I believe Ego unlocks after Americans at Rest but I agree with @jimmyoneshot and think they put it there so people can get their free horses.  I don't think Arthur would go on an overnight hunt with so much going on nor would Hosea ask him to after giving him three objectives.

I hadn't thought about the party as being the reason of the snooze at the General Store but that does make sense.

Good point but those objectives aren't of any real urgency.

I do Exit after Sean's party. It's a good break in the action and Arthur's dialogue stating that he could do with a break after getting into a few fights, saving a drunk idiot on a bridge from an oncoming train, collecting a bounty, and killing numerous people to rescue Sean makes a lot of sense.

In Polite Society, I think they fell asleep because of the whiskey and stay away from the Saloon to not blow the girls' cover.

I'm with Psycho on this when he says it feels like it's the game's introduction to Valentine.

I always head canon during Polite Society that Charles, Javier and Bill are in the other saloon.

Uncle as lazy as he is wouldn't sleep for three days next to a wagon. The guy likes the booze too much and seeing him not make regular trips to the whiskey or beer box seems unrealistic.

I wasn't aware you could get away with NOT killing the woman inside. She's always grabbed the gun in my playthroughs haha. That was quite a smooth getaway tbf, like the plan of running up the stairs and jumping off the roof also, very slick :)

Ye it's a really awkward thing to do. You have to sort of stand far away from her, lock onto her and keep hammering whatever button it is to 'dismiss' her so that when the option enables it gets selected before she goes for the gun. Sometimes Arthur aims at her by mistake, if he does release the lock on button and keep locking onto her again until he doesn't

I also noticed something - If you ride across the rope bridge just to the north of Valentine while escaping the law and then head west towards Cumberland Falls which is on the way to Micah from here when you get there the random encounter with the High Stakes Treasure map guy occurs. This happened 3 times in a row when I tested it. His first map leads to the 2nd one which is right behind the falls too which is very handy.

For me, the theme for early chapter 2 is Arthur and gang needs to start making some money. If Polite Society is done first than Arthur knows the easiest way to make money is through bounties. For me,Snake Oil, Ellie Anne Swan Bounty and Money Lending are the lowest money makers and should be done before Social Call. Arthur doesn't know about how much money the gang will be making through Social Call, Spines of America, treasure hunting, house robberies, Pastoral Scene or the train robbery.

Something I have noticed is that the guy with the map does not spawn until you do All that Glitters.  That at least takes one random encounter off the board if your trying to find a specific one.

Guys, what's the mission that unlocks We Loved Once and True?

It's crazy that after two years Chapter 2 it's still giving us trouble.

After Paying a Social Call I think. Susan will tell you in camp that one of the girls saw Mary Linton sniffing around which unlocks the letter in Arthur's table. However I do think one of the prerequisites is Money Lending and Other Sins too.

Thanks Dan, those middle missions in Chapter 2 are messing up my order. Now I think I know where I can accommodate Mary Linton's mission.

I don't interact with the letter instantly as it automatically starts the dreaded Thomas Downes mission too. I usually do that and Mary's mission after Blessed are the Meek.

I found the random encounter with High Stakes Treasure map after Blessed Are the Meek. Old man will be on a cliff cross from the trapper near Riggs Station. I test it three  times and appears every single time. I went to the trapper in Riggs Station after I did some hunting in Cattail Pond. I got the 2nd map in Cumberland Falls when I went back to Cattail Pond to hunt a Big Horn Ram so I can return to the camp with the Carcass.

Yeah, Strauss send you to do the mission and I don't like it. I usually pospone the Thomas Downes one as long as I can.

I also save up a separate file until that point and don't do the mission, kinda like an alternative timeline where Arthur never got TB and the gang live happily ever after near Valentine LOL

Yes Horseshoe is a brilliant camp, well hidden behind woods and on a cliff and has a feeling of serenity.

I liked the camps in Chapter 3 and 4 too. I simply detest Beaver Hollow and I think meh about Colter lol.

Another thing, I don't recommend doing the new stranger mission "To the Ends of Earth" I try doing We Loved Once And True III in one of my save files and William was there asking for plants at the Chelonian's camp 🤦‍♂️

He spawns in a few places to my knowledge.

