Can someone please tell me the exact moment Arthur...

... gets sick?

Unfortunately I was spoiled by a video suggestion on YouTube, so now I know he dies. I've done 2 missions in Chapter 4, but that's it so far.

Please can someone tell me when Arthur starts getting noticeably sick/diagnosed? I want to make a separate save before that happens so I can play as him while still healthy.

I know you play as John in the Epilogue, so I'm presuming Chapter 5/6 he gets ill?

Thanks so much.

For me, it was at the start of Chapter 6 when going for a mission in Saint Denis.

I suggest making a separate save now if I were you.

It’s a loan share mission where the man is sick and you get his blod on you - from that moment you are getting sick.

There's a mission early in chapter 6 where you meet Sadie at the tavern in Saint Denis. The issue is the "sickness" triggers when you get within a block of the tavern, so you'd have to avoid the area completely.

Yeah, it’s easier to not do the previous mission that triggers the appearence of this one. But really he gets sick earlier than that, the symptoms are just more subtle.

Currently on my second go of the game, and now that I know what i'm looking for, he begins showing symptoms in chapter 2. Not symptoms like full-on debuffs, but a lot more coughing than I could remember.

Thomas Downes spits in his mouth.  That's for sure it.  I remember thinking how f*cking gross that a sick dude spit in his mouth.  Didnt think anything would come of it.

Are his coughs extreme in Ch.2? I am on my second playthrough (Ch.2) as well and if I read the letter from Mary, I am forced to visit Downes right after reading her letter. I want to Free Roam and do everything available before he gets sick and looks sick as he does in Chapter 6. I was planning on making a Save File before the St.Denis Bank Robbery in Ch.4 and finish everything, but if he starts coughing extremely even way before that. Might have to wait and continue playing on Ch.2 and not progress any further in the Story.

EDIT: I did not notice much to his coughs on my first playthrough as I did not know he was sick and all. I actually got surprised when he learned that he has TB.. :( I noticed his coughs in Ch.5 and his bad health, but did not thought of something deadly..

I'm currently in the first epilogue, and will see the game through to the end credits. But as soon as those credits roll, I'll be starting my 2nd playthrough and stopping shortly into chapter 6 to mop up all the side missions and such as Arthur before he starts showing any real symptoms.

So I'd say when you make the move from Shady Belle, create your separate save.

He begins to show symptoms at the end of Chapter 5, just before Chapter 6. He starts coughing and his skin starts turning pale. The moment it starts effecting gameplay is when you get into Chapter 6 proper and go to St Denis and trigger the mission.

This, I know :) That is why I am going to have a Save File right before the St.Denis Bank Robbery Ch.4. I was wondering if he starts coughing randomly during Ch.2-3-4 while playing? Some claim he does, I never noticed this during my first playthrough. Noticed first when he really got sick in Ch.5.

Ah, hmm, that I don't recall. I know there's an optional activity in chapter 2 I think it was where he coughs, but that could be because of smoke (there's a big fire). I don't think the symptoms start showing in a big way, especially when free roaming, till chapter 6.

As long as Arthur does not cough every minute or so while Free Roaming, I am happy :) Little cough in Side-Missions and Main-Missions does not bother me since he is suppose to be sick. Just want a healthy Arthur while doing other stuff, collectibles, hunting, robberies and such.:D

Thank you for your reply!

He is already coughing toward the end of Chapter 2. Not bad, but it's there. I'm on my second play through, so I am .listening for it.

I've completely skipped the Thomas Downes mission. Arthur has never went to Downes ranch at all and Strauss tells me before the Valentine bank robbery that Thomas Downes has died and his wife will be paying the debt. Arthur says he didn't look too well last time he seen him which makes no sense since Arthur doesn't know what Thomas Downes looks like or who he is besides his location. I wonder who he gets TB from now?

Downes is the guy that stops you when you're beating up Tommy early in chapter 2.

i dont think you can skip the thomas downes mission, at one point it was the only yellow mission available for me.

I skipped Downes. Its completely missable for me. I'm in chapter 3 with Downes still available to collect money from and the Valentine bank robbery for Bill. If I start the robbery Strauss will come up and tell me the debtor Thomas Downes has died and his wife is handling the debt now. As part of the mission I have to go to Downes ranch and collect the money.

I know but Arthur doesn't know who that was.

Weeell.. fairly certain that Arthur mentions he knows OF him when Strauss brings him up. So they have met. And Downes is coughing in the cutscene.

He gets the disease on a Chapter 2 Strauss's "collect the debt"  mission, from Mr. Downes (or something like that), but he only discovers that he is sick on Chapter 5 (right after returning from Guarm I guess) visiting a doctor in Saint Denis.

I finished both Epilogues both wanted to continue playing Arthur at a time when the camp was happy and Arthur seemed fine. I had a manual save created after "A fine night of Debauchery" half way through chapter four. This seemed perfect.

That mission is missable in my game so there must be a few ways he can get TB.

I noticed his appearance before that mission - when i was in St. Denis getting a haircut, and thought wtf Arthur actually looks like a junkie, then like 5 mins later I went to do the Sadie mission and got sick proper.

If you pay close attention he'll start getting a very slight cough in chapter 3 I believe... But he starts getting notably sickly in appearance throughout chapter 5... Then, the sickness full on hits in 6.

Arthur knows thomas downes, you already met him. Maybe they will say you got it from him, when he broke up the bar fight in valentine?

I know that but how is Arthur supposed to know that was him? When he arrives at the ranch he asks if he's Thomas Downes but anyway back to the Valentine fight, he didn't cough in his face and Tommy would be infected as well as anyone he was around that day.

It will be interesting to see what happens.
