How to: Gain Weight

Recommended Posts

CharmCitysKing

I have eaten about 10 Plain Venison and I'm STILL Underweight. My friend went into the Saloon and literally ate 50 cans of baked beans and it stayed Underweight still!

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You need to sleep or fast travel to see a change.

i wonder about the same. 90% underweight. it decrease/increase the health/stamina about 5,25% in teh statistics, but there was a point inthe game where it was about 6-7% . can you even go more skinny?

I guess I have to spend all my playing time just eating if I dont want Arthur to be underweight🤔

I ate like 5-10 bars of chocolate every night before sleeping and went from minimum weight to maximum weight in about 7 or 8 days.

I shaved everything off and now I look like Christian Bale preparing for his role as Dick Cheney.

Ahem...

What chapter are you in? Asking for no reason...

Otherwise, eat at least 2-3 times a day at regular intervals and get enough sleep. I wake, eat. Eat to top off my cores later on. Eat before sleep. Normally didn't have to worry about weight. I'm unsure if quality of food matters, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Would you show us a picture of your Arthur? I dont think I ever saw him fat.

Anyway thanks for the tips, I'll try that later!

BTW I really think this mechanic needs balancing/polishing. Right now I guess 90% of the playerbase must be underweight. While we are here discussing strategies and exploits to get overweight. IMO it could use a little work so to feel somewhat more realistic.

I unfortunately can't provide photographic evidence because I never actually saved, I was just f*cking around with hair tonics and figured I might as well experiment with the weight system.

I agree that it needs work. What's particular is that my horse barely needs an apple and a carrot a day to stay fit while Arthur literally has to eat a Bison and a half to maintain is weight. It's a bit ridiculous.

Well, I've found that eating a piece of meat, a biscuit, a cracker, and a piece of bread for breakfast in the morning...the same for lunch around noon....then the same PLUS a whole bag of candy and 3 chocolate bars before sleeping...does allow me to gain weight.  But it's really freaking tedious and I'm not really Sure it's worth the effort.

It does work, though.  Mostly.

This like me in real life. I eat healthy foods often but I don't seem to gain any weight. Maybe it's because I'm not eating high calorie foods like steak or chicken daily, or it could be the regular exercise that I do.

There are four weights: underweight, average, perfect and overweight. The more weight you have the more damage absorbtion you get.

Just like real life, in this game you can't gain a lot of weight immediately. If you eat a lot of food at once IRL, you won't gain much out of it and will probably throw up. Same thing applies here.

To gain weight in RDR2 you have to be regular about eating food. Sleeping once a day helps too, because that's when your weight updates. 2 big dinners and 5 snacks a day works for me. DON'T EAT THEM ALL AT ONCE! Eat them every few minutes or so. By doing this all the time, it says that my character has a "perfect" weight. If you want to be overweight you need to do that + eat a lot of candies and chocolate.

Bear in mind that character's weight has nothing to do with health and stamina cores. You have to eat food even when all your cores are full.

If you still can't gain weight your character might be sick and that means you have to eat double everything to gain weight.

I hope the system gets changed,i dont eat 3 times a day or sleep that often, but i eat MUCH more then i have to to keep my bars filled and im underweight all the time. Imo you should be able to decide if you want fat or skinny arthur, atm its more like a challenge to get even normal weight.

In late game I think it’s not possible for Arthur to maintain his weight.

Yeah something definitely seems off with this.  I feel like I have Arthur eating a pretty reasonable amount and yet he's always underweight too.  It doesn't really matter, I guess, but I don't think we should be having to really go out of our way to make him gain weight.

Looks of the face of arthur ...not only the weight say thats was bad with arthur in the follow line of the story ...its a little important detail like much others for the storyline and you can nothing doing against it in the later part after chapter 3 against it.

I still haven't figured out how to gain weight. I eat all the time and the game constantly tells me I'm underweight. I'm hearing from people that eating candy (like chocolate) will speed up the process so I guess I

ll try that.

They really should patch and lower the amount he needs to eat to maintain his weight. I like the realism, but there are times things just happen too long to remember to give a decent meal. That, or better still, a red hunger icon flashing on his stamina or health core like the ones for the horse to tell us he should eat or he's going to lose weight (or even health or stamina).

Setting up and tearing down camp forces an update to weight. So eating in between these actions back to back makes it easy to gain weight.

Honestly, Rockstar should add a little icon that flashes over the Health Core to let you know it’s “time to eat,” to help maintain your weight. Similar to when the brush flashes over the Horse Health Core.

My impression is you need to eat often rather than a lot in one go to stop your weight from dropping. If you have a lot in one go I think the impact of each item you eat diminishes. I had like 10 pieces of big game in one go and it did very little but eating 3 pieces spread out over a full in game day seemed to have a much bigger impact on the health and stamina modifier stats. So if you skin and cook an animal it’s a good idea to stow some of the cooked meat and eat some of it a bit later.