Near Riggs Station, near Cumberland Falls, and between Strawberry and Monto's Rest.

I don't get that glitch. To the Ends of Earth will appear south of Twin Stack Pass up the hill. On the big game map, find The Heartlands and go up hill between T and L. This stranger mission will appear before Spines of America.

Are you guys on PC or PS4? I just got that glitch yesterday, maybe bad luck on my behalf. Seamus table and Micah knife when playing Five Finger Fillet tend to glitch in my game aswell

That's something I'll likely leave for John anyway. Can it be done in the Epilogue?

Gonna post a new Chapter 2 order here tonight/tomorrow. Very happy with it I think.

I've noticed a new bug that some of you might be interested in and think I know the cause - I've always spoke to Dutch after every mission because after almost all of them Arthur tells him what happened and he has something to say about it. However sometimes when I'm doing another replay talking to Dutch results in him and Arthur just saying one of their generic "how's it going?" lines to each other. I never knew the reason for this.

Recently I had done a full playthrough making savegames just before the start of each Chapter so I could replay them easily. I reloaded chapter 2 to replay that a couple of days ago and noticed the same issue with Dutch and some other camp interactions. It was like I had already done that interaction so the game had ticked it off so that it wouldn't happen again. A while back I heard that in some games there is something called 'Save Game leakage' or some other term along those lines where if you play one save and then load another it will unintentionally carry stuff over from the later save.

I think this is what is going on here. So I deleted all of my saves and restarted my computer and replayed Chapter 1 and 2 today and yesterday and now I get the dialogue as I should. So it seems if you are doing a replay then it is best to clear out all of your saves before restarting because it's entirely possible even more things transfer over. Having the option to load a save directly from the start menu might've been a solution for this otherwise you will likely be selecting 'Story' which will load your latest save that will likely be the furthest progress and then loading another earlier save like I was which will mistakenly transfer stuff over. Or just loading a very early save such as at the start of Chapter 1 and then loading another save after that may 'reset' these flags or whatever remembers your dialogue choices you have used.

I don't have that problem anymore. I have found out that the generic dialogue happens if you reload the same saved game file twice in one sitting. For example, if you save in the noon after waking up after Sean's party, Arthur will tell Dutch about how Blackwater looks heavy and it's a no go area. Yet if you reload that save again instantly, you'll get generic greeting dialogue.

I like the unique dialogue in camp that Arthur has after every mission usually to Dutch and the people he was on the mission with. It makes it more interesting.

For example, after you do Aftermath of Genesis you can talk to Dutch and Hosea after their conversation about sending someone to the Adler Ranch and tell them both that you and Charles caught deer. Dutch will even tell you to get ready for the O'Driscoll camp.

Yeah there's a lot of interesting dialogue in that first Chapter that I'm sure most people who have played the game aren't even aware of. I always make a point of speaking with the gang members before Old Friends and Aftermath of Genesis. The Adler Ranch dialogue is the same as you've mentioned but as someone who does Old Friends before Aftermath of Genesis, you can instead talk to Hosea about the raid at Ewing Basin. Arthur mentions that the business with the O'Driscolls got "pretty bloody". Hosea responds with "I knew it would, and now we're robbing a train?". Arthur tells Hosea to speak to Dutch about that one - presumably because Dutch is in charge and is doing the planning for that score. What's also interesting is that if you were to do it in my order, you can speak with Tilly who complains that she's starving, and asks if Pearson has anything cooking out there. Arthur says he'll check on him in a bit (this dialogue only takes place if you complete Old Friends first, obviously). I like how Rockstar really thought ahead and implemented the appropriate dialogue depending on your mission order.

I've never tried it the opposite way (i.e your order) but maybe I'll try it in another playthrough somewhere down the line.

I always do Aftermath of Genesis before Old Friends as feeding the camp due to the situation would be a main priority.

But I've also heard the dialogue you mentioned. Also you have Bill, Micah and Lenny roaming camp and you get dialogue about the train with them.

Yeah I've seen that too. I don't think it matters in which of those missions you do first, because they both make sense either way.

