RDR2 it obviously makes sense. They should ONLY do this if it makes sense for the story. Lock n' Stock
Improved graphics and details (obviously). More variety of weapons and vehicles, including the return of planes and tanks. Far better customisation options, like clothing, tattoos and vehicle. Multiple protagonists to switch between and play as at any time. Bigger and more diverse map. Property managemant, even if it was half-arsed. Kumieee and TheSantader25
Liberty-TG
For me GTA IV IS CLEARLY better than GTA V,but what V did better was: More vehicles Airplanes(GTA IV hasn't airplanes beacause the map was too small and it was in Liberty City) Customisation of cars Possibilty to save the game through the phone Three characters(It's boring that GTA V characters are all friens and aren't perspectives of the same world, but in GTA IV to "change characters" you need to change game to GTA IV to GTA EFCL
silly_nate
I remember before the game came out, all the trailers and screens got me hyped to get lost in the woods. TheSantader25
-Vehicle Customization:There are no excuses for IV to lack this feature specially when you realize Niko has Brucie and his mechanic as a friend. The Stevie Import/Export missions and Brucie car delivery missions could be far more interesting and varied as well if we had a feature like this in the game. -Vehicle Variety and quantity:While you would think IV could fix the lack of customization with more varied and special vehicles the game only includes 123 vehicles. Pretty much half of what SA has to offer(212) and far less than V(Without any updates V includes around 300). The game also lacks special vehicles like the tow truck or cargobob which could be used for special purposes and trailers can't even be attached to trucks. Brucie even teases car customisation at one point and I think I would've preferred when he becomes a friend instead of getting that sh*tty helicopter ride as a perk (who even uses that?) if we got some special parts for customisation. Maybe a special customised vehicle. It feels like that vehicle customisation was going to be in the game at one point, but got cut for whatever reason. Oh well. Atleast GTA V's is pretty top notch. XNOR
-The ability to save photos taken by the in-game camera in your PC. SA had this, but IV didn't. Glad that V brings it back through Snapmatic, and allows to view them in-game. The only disappointing thing is that the storage limit is too low, considering that it's shared between 5 different playable characters. -More save slots. -Garages. Not only that they're more secure than parking your cars outside, but the ability to spawn special cars (at least for the CG version) is a nice touch. Too bad there's only one 4-car garage per character, compared to GTA Online's massive garages with mechanics. TheSantader25 and Kumieee
TheSantader25
This one might be subjective but anyways. The Driving:If you're about to go for a realistic approach, do it right. Don't make the suspension so exaggerated that almost every car suddenly feels like a lowrider and don't turn that handling like the car is a boat. Or simply don't downgrade the top speed. GTA V might have Arcade style driving but it achieves what it wants to do. To be arcady. In a game where you drive for half the time, the driving should be done right and enjoyable. It does not matter if it's arcady or realistic. Edited November 23, 2018 by TheSantader25
DirtCheap
I already mentioned this in the last thread but I want to mention it again. The missions. IV may have had one of the best stories in the series, but I can't deny that most missions are not fun. The missions in IV feel really repetitive. They mostly consist of "Drive to point X, kill the goons, mission complete". I never really had the thrill as I did with SA when I was playing the missions. The cutscenes and dialogue may be superb, but the missions feel all the same and I never really have fun playing them. There are a good few missions like Three Leaf Clover and Truck Hustle, but it takes a good long to reach these missions and it feels like forever when I finally get to play these glorious missions. The other thing that annoyed me about the IV missions was that R* didn't really look at SA for some inspiration (they could of easily done a replica of Just Business). Now let's look at V's missions. While the plot behind the game isn't fantastic, I have to admit that I genuinely enjoyed every second of the missions. I really enjoyed doing the heists. I love that R* actually put mission music in the game (can't get enough of We Were Set Up). I love that the missions that the missions have this feel that everything is happening in real time (back then in the 3D universe and in IV, when a mission started with an intense start, you felt like the character was just going 'Oh yeah. Have to do that'. But in V, you feel like the characters are more urgent rather than casual). The missions could also get so intense that I could actually feel like I was in the characters' shoes. I honestly have to say that R* really did a great job with the missions (yes, there are missions like Masks/Boiler Suits and Getaway Car, but I honestly overlooked these missions as I was having too much fun to care; also the yoga mission may have had a boring start but the drug sequence was excellent). Journey_95
Actually outside this forum GTA V is far more popular (sadly)..anyway I guess the mission variety was better. At times that felt forced with missions like Monkey Business but overall GTA V did have more variety in missions I suppose

I may be wrong here, but there is no way that GTA V can run on older PC's... OT: There were of course, some things that GTA V did better GTA IV. 1. The missions: I'm gonna be honest here, but I found some of GTA IV's missions repetitive. They were fun to do if you really think about it but comparing them to GTA V's missions, GTA V wins at that point. In almost every GTA V mission, I feel like I am in a action movie not to mention that they have songs playing in the background which makes it even more fun and action-packed. 2. Customization: This game has a lot of things to customize, vehicles, weapons, you name it. 3. Quicksaving: This saved my ass a lot tbh. If you're lazy like me, and don't want to drive to safehouses to save at times, you got the quicksave feature. Be careful not to use it while you got the cops on you...if that's possible. I'll think of more, but that's probably it. TheSantader25
