GTA V online on a 40GB PS3?

Hi,

 

I just wanted to know, is the GTA V version on the PS3 free to play online, and if so, it can run fine on a 2007 PS3 which has a 40GB drive?

 

I have the xbox 360 copy, I never could play it online, did require a subscription. I'm thinking more of the PS2 servers, you know, Need for Speed, I remember playing that online in December 2003. Obviously a lot has changed since then.