I feel it's the same during the course of the game when multiple missions are unlocked.

Like the start of Chapter 2. You have three missions to start with, it's just up to the player on how they proceed. I usually do Who is Not Without Sin first to get it out of the way as I spend the first day hunting near camp so it's convenient.

I agree.

Either is plausible, it's just up to the individual themselves! I start with Who Is Not Without Sin also. My first day is pretty laid back. I hunt, gather a few herbs and do some chores around camp whilst interacting with the gang. It's a relaxing start to the chapter, imo.

If you do Aftermath frist the girls will ask you if you talked to Pearson. For me it's an indication that Old Friends should be done first.

I was actually thinking of changing my chapter 3 main mission order to exactly this on my current playthrough based on some things I noticed in my last one. Yours is almost identical to mine except I do Preaching Forgiveness after Course of True Love 3 usually.

The reason I do it there is because when Lenny asks Arthur what he is up to at the start of Preaching Arthur says to Lenny that he is "just searching for all this Hillbilly gold that Dutch and Hosea think is just out there waiting to be stolen" which he is doing during Course of True Love 3 and it turns out in Chapter 6 that Beau and Penelope have the Braithwaite gold.

HOWEVER the more I think about it Arthur says "Dutch AND Hosea" and if you look at those early missions Hosea isn't even involved in looking for the gold or money until during and after Advertising and hasn't even mentioned it to Arthur yet. There is a random encounter in camp where Hosea can tell you to go and look into the two families because him and Dutch think there is money in it but that isn't really concrete and trustworthy because it is random and I think when Arthur and the gang mention things during missions they are usually referring to events and dialogue of previous missions. When he says this line he could also be referring to the fact that he's disappointed about not getting much money during Horse Flesh For Dinner.

Also when you do it in the order you posted, when Arthur and Lenny are riding out Arthur says that he met the raiders when they attacked him and Sadie during Female Suffrage and doesn't mention the fact that they attacked him and Hosea during Advertising which I thought seems strange.

BUT after thinking about it more he could've simply been talking about the FIRST time he met them and I also always thought it did seem strange if you do Preaching before Advertising because then during Advertising the raiders are more upset about some stolen moonshine than their main base being destroyed.

I'm gonna try it like this too on my current playthrough 👍

The only issue is after Preaching Forgiveness time gets set to 6 - 7pm and Magicians For Sport is a daytime mission which resets time to early in the day (I think but will need to double check this) and Dutch waits outside his tent and you can't even go to bed without him shouting you over. So I think I'd have to come up with a reason to leave camp after Preaching and then return the next day. This fits fine because Arthur looks like he is preparing to leave camp again at the end of Preaching as he is left facing the camp exit. The perfect side mission for this would be Iniquities of History 2 because it's likelt the only side missionArthur has left from this chapter at this point and during Preaching Lenny talks about how racist Lemoyne is and Arthur says he "hasn't noticed" which doesn't make sense if Arthur has done Iniquities 2 before this because it is about a race slaver.

So I'm thinking this:-

Something I have also been thinking about is moving Billy Midnight into Chapter 4 somewhere rather than Chapter 3. The main reason is after you duel him there is a very good chance that the train you are riding will take you straight into Saint Denis and at the start of Chapter 4 it really looks like that is the first time Arthur and Dutch have been to Saint Denis in the cutscene so that wouldn't make sense.

You can avoid this but it involves either jumping to your horse from the train which is awkward and fails more often than not unless you are lucky and there isn't much time to actually do it or just faceplanting off the train, both of which seem strange things to have to do to avoid this.

There is also the fact that in the order of photos you get Midnight is third and difficulty wise he is faster than Granger and Hernandez. I have recently moved Granger and Hernandez to Chapter 3 because Sadies harmonica request during Female Suffrage is found in Granger's house and Granger's cutscene suggests he is the first gunslinger you face. Granger is located directly on the way to Strawberry to get the Winton Holmes debt so it makes sense to do Flaco while you are in Strawberry too because that's the closest you come to his area for the rest of the game. And after you return to camp from Strawberry Chapter 3 is almost done anyway.
